Don't like to run after directors: Nushrat Bharucha

After winning hearts with films such as "Pyaar Ka Punchnama" and "Akaash Vani", actress Nushrat Bharucha, who is all set for the release of her Tamil debut "Valeba Raja", says she always likes to work with directors who want to work with her.

"I don't like running after directors for films. I happened to sign 'Valeba Raja' because the director saw his character in me. He felt that I was part of his vision. I like to work with such directors who want to work with me," Nushrat told IANS.

Directed by Sai Gokul Ramnath, "Valeba Raja" also features Sethu, Vishakha Singh and Santhanam in lead roles.

Nushrat said it was Vishakha who recommended her name for the film.

"Vishakha and I are good friends. She suggested my name to the director and Gokul called me because he was also convinced after watching 'Pyaar Ka Punchnama'. When Gokul narrated the script, what I really liked is that he wanted someone like me for the character," she said.

"I hardly had any time to even think it through because he wanted me to shoot in a week's time. It was a new language and I hardly had time to prepare. But it worked for both of us because the character I play is in sync with my screen persona. Moreover, since Vishakha was already part of the film, I was at ease," she added.

"Valeba Raja" is a light-hearted comedy and Nushrat says her director "has a nice grip of what the youth enjoys".

"There's nothing serious, social or too intelligent about the film. It's a fun film and audiences will enjoy it more because they can easily relate with it. I play a character that's like one edge of the film. My character breaks the cliches associated with a south Indian girl," she said.

Having worked in Bollywood romantic films, Nushrat feels that southern films in the same genre have the local flavour.

"I feel romantic films in south have a local flavour, which I feel people in Bollywood won't even understand. Bollywood either makes intelligent or slapstick comedies, there's nothing in between that's funnier. The normalcy of comedy is missing in Hindi romantic films," said Nushrat.

Meanwhile, the actress is currently shooting for Hindi film "Meerutiya Gangsters", which is being directed by Zeeshan Quadri, writer of "Gangs of Wasseypur".

Lata Mangeshkar cuts an album for Jain community

Lata Mangeshkar has recorded an album of bhajans and chants for the Jain community and she got herself a linguistic teacher to guide her through all the traditional devotional chants.

Lata says doing album was a special challenge.

"Somewhere they felt that their religious teachings and mantras have so far not been properly articulated. I am happy and relieved that they think my rendition does justice to their sacred teachings," she said.

The process was time-taking but for the 84-year-old it is never too late to learn.

"It wasn't easy, I can tell you that. But getting the pronunciation and diction absolutely right has always been important for me. Early in my career, I had got myself Sanskrit and Urdu teachers who would come to my recordings at studios to sit and teach me the languages during the breaks," Lata said.

"Years later when I recorded the 'Bhagavad Gita' for my brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar, I hired another Sanskrit teacher to make sure that I got the nuances correct," she added.

Lata feels it's very important to be 100 percent correct in articulating religious and spiritual thoughts.

"Centuries of thoughts go into these teachings. One can't be careless with religious sentiments. I am happy to learn languages through my singing and to polish up my diction. Every artiste remains a student all her life. I am no exception," she said.

The trailer of Bollywood film "Hate Story 2" indicates that it is an erotic thriller a la the first film. But lead actor Jay Bhanushali says the erotic scenes are restricted to just one song, and that there's a lot more to the film than bold scenes.

"Frankly speaking, 'Hate Story 2' is not at all related to the first film. That was an erotic thriller, but this is a thriller. The bold scenes are only in one song and after the song, the whole film runs on a story," the 29-year-old said here in an interview.

"There are ten good things about the film and the tenth thing is the bold scenes. There are nine other things that you will see after (the film releases) July 18 and I'm sure people are going to talk about the story and acting more than the bold scenes," he added.

The sensual song "Aaj phir tum pe pyaar" seems to have given an image makeover to Jay, and he's happy about it.

"Earlier people used to call me cute and mama's boy but now they call me hot and sexy and all those taglines. Every girl is coming to me and complimenting me on 'Aaj phir tum pe pyaar'," he said.

"Hate Story 2", directed by Vivek Agnihotri, stars Surveen Chawla with Jay.

After teaming up with the likes of Karan Johar and Imtiaz Ali, Alia Bhatt wants to work with Rohit Shetty, known for churning out hit potboilers such as "Singham" and "Chennai Express".

After making a start with out and out commercial film "Student of The Year", Alia turned to Ali and Abhishek Verman for "Highway" and "2 States" respectively and both the films gave her ample opportunity to prove her versatility.

The roles in both the films were as different as chalk and cheese and the 21-year-old passed with flying colours, thanks to her spontaneity, naturalness and ease in front of the camera.

Talking about the choices she makes, Alia said: "I just don't want to be a love interest in a film, I should have that equal effect. I don't want to be just standing over there in one frame I can't do that. That does not mean I don't want to do commercial films."

While pursuing meaty roles, she is equally interested in typical commercial cinema.

"I want to do all the commercial films. I want to work with Rohit Shetty... (Okay with) full comedy and action, but a good role," Alia told reporters in a group interview.

Alia watches all the films of her competitors.

"Yes, I do watch all the films of my competitors, but not because I am competing with them. I like watching films. I am a moviegoer, so I make it a point to watch all the films."

Her contemporaries and competitors are Parineeti Chopra and Shraddha Kapoor.

After three hits, Alia is busy promoting "Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania" (HSKD).

"HSKD is an out and out love story. The last love story was 'Jab We Met'. There has been many romantic-comedy, but not a typical love story whereas 'HSDK' is all an all love story and in a modern way fits in 2014 idea of love rather than what was 15 years ago."

Directed by Shashank Khaitan, "Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania" has Alia romancing Varun Dhawan. It hits the screens July 11.

If men dressing in woman's garb wasn't a trend enough already in Bollywood, here's Akshay Kumar trying out something new - he lip-syncs to a female voice for the song "Johnny Johnny" for "It's Entertainment".

The song is the first to be released from the album of the forthcoming film "It's Entertainment", which marks the directorial debut of writers Farhad-Sajid.

The track, based on a very popular nursery rhyme, has Akshay lip-synching to a female’s voice in a fun avatar. He will be seen singing some hilarious lines like "Maine pe nahiii" and "Haanji main peela di gayi".

The lines are extremely catchy and the grooving music has taken the song to a different level.

On the decision to make playback singer Priya sing for Akshay, the director duo said: “Our song is light-hearted, in high spirits and everyone is in a party mood. In a small subtle way, we are showing our support for women empowerment...the lines are matching very well with Akshay’s attire and the mood of the song."

Superstar Salman Khan, who has sung the song "Hangover" for his film "Kick", says he is a bad singer but that doesn't stop him from singing.

"I sing badly but I can sing just about anytime. I don't care about how I sing... I sing, I don't care," the 47-year-old said here Sunday in an interview.

"But to be suddenly put in a spot and being told to sing, then I get hesitant. If I am singing on my own then I am fine," he added.

As much as he is enjoying the curiosity created by "Hangover", Salman is also quite surprised to see the hype around him singing a song for a film.

"I have sang before, in 'Hello Brother' and 'Wanted' also, the 'Most Wanted' title track was sung by me. I don't understand why is all this happening because I have sung earlier," Salman said.

"So all this hype is making me feel like I am singing for the first time. I have just sung a bit better than those two times," he added.

"Hangover" has been composed by Himesh Reshammiya.
