The Krissh 3 trailer is breaking records of two Hollywood superhero movies which released last year - Thor and Avengers. While the Hollywood biggies garnered 4 and 6 million views, Krissh 3 broke all records by getting 12 million views in just 10 days.

Hrithik Roshan could not be happier. “It is a glimpse of how much lies beyond the barriers of the conventional. It’s an effort to raise the bar. And people are curious as it is the first complete Indian high budget VFX-heavy superhero movie. I guess these could justify the incredible response to the first promo. The number now is around 12.8 million,” he says.

Director Rakesh Roshan adds that it is a ‘super feat’. He says, “I am humbled at this overwhelming response. It is only because of the ‘super’ brand called Krrish. I’m showing them Krrish again after seven years. I thought people would have forgotten but they want to see it again! I knew people would like the trailer but not to this extent. This one was the toughest to make as with Krrish 3, I went to a completely new genre and also learnt new things.”

Ketan Mehta's much delayed "Rang Rasiya", which has been ready since 2008, is expected to come out by the end of the year.

"It was stuck for three years in some kind of a dispute...but now it will come out by the end of the year," Mehta, who has just completed "Majhi - The Mountain Man", told IANS.

He denied reprots that the film, a tribute to 19th century painter Raja Ravi Varma, was delayed due to the bold scenes picturised on the lead pair - Randeep Hooda and Nandana Sen.

"It was not because of the bold scenes. The film was passed by the censor board some three years ago. There were legal disputes, which were holding it back. Those have been lifted," he said.

Things are not easy when a film's release is halted for so long, he said.

"It is very tough. A lot of people have put their time, energy and passion into the film. But now 'Rang Rasiya' will see the light of the day," he said.

Meanwhile, the director is looking forward to the release of "Manjhi - The Mountain Man", which stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte.

Tamil Nadu's Naam Tamizar and MDMK may have sought a ban on John Abraham-starrer political-thriller "Madras Cafe", but the actor-producer believes in the right of freedom of speech, and says he won't fall prey to "bullying tactics".

"Madras Cafe", said to be fictional story based on real events that took place during Sri Lankan civil war, is only John's second production after the highly appreciated "Vicky Donor". Its vein is much different.

"People say I am a new producer, just one-film old... But I believe somebody should bring something different. Somebody should take a stand and take up a subject like this ('Madras Cafe' and project it. These bullying tactics of groups and parties... I do not accept it," John said at a press conference here Monday.

He said: "We will make such films in future aswell, and I don't see any problems with such films."

Describing the film as gritty and realistic, John also said that since the Central Board of Film Certificaton has granted the movie a U/A certificate, there must not be a problem.

"I am allowed to exercise freedom of speech as itis a democratic country," said the actor, who was flanked by the film's director, Shoojit Sircar, and actresses Nargis Fakhri and newcomer Raashi Khanna.

He even said that there was never an intention to promote "Madras Cafe" via the medium of controversy.

"It is an honest and credible film, and we hope it runs on word of mouth," said John.

The movie releases Aug 23.

New judge to conduct Salman Khan trial

Bollywood actor Salman Khan's trial in the 2002 hit-and-run case was transferred to a new sessions court of Justice D.W. Deshpande here Monday.

When the matter came up for hearing before the new judge, he posted it for hearing Sep 5 as the case papers reached him only two days ago.

A new public prosecutor has also to be appointed for the trial.

Salman has been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder for killing one person and injuring four others by rash and negligent driving.

Another sessions judge U.B. Hejib July 24 had framed charge under Indian Penal Code Sec. 304(2), of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, against Salman, which attracts a 10-year jail term.

Besides, the actor has been charged under other sections of the IPC and provisions of Bombay Prohibition Act and Motor Vehicles Act. However, he has pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Unlike the previous occasion, the actor was not present in the court as he was granted exemption from personal appearance for two months as he had to go abroad on film shooting commitments.

