"Watched the Hindi remake of 'Kick'. It definitely does not do justice to our original movie or to Salman. 'Kick' would have been the biggest movie ever for Salman if the makers understood the spirit of 'Kick'," Surender posted on his Facebook page.

Produced and directed by Sajid Nadiadwala, "Kick" also features Jacqueline Fernandez, Randeep Hooda, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Mithun Chakraborty and Saurabh Shukla in important roles.

Two hours of grand entertainment from HIV-positive children

$

Some 50 HIV-positive children danced to a medley of Bollywood songs through the ages and staged an impressive play to a packed auditorium here over the weekend, as their adopted home, non-profit Rays Aasha Ki Ek Kiran, celebrated its annual day.

The 45-minute satirical play, entitled "Muhammad Bhai ki Jootiyan" (Brother Muhammad's shoes), sought to showcase how Indians may come from different states and speak different languages and dialects, but their cultural bonding and ethos remain the same.

The children's dance sequences to a medley of film songs depicted how Bollywood music and its lyrics have changed during the past seven-eight decades, not to mention how the stars have rendered these numbers in their own unique styles.

The guests comprised Who's Who of Jaipur including D.R. Mehta, the former chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and founder of the non-profit that fits "Jaipur Foot" or artificial limbs for the needy people for free.

The guest list also included Rays' chief patron Diya Kumari, a member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from Sawai Madhopur and a member of the erstwhile Japipur royal family, city Mayor Jyoti Khandelwal and specialist doctors who tend to the children.

"We started four journey four years ago with just four children. Today we have 50. By 2015, we are aiming for 75," said Captain (retired) Gurinder Virk who left a lucrative job with Tata Consultancy Services to start Rays.

"We run our two shelters like a proper home for these children. With contributions from like-minded people, we take care of everything -- food, clothing, proper medication that is very important, their education and even entertainment," Virk told IANS.

"What is unique about our home is: It is also managed by some HIV-positive women. They sort of become 'mothers' to similarly-affected children. So in our project the care-givers and the care-takers have a strong bonding," said Rashmi Kuchhal, secretary, whom the children address as mother.

During the event, the organisers, the speakers and the presentations were focused on a key aspect about HIV-AIDS: The lack of awareness and the myths around it due to which innocent children -- who are not responsible for getting inflicted -- suffer the most.

Evidence, they said, shows that HIV can'r spread from touch, tears, sweat or saliva. One also cannot catch it by breathing the same air as someone who is positive, using the same toilets, hugging, kissing, shaking hands or sharing eating utensils.

In this regard, Rays encourages the children to express themselves through plays and also organises other events like bike rallies to mark various occasions such as World AIDS Day.

Last year, a bike rally was organised on World AIDS Day that was led by "Ek Tha Tiger" director Kabir Khan to spread awareness and expressed solidarity with the HIV-positive fraternity.

Kareena Kapoor and Salman Khan's next "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" is about a Brahmin girl and Muslim boy, but the former says that it has no correlation with her personal life.

"The film is going on floors in October. It's a story of a Muslim guy and Brahmin girl. It's got nothing do with my personal life, but it's a beautiful human story," Kareena, who is married to Saif Ali Khan, told IANS.

"I think it will be Salman's career's best film. It will have Salman in a completely different light altogether and it's a very special film.

"It's special because Salman is producing himself and I am honoured I am with him. I am lucky to work with all the Khans in all their home productions," added the actress who was last seen in damp squib "Gori Tere Pyaar Mein".

Kabir Khan will wield the megaphone for "Bajrangi Bhaijaan". To be made under Salman Khan Ventures, it will be released on Eid next year.

I'll never work for free: Emraan Hashmi

$

0

Emraan Hashmi, who is looking forward to his next "Raja Natwarlal", seems to have a practical approach towards his acting job. He is not willing to slog for free, but at the same time he clarifies money is not the sole purpose behind accepting a project.

"Money is always at the heart of the thing, I won't do a film for free. Money is important, but money is not the sole purpose," Emraan told IANS.

In his over a decade of acting journey, he had hits like "Murder", "Raaz" and "Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai" and misses such as "Footpath", "Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji" and "Ghanchakkar".

He feels that "if you do a film for money, it will never work because there are films where I get double the money but I don't end up doing it..."

This is so because the actor prefers good "script" and feels his movie should be total "paisa vasool".

"So it's not all about money. Money is important but to a certain point. You need to make good films and keep the audience happy. If the audience won't go out clapping after watching 'Raja Natwarlal', it would be cheating," said Emraan.

So far, the actor attempted various genres, however, his experiment with comedy thriller "Ghanchakkar" failed. He admits his fans want to see him in massy movies with a dollop of sex.

He said: "They do and that's why I am giving them 'Raja Natwarlal'. They were obviously disappointed (with 'Ghanchakkar'), but it was something that I had to do. But I will bring something to 'Raja Natwarlal' after 'Ghanchakkar' and you will see that on the screen."

"But if I do only films like 'Raja Natwarlal', I won't grow as an actor. So, creatively I need to grow and do something else that helps me grow as an actor."

In "Raja Natwarlal" Emraan is working with filmmaker Kunal Deshmukh for the fourth time, and says they enjoy a good camaraderie on the sets.

"This is my fourth film with him, we both understand each other, creatively he understands how I want things and the same goes with me - I know how he will implement things," Emraan said and added that there are "unspoken things on the film set".

"He knows when I need my space for my character and I know when he is unsure about something."

Deshmukh had three releases as a director - "Jannat", "Jannat 2" and "Tum Mile" - and Emraan played the male lead in all of them.

Produced by UTV Motion Pictures, "Raja Natwarlal" also features Paresh Rawal and Kay Kay Menon. It will hit the theatres Aug 29.

Pick comfortable footwear for monsoon season

Keep leather shoes away from your sight, focus on grip and go for easy to maintain footwear when it is raining cats and dogs.

Payal Bathija, COO, Heel & Buckle Pvt. Ltd., says that while buying footwear for the monsoon season, you need to make sure that your footwear selection has a good grip.

“It is important that your feet are held in place so that you don’t slip if your shoes get wet,” she told IANS.

She also suggests to avoid leather footwear as much as possible as it tends to spoil if your shoes get wet.

“Leather has a tendency to support the growth of fungus and bacteria when wet, making it an uncomfortable choice for monsoon,” she added.

Bathija recommends five types of footwear for women.

“A pair of flip flops as they are easy to maintain and dry easily. It is important to pick gladiators or low heels with an ankle strap detail to ensure that your foot has the required grip to brave the messy puddles and slippery pavements,” she said.

“Sometimes, for corporate dressing or formal occasions, a pair of neutral closed shoes is an absolute requirement. In such a scenario, having a pair of closed shoes in canvas or PVC makes sure that your feet are protected from the rain,” she added.
