V-word had got my film A certificate: Madhur Bhandarkar

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar is glad that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has allowed the team of "Finding Fanny" to use the term "virgin" and has approved it with a UA certificate.

It's something he wasn't allowed in his film "Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji" in 2011.

"Appreciate that Censor Board's allowed Finding Fanny team to use d word VIRGIN. Sadly during DTBHJ the V-word got my film an A certificate," Bhandarkar posted on his Twitter page.

It's a positive sign - "Finding Fanny" director Homi Adajania, readily agrees.

CBFC had earlier asked the film's team to discard a dialogue from the film, where actress Deepika Padukone says, "I’m a virgin".

However, the makers were confused by CBFC's "contradictory action" as the line had been passed earlier in the trailers.

"Finding Fanny" releases Sep 12. Produced by Maddock Films, the film is being presented by Fox Star Studios.

'Acting is rewarding, direction gives wings to creativity'

$

Having donned different roles as an actor, writer and director in his over two-decade-old journey in southern cinema, multi-faceted veteran Ramesh Aravind feels that there's nothing more "rewarding" than an actor's job, but that direction is a "satisfying" creative process.

"I find acting more rewarding. It might not be in terms of monetary benefits, but generally the success you enjoy as an actor is bigger than anything else. I don't think anything can replace the success you derive out of being an actor," Ramesh told IANS in an interview.

"Direction is a creative process. It gives wings to your creativity. It allows you to create a world you might not envision as an actor. A director can make a flower look different on screen, add the colour he likes the most to his creation, and nobody will ask questions," he said.

Those who like to get "creatively high" should direct, said Ramesh, who finds writing as a "very lonely job that needs a lot of patience".

Ramesh, who made his directorial debut with 2005 Kannada blockbuster "Rama Shama Bhama", is currently busy with the post-production work of his upcoming Tamil directorial "Uttama Villain".

Incidentally, both the films feature Kamal Haasan, who has also worked with Ramesh in several memorable movies such as "Sati Leelavathi", "Panchathantiram" and "Mumbai Express".

Kamal is "more than a friend, he's mostly a guide and a mentor," said Ramesh and added: "We bond because we share the same sensibilities on various things in life. It's easier to build relationship with a person when you share same ideologies and tastes."

Soon after "Rama Shama Bhama", Kamal and Ramesh were to "collaborate for a Hindi film, but it never materialised".

"We wanted to do a Tamil film too. But our idea to collaborate never really happened. Last March, Kamal sir asked me to direct 'Uttama Villain'. I stopped everything I was doing in Kannada because I wanted to concentrate on this project. I felt I needed a big leap in my career at this point," he said.

"Uttama Villain" is "extremely different" from Kamal's "Vishwaroopam".

"It has a lot of emotional content. The best part is that it has a very profound message which attracted me to it," he added.

For Tamil film audiences, "Uttama Villain" is a special film as it reunites Ramesh and Kamal with their mentor and filmmaker K. Balachander, who had introduced both of them many years ago.

"Kamal was very keen that we should only cast Balachander for the role because he felt only he could naturally fit in it. When you watch the film, you realise nobody else could do the role besides KB sir," he said.

Kamal plays Balachander's disciple in the film, which also features legendary filmmaker K. Vishwanath in an important role.

"Had we cast someone else, then we would have had to include a few more scenes to establish the master-disciple relationship. We wanted to avoid all that because there are certain advantages and a liberty when you cast certain people together," he added.

Ramesh hopes "Uttama Villain", which is expected to come out in 10 weeks, makes them "proud".

"After wrapping up the film, I sent a message to my crew. I told them that we've made a film we can be proud of, and I'm confident about it," he said.

As a director, Ramesh has made commercially successful ventures, but he feels "the recovery of initial investment in a project is critical. If the film makes more money, it's an added bonus."

On other fronts, Ramesh is currently hosting TV chat show "Weekend with Ramesh" and he enjoys it thoroughly.