On Sep 28, 2002, a Land Cruiser allegedly driven by Salman, ran over a group of pavement dwellers in suburban Bandra, killing one and injuring four others .

A magistrate court had held that he could be tried under the offence of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which was later upheld by the session court June 24 this year.

The magistrate court had tried him for a lesser offence IPC Section 304 (A) for causing death by negligence which could attract a maximum sentence of two years.

'Zanjeer' music average, could have been better (IANS Music Review)

Film: "Zanjeer"; Composer: Chirantan Bhatt; Singers: Mika Singh, Talia Bentson, Mamta Sharma, Meet Bros Anjjan, Wajhi, Palak Muchhal, Sukhwinder Singh, Shabab Sabri, Shweta Pandit, and Shreya Ghoshal; Ratings: ***

Director Apoorva Lakhia's movie "Zanjeer", a remake of the 1973 movie of the same name, has seven tracks. While retaining the original flavour of the plot, composer Chirantan Bhatt has given it a contemporary twist.

The album begins with stylish Mika Singh number "Mumabi ke hero". This can become the anthem of Mumbai Police as it portrays them in a most heroic way. Amitabh Bachchan's dialogues from the original add nostalgia. Singer Talia Bentson kicks in with a rap and a British accent but does not really impress. It can be summed up as a cool track.

When will singer Mamta Sharma stop singing item numbers? This is the first thought that comes to mind when the song "Pinky" starts, but nonetheless, it is a full entertainer like all her other numbers. The song with a Marathi flavour scores well in the genre.

Wajhi sings "Lamha tera mera". He is joined by Palak Muchchal, whose voice is beautiful. It gradually slows down but the moment you start enjoying it, the beats become faster. It's an excellent track gone awry.

The qawali has its own charm and "Kochey pathan" reveals that perfectly. Singer Sukhwinder Singh's voice is apt for the song. It reminds you of an authentic qawali session. The singers' voice easily reflect the passion of friends. It might not be on a par with "Yaari hai imaan" from the original, but it entertains.

The next track, "Kaatilana", is interesting. Shweta Pandits's voice is sensuous and beautiful. Surprisingly, this is a melodious and energetic number.

"Shakila banoo" is a character-driven track. Shreya Goshal croons the song, but there is nothing to write home about.

The soundtrack of "Zanjeer" is okay, but it could have been grand. "Kochey pathan" stands out.

Nandamuri Balakrishna has roped in top technicians such as art director Anand Sai and cinematographer Ram Prasad to make his daughter Nandamuri Tejaswini's marriage, set to take place here Wednesday, an affair to remember.

Tejaswini will enter wedlock with Sri Bharat at a ceremony to be held here at Hitex, Madhapur.

"Balakrishna sir was very particular about everything and, therefore, he roped in the best from the industry. Art director Anand Sai will take care of constructing and decorating the mandap for the wedding, while cinematographer Ram Prasad will take care of the lighting at the wedding and reception party," a source close to Balakrishna told IANS.

Anand Sai, who has worked as art director in Telugu films such as "Brindavanam" and "Rachcha", has previously designed the mandap for the wedding ceremonies of Ram Charan Teja, Allu Arjun and even Junior NTR.

Anand is said to have designed a mandap that will be suspended in the air.

"The mandap will be suspended in the air with the help of a 120-foot crane. The width of the mandap will be 140 feet and we have taken all safety measure to ensure it bears good weight," Anand Sai told IANS.

Anand adds that Balakrishna and his wife loved the initial sketch of the mandap.

"It's a first-of-its-kind design that we have implemented. Balakrishna sir and his wife loved the sketch when I initially showed them and they instantly said 'yes'. As many as 350 people have been working on the mandap for over a month," he added.

Cinematographer Ram Prasad, known for films such "Yevadu" and "Munna", has been hired to ensure that there is no problem with the lighting.

"Natural light might not be at its best in the morning and, therefore, Balakrishna sir wanted Ram Prasad to take care of the lighting for the wedding. Flowers for decoration have been imported from Bangkok," added the source.

Balakrishna has sent an open invite for all his fans to attend the wedding and bless the couple.

"Since we are expecting fans in thousands, we have requested for tight security. As many as 500 police personnel will be deployed on the job since early morning on Wednesday. There will be two separate entries into the wedding hall, one for the fans and the other for all important dignitaries," he said.

Special invitations have been sent to friends in the industry. Some of the bigwigs of the industry such as Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan and even Kamal Haasan are expected to be present.

Sri Bharat is the grandson of M.V.V.S Murthy, founder of the Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM). His parents, Pattabhi Ramarao and Srimani recently threw a cocktail party to kickstart the pre-wedding celebrations.

While Tejaswini holds a degree in engineering, her soon-to-be husband holds a Masters degree from the US.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who recently visited the city, is also expected to attend the wedding after Balakrishna extended a personal invitation to him.

Actress Priyamani learnt sword-fighting, archery and even acrobatics for her upcoming Telugu social period drama "Chandi", and its director V. Samudra can't stop lauding her dedication towards mastering the action skills.

"She (Priyamani) was expected to learn archery and sword-fighting for her role. I was stunned to know that she is a very quick learner. All that it took her to shoot arrows was two hours of training with a professional," Samudra told IANS.

"It's not just dancing and romancing for actresses, but sometimes it's more than that. At times, it means to wield the sword or even doing a back flip for an action sequence. Priyamani's role is a mixture of all that and audiences will love her for that," he added.

Priyamani is playing an avenging angel in the film, which also features R. Sarath Kumar, Nagendra Babu, Ashish Vidyarthi, Posani Krishna Murali and M.S. Narayana.

"We are busy wrapping up the talkie portion. If all goes well, then we are likely to release it by September-end," he added.

The film also features veteran actor Krishnam Raju in an important role.

"He plays the role of a king. It will be a powerful role along the lines of roles that he did in films such as 'Bobbli Brahmanna' and 'Thandra Paparayudu'," said Samudra.

'Madras Cafe' not based on Rajiv Gandhi: Shoojit Sircar

$

0

Director Shoojit Sircar concedes that his movie "Madras Cafe", based on the Sri Lankan civil war, may have certain scenes resembling events related to Rajiv Gandhi's assassination, but he clarifies that the film's story is not a biopic on the former prime minister.

At a press conference here Monday, Sircar and the film's producer John Abraham, who also plays the lead actor in the movie, were asked if permission was sought from the Congress party to essay an important sequence in "Madras Cafe" on lines similar to the Rajiv Gandhi assassination.

Sircar said: "This is not a biopic on him, this is not a story based on him. Yes, you can say that there is a similarity to that incident. There is a similarity in the facial structure (of the actor who plays the said role)."

Rajiv Gandhi, whose birth anniversary falls Tuesday, died when an LTTE suicide bomber detonated a bomb at an election rally in May 1991. A similar incident has been showcased in the film's trailer.

However, the director clarified, "We have taken that incident which we read in the paper. Rest, whatever is around it, has been fictionalised in the scripting. But somewhere you may find some historical references in the fictionalised bit too.

"Nobody knows what had (actually) happened - everyone has an idea that an incident had happened. So (what we have shown is that) when a hit squad plans such an incident, how do they do it... and that is what we have fictionalised in the movie," added Sircar.

"Madras Cafe", releasing Aug 23, is already facing the ire of Tamil activist groups Naam Tamizhar and MDMK. The members have sought a ban on the film contending that it portrays LTTE cadres as terrorists.

Sircar, who invested seven years into researching the project, says it was important for the "Madras Cafe" team to deal with the issue in the movie with sensitivity.

But, he says, whatever side he may have taken in the movie, what it finally goes to show is "human loss".

"It shows that there are so many civilians who just lost their life, and others lead a displaced life," he said.
