Case against Aamir Khan over nude 'PK' poster

A case was filed in a court in Kanpur Saturday against Aamir Khan and the producer and director of new movie "PK" after its poster showed the Bollywood star in the nude except for a transistor covering his private parts.

In the complaint, lawyer Manoj Dixit accused the actor, producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and director Rajkumar Hirani of promoting nudity and vulgarity.

The film is scheduled for release in December.

The court listed the case for Aug 7 when the contention of the petitioner would be heard and, if needed, the producer, director and actor will be served notice to appear before it.

The petitioner said Aamir Khan has considerable influence on the youth of today and any such act would only tempt youths to emulate him, thereby threatening the social order.

This in turn, he added, would lead to cases of sexual offences.

Many newspapers had printed posters of the forthcoming movie in which Aamir Khan is reportedly playing an alien.

Actress Apara Mehta, known for her role in the TV serial "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi", will soon be seen playing a modern and contemporary grandmother in the forthcoming show "Jamai Raja".

She is playing a "nani" who prays every morning and is hip enough to sport salwar kameez, try nail art and visit a spa every now and then.

Nia Sharma, who plays the female lead Roshni in the show, lovingly calls her 'Sexy'.

Apara says that she has always wanted to do roles that are different, and "Jamai Raja" that has been produced by Ashwini Yardi along with Akshay Kumar under the banner Grazing Goats Pictures, was truly one of them.

"I had always told myself I'll never do a role where I am playing a granny with a chandan ki bindi and a white saree. So, at first, when I heard I was approached to play the role of the heroine Roshni's maternal grandmother, I was not sure if I wanted to do it.

"But when Ashwini (Yardi) told me all about the character being young at heart and someone modern, contemporary and cool, I instantly found the role catchy," she said in a statement.

'Lateef...' makers upset over censor board's objection

The producer and director of “Lateef - The King of Crime”, a film based on the Gujarat mafia of the late 1980s, are upset that the Central Board of Film Certification has objected to their promoting the movie on TV due to a specific dialogue related to Gujarat.

The movie has released but its makers faced trouble in getting their 20-second trailer passed, and they can't promote it on TV due to the objection.

Producer Kewal Krishna said in a statement: "We were geared to run promos on TV during the movie release. We approached the censor board and there was a cut. Then on July 23, we tried again. The order was passed and we received it on July 27. The film was released on Aug 1."

However, they did not get a chance to run promos, causing losses.

"What’s wrong with dialogues 'Yeh Gujarat Hain “and "Lateef maut se nahi darta hai, maut Lateef se darti hai"? The dialogues are part of the movie and censor has no objection over it. The film was passed, why not the promo?”

Director Sharique Minhaj feels that the act “shows narrow mindedness of the board".

"Miss Lovely" fame Ashim Ahluwalia's 2005 film "John & Jane" will be screened at the ongoing Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) here Sunday in the 'India in Flux Living Resistance' category.

The 63rd MIFF, which kicked off July 31, will continue till Aug 17.

Ahluwalia is happy that acea whole new generation of viewers can finally get to see the movie.

"'John & Jane' was my first film, and in a way defines the kind of filmmaking I love. When it was made, we barely had an independent film scene in India and so it couldn't get a proper release," Ahluwalia said in a statement.

"But it is a very contemporary film, mixing documentary and science fiction, and probably too modern when it first came out. It showed in Toronto and Berlin and was the first Indian film ever to be sold to HBO, but few people in India ever got to see it," he added.

"John & Jane" is a reminder, in its thoughtful, energizing and heightened tale of global commerce and personal compromise - all converging on a portrait of the voices of those selling, buying, persuading and resisting via call centres - of a strong and relevant tradition of documentary filmmaking in the country which continues to grow in recent times.

The film will be available for viewing on www.cineoo.com from Aug 15.

Biggest film or best script, no midway for me: Kareena Kapoor

$

"Take the best, leave the rest" seems to be Kareena Kapoor's mantra for choosing films. The actress, who is said to have refused six scripts lately, says she is keen to do a few but fantastic films as there's never a "middle way" for her.

"If the scripts were good, I would have definitely said 'yes'. A few scripts work for some actresses, a few scripts don't work. But, yes, my job is to choose the best script," Kareena told IANS in an interview here.

The 34-year-old, who married actor-producer Saif Ali Khan in 2012, said: "After marriage, I want to do only one or two films at a time. I can't do too many films. That's my personal decision and I want people to respect that.

"Whatever I will chose it would be according to my time frame. It should be worthy enough that I leave my home and go to work. Either it should be the biggest film of the year or it should have the best script. There is no middle way out for me at the moment."

Wouldn't turning down offers affect her personal equation with celebrities?