"It gives me an opportunity to be myself. I don't have to be any of the characters I play in my films."

S.J. Suryah, who acts and directs, has now donned the hat of a composer for his upcoming Tamil directorial "Isai". He says he spent six months to learn music before composing tunes for the film.

"Learning music was tougher than I anticipated. When A.R. Rahman told me that I can compose tunes for my film, I gathered the confidence to take up the challenge. I spent six months to learn music from scratch," Suryah told IANS.

"I practiced sincerely for about 10 hours every day. I spent more time on learning the guitar and piano. Since I was composing the music, I decided to sing as well. I've crooned the title track of the album. It's come out well and I hope audiences will love it," he said.

The audio of "Isai", which features Suryah in the lead, is expected to be out in a few weeks.

Also starring newcomer Savitri and Sathyaraj, "Isai" is the story of rivalry between two composers.

It's time for Danny Denzongpa's son Rinzing to act on the big screen, but he is not keen to follow in his dad's footsteps and do negative roles. He wants to be the leading man in his Bollywood movies.

Asked if he would like to be like his father, who is known for his villainous roles in films like "Hum", Rinzing said: "No, I want to play the leading actor. It depends on audience, but I would like to go as leading man and not as negative actor."

In the filmdom, Rinzing enjoys a good bonding with his dad's co-star Jackie Shroff's son Tiger, who made his Bollywood debut with "Heropanti".

"I am very close to Tiger...I am working on my body right now and want to be in shape like Tiger. So off late, I have been into that. Besides, when an actor gets launched, definitely there will be criticism. I am learning from Tiger actually."

Rinzing would make his debut next year.

He is also "learning dancing" right now. "Next year most likely I should make my debut, but lets see," he added.

One-film-old Tiger Shroff is sure about one thing, he doesn't want to step into his father's shoes for "Ram Lakhan" remake if at all it's offered to him.

Riding high on the big success of his debut movie "Heropanti", the 24-year-old is happy with what he has got so far.

"No, I don't want to do any of my father's film's remakes. We both are different people and I don't want any sort of comparisons," Tiger told IANS.

"If at all anyone offers me 'Ram Lakhan', I will not do it."

Apparently, Rohit Shetty is planning to remake Subhash Ghai directed "Ram Lakhan", a 1989 blockbuster starring Anil Kapoor, Jackie, Madhuri Dixit and Dimple Kapadia. Shetty is apparently considering various names from the young lot to play the male leads.

Meanwhile, the Shroff youngster is happy to be accepted by the audience in "Heropanti".

"I am happy with the response and fans appreciation. I don't know what I did in 'Heropanti' (Pata nahin aisa kya ukhaad liya tha maine 'Heropanti' mein)... it's the best feeling to be loved and accepted by the audience," said Tiger, who is likely to feature in Sabbir Khan's directorial venture.

If Priyanka Chopra's role in "Mary Kom" as the five-time World boxing champion has changed the definition of "hero", the movie's producers too have a reason to smile as it has raked in Rs.17.25 crore in two days since release.

Based on the life of boxing champion M.C. Mary Kom, the unconventionally made biopic, which released Friday in 1,800 screens in the country, has many high points - Omung Kumar's deft direction, convincing adaptation of real life story, and last but not the least - Priyanka's "wow and convincing" performance.

Although biopics too take creative liberties, Kumar has tried to be as realistic as possible.

All that helped the film earn Rs.17.25 crore in just two days, said a source.

An excited Priyanka took to Twitter to thank fans for the "overwhelming" response to the biopic, which has been panned by some critics.

"Thank you for the incredible response to #MaryKom. I guess this film was such a heart wrenching experience that the love is just overwhelming (sic)," she tweeted Saturday.

Also starring newcomer Darshan Kumar, it is directed by Omung Kumar and co-produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Viacom18 Motion Pictures.

The release was preceded by a world premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival.

The Hindi film fraternity also lauded the film on social networking sites. Here's what celebrities have to say:
