Actor Ram Kapoor's film and TV career is going great guns -- and he credits his wife Gautami for being supportive and for taking great care of their two children while he's busy.

Gautami was an active actress too, but she has slowed down on her professional work.

"She (Gautami) is in the same field so she understands everything and she never hassles me whenever I am working. She understands my work. If there are important school functions, which I have had to miss, she understands and supports me. I don't have to worry about my kids because she takes care of it wonderfully," Ram said.

Together, the couple has a daughter named Sia and a son named Aks. Ram, who will be seen in "Humshakals", says a balance needs to be maintained between a couple to raise children properly.

"If we both work too much, then it's not right to plan a family. We both realized that now we have to concentrate on kids. Now Gautami is working again slowly, because now the kids are little grown up," he said.

Ram-starrer "Humshakals", directed by Sajid Khan, is releasing June 20.

The stage glittered with the presence of Hindi cinema icons like Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra and Aamir Khan, when the trio, along with veteran actress Saira Banu and author Udaya Tara Nayar, launched thespian Dilip Kumar's long-awaited autobiography "The Substance and The Shadow" in his presence here Monday evening.

Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, who was slated to sing at the event, couldn't make it.

Held at Grand Hyatt in Santa Cruz here, the red carpet of the event saw celebrities from the old and gold age as well as new generation walk in for the momentous night.

From Zeenat Aman, Danny Denzongpa, Farida Jalal, and Vyjayanthimala to Subhash Ghai, Ayan Mukerji, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Rajkumar Hirani, Madhuri Dixit and Priyanka Chopra attended the gala.

Dilip Kumar's wife Saira Banu, who looked resplendent in a green sari, was overwhelmed to see the fraternity's participation in the event, which saw Karan Johar as a host. She hoped the book is appreciated.

Before the event, she said: "Please pray that the dedication we have written the book, it is received by the readers in the same way. Every chapter in the book is important and you all will read something that you have not read before about him."

Born Muhammad Yusuf Khan, the actor entered filmdom with the 1944 release "Jwar Bhata", and thereafter dedicated six decades of his life working in much appreciated films like "Mela", "Naya Daur", "Devdas", "Madhumati" and "Mughal-E-Azam".

His autobiography chronicles the 91-year-old's life from his days as a child to present - the ups and downs in his life, his family, career, wife and more, as told by him to Nayar, who is a close family friend.

Aamir, who recited a poem penned by Prasoon Joshi specifically for the occasion, said: "We all were eagerly waiting for this big day. I am a huge fan of Yusuf sahab and I was waiting to read his book and his experiences."

Actress Priyanka Chopra, who walked the red carpet, said she was "honoured" to be invited for the event.

"I'm so happy for them today. They have been close to my family for a long time. I have seen all his films and I really admire him," she said.

For Madhuri Dixit, who walked in with her husband Sriram Nene, it was a proud moment to be part of the event.

"Dilip Kumar is a legend in himself and it's a big day. He has been an inspiration for everybody," she said.

Lata Mangeshkar, who is close to Dilip Kumar's family, had given her consent to perform at the event, but if sources are to be believed, her ill health didn't allow her to be present.

People learn more from misses than hits: Abhay Deol

$
0
0

After putting up a brave front by choosing unconventional roles on the screen, Abhay Deol tried his hand at film production with "One By Two", but the film failed to impress moviegoers. The actor is undaunted and in no mood to "quit" as he believes that in life, "misses" are a bigger learning than "hits".

"Nothing is a mistake in life. A mistake only happens when you don't learn from it and I believe that people learn more from their misses over hits. So it ('One By Two') was a learning experience for me," Abhay told IANS.

The actor says one failed venture can't deter him from trying out new things in future.

"It has not put off the process of production for me. You can't quit. Why wouldn't you want to produce other films especially after learning so much from your first production venture? You're better equipped now for your second project," he added.

Directed by Devika Bhagat, "One By Two", which released earlier this year, starred Abhay himself with his real life girlfriend Preeti Desai.

The film was made for about Rs.15 crore and it managed an opening weekend collection which reportedly ranged only between Rs.1.25 crore and Rs.1.5 crore.

However, the "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara" actor has decided to move on and is now working on his next production titled "Bounty Hunters". Once again, he is producing it and acting in it as well.

If reports are to be believed, he has joined hands with a Britain-based production house to co-produce the film. But Abhay, who was recently in the capital to be part of Mission Energy Sessions, organised by NDTV along with Grundfos Pumps India Pvt Ltd, wants to wait before confirming anything.

"That was something that the producer announced, but there was no movement happening on that front. I haven't personally spoken about that as I need a few things to be cleared before I talk about it. And those few things have not happened; so there is no point of talking about that," he said.

Active in Hindi filmdom since his debut in 2005 with "Socha Na Tha", the 38-year-old has faced the camera to play various kinds of roles in films like "Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.", "Ek Chalis Ki Last Local", "Manorama Six Feet Under", "Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!", "Dev.D" and "Chakravyuh".

With nine years of experience in showbiz, he was last appreciated for his role in 2013 released film "Raanjhanna", also starring Sonam Kapoor and southern actor Dhanush. Now, Abhay is looking forward to a busy year ahead with his acting projects.

What's also taking up his time is an eco-friendly home in Goa.

Sharing his concept of making the house, he said: "I'm making it as green as possible. There are people who will rate the house and tell us how green it is. We will follow up and make sure that it stays green and also there are those who will give me ideas on how I can use the power and energy in the best way possible."

Splitsville in times of 'Splitsvilla'

$
0
0

The ball for the seventh season of "Splitsvilla" on the idiot box is ready to roll, but in the real world of celebrities - Hollywood or Bollywood - it's been quite a season of splitsville already! Love, breakups...it's zindagi, I guess.

Almost every now and then, we're caught in the midst of 'stories' with celebrities - in Hollywood, Bollywood and all of these 'woods' - 'calling it quits', 'parting ways', 'filing divorce', 'going separate ways' and, yes, 'heading to splitsville'. No fun, really.

What's the 'entertainment', I'm curious, in someone else's heartbreak, sadness, loneliness and insecurity? But these, as one finds, meander as 'news', sometimes as screaming headlines, and often, as back page or late night 'masala'.

That Karisma Kapoor-Sanjay Kapur's marriage has not worked out for the best has been a matter of constant intrigue over the past few years. Of late, one has seen increased reportage on the split of the Bollywood 'Greek god' Hrithik Roshan with his childhood sweatheart Suzanne Khan; of acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap with the talented actress Kalki Koechlin; tennis ace Leander Paes with Rhea Pillai and, of course, actress Chitrangada Singh with golfer Jyoti Randhawa.

In the Hollywood world, one has been fed with details of love gone kaput in the case of Jennifer Lopez-Casper Smart, Rita Ora-Calvin Harris, Ashton Kutcher-Demi Moore, Gwyneth Paltrow-Chris Martin and the likes.

It's all out and open - split wide open about the splits - with the five Ws-one H (Who, What, Where, When, Why and How) questioned repeatedly, without fail.

Then, we talk of 'private lives'. Do they have one, really? Do they even have the right to one, I wonder?

Seemingly not, it seemed more so following a recent chat with the Indo-Canadian porn superstar Sunny Leone, who is now creating new waves in Bollywood.

"As actors and entertainers, we live a very open book life, and this is the lifestyle we've chosen. No matter how much you try to hide from people, it's going
to come out. It's an inevitable thing," said the 'Baby doll', who is basking in her own fairy tale romance with Daniel Weber.

The words came out from her confidently, but with a 'sorry' sounding tone. That's what it is - a sorry state of affairs - where 'fairy tale' stories of love and romance are perhaps best kept for the celluloid.

Interestingly, Sunny is now the host of a fresh season of "MTV Splitsvilla". It's a dating reality show, rather a 'hunt for love', where 20 girls will woo and vie for the attention of seven men. People can 'dump' each other, and it's all in good fun really - unless of course, someone finds 'true love'.

Entertainment!

Relationships are becoming volatile and fragile, agreed. But entertainment as frivolous as this - is it needed? In the already confused state of mind that the
youth seems to be in, there seems to be a constant feed for more confusion from the world of showbiz on love, relationships and friendships, which in my opinion, are food for life.

But voila! A channel official disclosed that as many as 68 million people tuned into the sixth season of the show, and they expect to draw more with the forthcoming season. I wonder if I'm excited.

To dear Sunny Leone, it all seems fine. But what when it's publicised via a show?

"Ummm...whether it's right to publicise it...well, they're on a show, so they should be okay with its publicity," she said.

I differ, miss.

Maybe celebrities have become accustomed to having their life out in the open, and even aspiring celebrities as in on 'Splitsvilla', but for most common men and women, love, breakups are emotions about their 'zindagi' and are best kept private.

In "Citylights", Patralekha plays actor Rajkummar Rao's wife, who, when she comes to Mumbai, has to work as a bar dancer to earn a living.

Better to face hardships in beginning: 'self-made' actor Mohit Marwah

$

0

Actor Mohit Marwah who is making his Bollywood debut with "Fugly" has the pedigree. His uncle is Anil Kapoor. And his cousins are Arjun and Sonam Kapoor. But he chose to go through a string of auditions and training for his break as he believes the feeling of being self-made is incomparable.

In an interview, Mohit has shared his journey to getting a role in "Fugly", his struggle, his camaraderie with his famous family and his training.

Excerpts from the interview:

Q. What is it like to be waiting for your first film ?

A. There's actually no time to think of it. All four of us (Vijender Singh, Kiara Advani, Arfi Lamba and I) who are part of the "Fugly" cast have been running around like headless chickens from city to city promoting the film. Sometimes when I wake up, I don't know which city I am in.

Q. Was acting a pre-given career considering the family you come from?

A. Not really. Having spent most of my childhood in Delhi, I was pretty much away from Mumbai's film culture except through Boney mama and Anil mama's family. Only when I was in class 12 did I start looking at cinema as a career. After completing my schooling, I joined a film school in the US and then assisted a couple of directors. Now here I am.

Q. Did Boney and Anil help you get your first break?

A. Not at all. That's not the way the family thinks. That's not the way I wanted it. After I went to film school, I shifted to Mumbai and began auditioning like any newcomer for two years. That's the only way to do it. I had a dream and I chased it.

Q. But it's a very long and painful process?

A. Yes. But the sense of satisfaction that I felt when I finally got 'Fugly'...it's hard to describe the feeling of being self-made. I'm lucky to come into the film industry at a time when new talent is being welcomed. So many new actors are coming in. I couldn't have chosen a better time.

Q. How did you overcome your shyness?

A. I told myself that if I wanted to be an actor I had to be a 'besharam' (shameless). I chose to study cinema in New York because it helped me open up my personality. I came back and acted in short films, one of them for Karan Johar's Dharma Productions which Shakun Batra directed.

Q. Were you on your own in New York?

A. For a year I was living with two other students from India. Then during my second year, my cousin Rhea (Sonam's sister) joined me. The two of us rented an apartment together. That was a fun phase. That was a home away from home.

Q. You could choose to lead a pampered life?

A. I feel it's better to face the hardships in the beginning. It is important for me to undertake that journey of my career on my own. But let me tell you, my struggle became far easier because I have so much family around.

Q. Do you look up to your uncle Anil Kapoor as an actor?

A. Without a doubt. I've seen how much of himself he puts in every role. His passion is unmatched. From the time I was a kid I knew what we see is not just acting. There is a lot of hard work involved. He's punctual, hard working and fully focussed. I believe I've inherited his passionate energy.

Q. Do you see yourself competing with Anil Kapoor's son Harshvardhan when he makes his debut next year?

A. Not at all. All of us Sonam, Arjun, Harshvardhan and I have distinct personalities. The roles that Arjun is doing right now can't be done by anyone else. In any case, I'm closer to Arjun's age than Harshvardhan's. But I'm so happy there are so many of us.

Ready for summer wedding? Try innovative hairstyles

$
0
0

Beat the heat at summer weddings with interesting hairdos which will keep you cool and stylish at the same time.

Celebrity hairstylist Asgar Saboo has come up with a do it yourself (DIY) guide to no-fuss, chic hairdos which are perfect for summer wedding. These hairstyles will help you look your best with minimal effort and will leave your friends in awe, said a statement.

* The boho-beach wedding: A boho-chic half-up half-down twisted hairdo is perfect for a sweet playful look. Start by applying salt spray to your damp hair and scrounging it up to get a tousled texture. Then use a hair curler to get large bouncy curls. Then centre-part your hair and carefully twist one strand of hair on each side carefully securing them at the back. The twisted sides frame the face beautifully and can be adorned with flowers, for a pretty bohemian look.

* The rustic-belle wedding: A rustic country wedding calls for a romantic and feminine hair updo. Wash your hair the day before to allow the hair to produce enough natural oils so it will not fall flat immediately. Apply a styling mousse to your damp tresses, this will make it easier to hold the curl and will give it a nice volume and texture. With the help of curling tongs, create loose waves with the top and front sections of your hair. Then divide your hair into three sections and gather the middle section into a low undone bun. Secure it with bobby pins. Take the remaining sections and loosely pin the strands into the bun creating a "loose tuck" effect. Adorn the locks with pretty flowers for the ultimate rustic-belle look.

* The city-glam wedding: Sleek sophistication is the key to a glamorous city wedding. This is a very easy style that works with every dress. Start by thoroughly brushing your strands and apply a serum for a smooth and tangle-free feel. Then pull your hair up in a high ponytail and proceed by grabbing the base of the ponytail and carefully wrap it around the bun and pin it down with bobby pins. Don’t hold back with the hairspray.

* The unique-picturesque wedding: Whether it’s a castle or a vineyard, a lighthouse or the mountains, there is no need to fret. You can’t go wrong with a classical bouncy blowout. Start by applying a volumizing anti-frizz mousse and divide your hair into four sections, then part it across the middle. Clip up the sections and then patiently work on one at a time with the help of a classic round brush and a good hairdryer. Tame the strands by directing the noozle over the bristles and brush the strands from top to bottom. It’s important to work the roots before giving the ends that nice soft curl. Finish by applying a hairspray to secure the hairdo.

Independence Day box office clash: Ajay Devgn, Sylvester Stallone

The India release of Hollywood star Sylvester Stallone's "The Expendables 3" has been advanced by a week in time to release on Independence Day Aug 15, the same day when Ajay Devgn-starrer Bollywood entertainer "Singham Returns" is due to hit the screens.

MVP Entertainment and PVR Pictures, the Indian distributors of "The Expendables 3" decided to advance the release date because they believe a star-studded film like it can definitely put up a fight at the box office with Bollywood actioner "Singham Returns" and they didn't want to miss out on the Independence Day weekend.

The distributors are also looking at a wider release for the project as the movie will hit theatres in four languages, including Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

Deepak Sharma of PVR Pictures and Sunil Udhani of MVP Entertainment issued a joint statement Tuesday to confirm the news.

The statement read: "'The Expendables' has become one of the biggest franchises across the globe. The second part of the film performed phenomenally well in India with a release as wide as 800 screens. The new instalment of the film - 'The Expendables 3' - is bigger than ever, with megastars like Mel Gibson and Antonio Banderas joining in, and the final product is stellar."

"We were toying with the idea of a release date between Aug 15 and Aug 21, and have concluded to come on Aug 15 along with the international release. We do understand that it is on the same day as 'Singham Returns', but we're certain that two films of equal sizes can survive at the box office."

"The Expendables 3" also stars Arnold Schwarznegger, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Jason Statham just to name a few, while Rohit Shetty-directed "Singham Returns" stars Kareena Kapoor with Ajay Devgn.

"Stallone and Schwarzeneger have a humongous fan following in India and the genre of the film suits the appetite of people here. We will be dubbing the film in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu and are even hoping for a wider release this time around."