"I don't think it affects relationships at all. It's (a film is) an actor's choice and one film can't affect a relationship. In fact, if you say 'no' to somebody, there are chances that they will come back. After all, it's a film! If you are not comfortable, it's okay," said the actress, who will now be seen in "Singham Returns".

Kareena, who belongs to the famous Kapoor family of Hindi cinema, started her Bollywood career in 2000 with J.P. Dutta's "Refugee". She made space in the industry with entertainers like "Ajnabee", "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham...", "Chameli", "Aitraaz", "Omkara", "Don", "Jab We Met", "Tashan", "Golmaal Returns", "Kurbaan", "3 Idiots", "Bodyguard", "Ra.One", "Talaash: The Answer Lies Within" and "Satyagraha".

The actress is clear about what she wants.

In fact, on an episode of celebrity chat show "Koffee With Karan", filmmaker Anurag Kashyap advised Kareena: "Don't ask who is in the film; you should ask what is the film." She is taking it seriously.

"I am taking his advice and that's why I am rejecting scripts because I am choosing films on the basis of scripts," Kareena said.

She, however, feels the Hindi film industry suffers from a lack of good scriptwriters.

"People should write good scripts. I definitely feel there is a lack of scriptwriters...a lot of people don't get a chance. Probably, there are good writers who don't get a chance; so I am listening to everybody - from small to big. I am meeting everybody - whoever has a good script," said the actress, who is the daughter of veteran actors Randhir Kapoor and Babita.

Kareena is yet to be a mother, but while there has been a lot of hullabaloo over whether there should be a "no pregnancy" clause for actresses when they sign a contract with Bollywood studios or not, she has a point to make.

She feels if Indian filmmakers are aping the West, they should also include insurance of an actor while drafting the agreement papers.

"I think it's ('no pregnancy' clause is) fine by me. If it's there, it doesn't matter, but I think we try to ape foreign. It's just because in the west they have no pregnancy clause, even we want to do it.

"But in the west, they insure an actor for a million dollars, but here we are not bothered about insuring the actors," said the outspoken actress.

"If they want to put a 'no pregnancy clause' they should insure the actors also," she added.

Filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane, whose last film "Lootera" won critics' hearts, says he feels bad for the movie's lead actress Sonakshi Sinha as she didn't bag awards.

"'Lootera' was a learning experience for me. The film had recovered its money, but it had mixed response. As far as awards are concerned, I am feeling bad for Sonakshi as her performance was outstanding and she deserved an award for it. However, the nominations were decided by the jury members," said Motwane.

"Lootera", set in the era of the 1950s with a rustic feel to it, was released last year and also featured Ranveer Singh.

Motwane is now busy with his next project "Bhavesh Joshi" and said: "We will start shooting for 'Bhavesh Joshi' from December and we haven't finalised the leading lady yet while Sidharth Malhotra will play the lead who is working really hard for the project."

Rohit Shetty, known for directing commercial films like "Chennai Express" and "Golmaal" series, says he keeps tab on the new breed of filmmakers.

"I want to know what the new generation is making and which is being appreciated by the audience. I keep a tab on new filmmakers and they are doing a great job. I recently watched '2 States' on DVD," said Shetty, who is currently busy promoting "Singham Returns".

He says Kareena has an important role in the film that also stars Ajay Devgn.

"Though 'Singham' is about Ajay; Kareena is also playing a key role in the film. It's not that we have roped her for five songs and all. She has an equally important role in the film," said the director.

Ten popular Bollywood songs on friendship

$

Bollywood numbers have been glorifying relationships for long and friendship is one of them. From "Yeh dosti hum nahin todenge" to "Imli ka boota", the songs from Hindi movies are still loved by many and played over and over again by friends of different age groups.

On Friendship Day Sunday, here's a list of popular friendship songs:

1. "Yeh dosti hum nahin todenge": The filmy anthem for friendship is from "Sholay" and has been sung by Kishore Kumar and Manna Dey. The iconic friendship song was picturised on megastar Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra.

2. "Tere jaisa yaar kahan, kahan aisa yaaraana": Another iconic friendship song filmed on Big B and Amjad Khan in the film "Yaraana". The fact that the two of them were close friends in real life really helped make this Rajesh Roshan composition come alive.

3. "Diye jalte hain": The entire song was lip-synced by Rajesh Khanna in Hrishikesh Mukherjee's "Namak Haraam".

4. "Bane chahe dushman zamana hamara": Kishore Kumar and Mohammad Rafi in one of their last collaborative songs in Raj Khosla's "Dostana". Rafi passed away soon after the recording of this song. The two were barely cordial to one another and yet able to imbue so much warmth and camaraderie in this Laxmikant-Pyarelal composition.

5. "Yaari hai imaan mera yaar meri zindagi": Yet one more ode to friendship, the song was picturised on Pran. In "Zanjeer", Big B's stern no-nonsense character allowed no musical expression of love (to Jaya Bachchan) or friendship (to Pran).

6. "Meri dosti mera pyar": Filmed on the then-unknown Sudhir Kumar in the 1964 film "Dosti", the song written by Majrooh Sultanpuri has become an anthem for friendship that lingers in the jukebox of the mind to this day.

7. "Saat ajoobe is duniya mein": It is picturised on Dharmendra and Jeetendra. Sung by Mohammad Rafi and Mukesh for the film "Dharam Veer", the lyrics of the song are like - "Tode se bhi toote na yeh dharam-veer ki jodi".

8. "Imli ka boota": A nursery-rhyme like friendship song in Subhash Ghai's "Saudagar" filmed on the two veteran actors Raj Kumar and Dilip Kumar. The number has a certain childlike innocence and unspoilt charm about it.

9. "Ek rasta do rahi, ek chor ek sipahi": When Amitabh and Dharmendra reprised their buddy talks from "Sholay" in "Ram Balram", the result was this zingy friendship song sung by Mohammad Rafi and Kishore Kumar.

10. "Doston mein koi baat chal jaati": A rare song that "dares" to explore the dark side of male bonding. When a deep friendship is torn apart what happens to the buddy-buddy feelings? Shashi Kapoor oozes cynicism as he hurls accusations at Rajesh Khanna in this song from Raj Khosla's "Prem Kahani".

The hugely-popular "Comedy Nights With Kapil" has completed 100 episodes and the show’s host-producer Kapil Sharma says that initially he was asked to do only 26 episodes.

The comedy show, which went on air in June 2013 on Colors, gives a distinctive take on the everyday life of a common man as the show explores the story of every household and how the show’s common man played by Kapil is affected by the simplest issues in life around him.

“The initial contract was of 26 episodes. When the shooting started, the channel thought of extending it to 36. When I shot two to three episodes, they told me let’s make it 50. After it went on air and seeing the response, they said let’s make it 100 and after 10 episodes, they told me to do as many as high up,” Kapil told reporters here in a group interaction during the launch of “Kaun Banega Crorepati 8”.

The show, which also featured Bollywood celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar and Karisma Kapoor, consists of actors like Sumona Chakravarti, Ali Asgar and Upasana Singh.

Comedian Sunil Grover, who quit the show last year, has again joined back and Kapil is happy. He added: “When you work with good artists, it’s good.”

Kapil is delighted with the positive response for his show, but he would like to act in movies too.

“People do 250 films, still nobody knows their name. I am fortunate that people know me and this is all because of the show. As an artist, I would like to grow, so I am trying to balance the show and my movie assignments,” said Kapil, who was slated to make his Bollywood debut with Yash Raj Films'"Bank Chor" but is now out of the project.

The show has been lauded by celebrities like Lata Mangeshkar, Amitabh Bachchan and Sonakshi Sinha.

On Friendship Day Sunday, Bollywood celebrities like Bipasha Basu, Parineeti Chopra and Ayushmann Khurrana talk about their best friends from the industry, school and family.

Here's what Bollywood stars have to say about their friends:

Tiger Shroff: My best friends are my parents. There's nothing I hide from them. I tell them everything.

Parineeti Chopra: My brother Sahaj is my closest friend. I speak to him about everything. He's the coolest guy and the person I love the most.

Ayushmann Khurrana: Rochak Kohli is my closest friend. We share a terrific creative rapport since our school days. We used to bunk classes and compose songs together. He is special because he is a pure-hearted human being, straightforward and talented and he encourages our juniors from college to do well in the entertainment industry. This Friendship Day, I want to tell Rochak he is very special.

Kriti Sanon: My sister Nupur is my closest friend. Sometimes she is like my mother talking wisely and sensibly and giving gyan (knowledge). At other times, she becomes my kid sister cajoling me to re-charge her phone balance. I can talk my heart out to my sister.

Bipasha Basu: Suzan Dadhich and Rocky S are my best friends. Suzan lives in Philadelphia after her marriage. We speak very little. But when we do re-connect we do so effortlessly, as if we had never been away from one another. It's a soul connection. The three of us, Suzan, Rocky and I, have bonded through thick and thin. It's the most unconditional and beautiful friendship. No expectations, no give and take. Just simple friendship love and fun always.

Ali Fazal: My closest friend is this street cat called Cookie. It walks around Worli in some kind of cat garters. I guess it's a pet gone astray. It seemed to have a perpetual smile on its face. I've seen my best friend twice in seven years. I have other best friends. But I hardly figure in their lives. So, I'd rather not embarrass myself and them by talking about them.

Gauahar Khan: My best friend is Preeti Simoes. She loves me unconditionally. Preeti is very childlike. But she is capable of giving me the best possible advice whenever I need it. I love her like my own sister.

Armaan Jain: My youger brother Aadar is my closest friend. We share everything and love each other unconditionally. We don't need to tell one another when we need something. We just know it instinctively.

Kiara Advani: My mother is my best friend. She's the rock-solid presence in my life. She is my late-night green-tea buddy, my first fan and my most honest critic. She is the first one to call me if I am in trouble. She is my one-stop support system.

Kalki Koechlin: My best friend is Kalliroi Tziafeta. She's special because she's always got some wise words to impart. If necessary, I can wake her up at 3 a.m.

Kapil Sharma: My closest friend is Dinesh. We grew up together in Amritsar. And now, he accompanies me everywhere. I wouldn't know what to do without him. We share a common passion for music. In fact, he plays drums in the band that you see on 'Comedy Nights With Kapil'.

Sushant Singh Rajput: Mahesh Shetty is my best friend. There is no pretence about him. He doesn't judge me and he has known me since I started my career. He has always been the same supportive self. I trust his judgement blindly.

Virr Das: My two best friends are Sahil and Nikhil. We've known each other for over 15 years. I am not too sure about what makes them special. But they seem to make me laugh, and that's not easy to do.

Akshay Kumar is not known to fraternize with his co-stars beyond the sets and locations, but the Bollywood star has made an exception for his furry friend from the movie "Entertainment".

As one of Akshay's most favourite co-stars Katrina Kaif once said: “He is a lot like me. We are both very friendly on the sets. But after pack-up, we like to head straight home.”

That’s no longer true. On the sets of "Entertainment", Akshay found a new buddy.

Speaking fondly of the doggie, Akshay said: “His name in the film is 'Entertainment' and he and I will be buddies for life.”

The two bonded while shooting for their film together.

“I made sure he didn’t just feel like a dog being made to do tricks for treats. I would spend a lot of time off-camera playing with him. As soon as he accepted it, we were pals and not just co-stars.

"He’d let me sleep on his belly at break times, which was the most blissful feeling in the world," Akshay said.

The two buddies also got sporty on the sets.

“He loved it when I played ball with him, as his attention toy was a tennis ball, which I carried everywhere with me. He’s a beautiful dog,” said Akshay, who recommends a canine's presence in every household.

“From the bottom of my heart, I feel every gentle kid should have a dog. There is no companionship quite like it,” he added.

Even before befriending his canine co-star Akshay was a dogs person.

“My homes are full of dogs, and that’s been the case for years! I have two German Shepherds named Oaky and Clio in my Mumbai home, and a Golden Labrador who looks after my little Portuguese Villa in Goa.

"Even at my mom's house, who lives just above me, we have a little funny crossed-eyed Beagle that is my niece’s pet. She adores him to bits," said the actor.

To Akshay, canines are the most dependable creatures.

“For me, dogs are where the heart is, at home, looking after your family while you can’t.”

Nothing sustains forever: Kailash Kher on Honey Singh

$

Yo Yo Honey Singh's rap songs are a rage, but people have also criticised them for their crass lyrics. Playback singer and composer Kailash Kher feels it's all a phase as every place has “good and bad things” and “Hindi music industry has quality content too”.

Asked about his reaction to Honey Singh's popularity amongst youth, Kher told IANS: “It's no big deal, it is a phase, it will also pass on. What happens is we make too many opinions and judgments about things. Nothing survives and nothing sustains forever except love and purity.

“Today we are in one phase, tomorrow we will be in another. Whatever you are marketing or writing about too much, would also reflect in creating the phase. People are liking and disliking everything and anything.

"There are good and bad things today. If the type of music you are naming is being loved, then rest of the musicians should be at home and should be unemployed. But everyone is busy - so in a way (all kinds of) people are there. Everyone has a share of audience and a share of receptiveness."

Honey Singh's chartbusters include "Party all night" and "Lungi dance" and now he has shot with actors Kareena Kapoor Khan and Ajay Devgn for the song "Aata majhi satakli" in the forthcoming film "Singham Returns".

Kher says “there are good and bad things in every area” and that “we have quality content also”.

“If we don’t have quality then definitely we won’t survive. Nature has its own course of balance and you cannot do anything extreme. The moment you do something extreme, it balances on its own. So if you have bad things in name of creativity you will also have good things to balance it out,” said Kher, whose music style is influenced by Indian folk music.

He rose to fame with his superhot track “Allah ke bande”, and has grown to sing in 18 languages for Indian films, and in over 300 songs for Bollywood.

His famous tracks includes “Teri deewani”, “Tu jaane na - unplugged” from the film “Ajab Prem ki Ghazab Kahani”.

The singer recently appeared as a guest on MTV Indies show “The Ride”. It's a quirky chat-show hosted by Indie personality Rishu Singh who will, every week, invite Indie celebrities from various fields and discuss their personal interests, passions, their take on today’s music, family, friends and a lot more.
