Salman Khan is considered a fitness icon in Bollywood, but the superstar says that he had to fight a "fitter" villain, played by newcomer Haroon Kazi, in his recent film "Jai Ho".

The two used to work out together in the gym where Salman, 48, noticed the hard work put in by the newcomer Haroon, who was spotted at the gym by his brother Sohail Khan -- also the director of "Jai Ho".

"We both trained together on the sets and before the film. When I met Haroon the second time, a month after the first (meeting), I found that he was working out to tone his physique more. And I had to fight a villain who was fitter," Salman said in a statement.

But, it was not easy for Haroon to beat up the superstar. The actor, who won the Gladrags Manhunt in 2000, said that he worked out a lot and also added that Salman's "home-cooked" food helped him in achieving a fit body.

"On the sets, Salman bhai used to share his home cooked diet food with me. The brown rice and boiled chicken ensured that my diet didn't go haywire. It also helped me perform better in the scenes," Haroon said.

The film, which also features Tabu and newcomer Daisy Shah, has received mixed reviews at the box office so far.

A court here Wednesday recorded the statement of Bollywood actor Salman Khan in the Arms Act case against him in connection with poaching of blackbucks.

"Salman, in his statement, has denied all the allegations and said he neither was carrying illegal arms nor did he poach blackbucks," Salman Khan's counsel Hastimal Saraswat told IANS.

The court has fixed March 10 as its next hearing date.

On the night of Oct 1-2, 1998, during the shooting of the Hindi movie "Hum Saath Saath Hain", two blackbucks, a protected animal under the Wildlife Protection Act, were allegedly killed on the outskirts of Kankani village near Jodhpur.

Salman khan, along with a few other stars, were accused of poaching the blackbucks.

During this time the Bollywood star was also accused of carrying illegal arms. He is alleged to have been carrying arms with expired license.

A complaint was filed against Salman Khan on charges of being involved in hunting protected blackbucks.

The actor was summoned by the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Chandra Kala Jain Jan 15 to record his statement Wednesday as an accused in this case.

His statement could not be recorded till lunch as his lawyers filed an application in the court, requesting that his statement should not be recorded and the different cases registered against him be clubbed together.

"In the previous hearing Jan 15, the court asked Salman Khan to appear before it Wednesday. He complied with the court order and arrived here," Hastimal Saraswat said.

"We had requested the court to club together the different cases registered against the actor. However, the court disallowed our application and recorded the statement of Salman Khan," Saraswat said.

Kanishka Sharma, who trained Madhuri Dixit for action sequences in forthcoming movie "Gulaab Gang", is in awe of the actress and says that she made all the tiring action sequences look effortless on screen.

"I remember a scene where Madhuri had to twist a man's arm and kick him hard. I rehearsed with her for a few hours before the shot, but was a little apprehensive. Later, I was shocked at how comfortably she pulled it off. She makes all my otherwise tiring action look effortless on screen!" Sharma said in a statement.

The 46-year-old diva got trained in rare martial art forms like Shaolin Kung Fu, Pekiti-Tirsia Kali and Shaolin Chin Na for the movie.

"The brief given to me by director Soumik Sen was to design the stunts in a manner that they look both aesthetic as well as realistic. It couldn't be as gritty as crouching tiger, hidden dragon, neither could it be as suave as the matrix," said Sharma.

"I was taken aback by Madhuri's agility and her pitch-perfect timing. I extensively trained Madhuri for a month in Shaolin Kung Fu, besides stick training, Shaolin joint locking, Kali knife, short stick and of course, close combat," he added.

Slated to release March 7, "Gulaab Gang" also features Juhi Chawla.

Style hair in vintage, sleek ways this Valentine's

$

Wear hues of red on Valentine’s Day, which falls on Feb 14, for sure but don’t forget your locks. Give a glamorous hair makeover by trying vintage curls, side-swept quiff and more.

Celebrity hair maestro Asgar Saboo suggests the types of hairstyle one should opt for depending on the plans for Valentine’s Day:

* Intimate dinner for two

- Vintage curls: Use volume spray before drying your hair, then insert hair rollers working your way from the top of the head. Leave the rollers in for at least an hour. Make sure to brush out the curls with a comb and use plenty of hairspray for maximum hold.

- Side-swept quiff: It is a classic hairstyle for men and has been loved all these years. Create a side parting and then dry your hair into the direction desired. Then use a styling cream, wax or wet look gel for a slick look. For maximum hold, you can also use a strong hairspray.

* Party hairdo

- Fishtail braid: Divide your hair into two large sections down the middle. Weave from the left by taking a strand of hair from the left side and pull it over the top of the rest of the left section. Take it under the right section. Ultimately, you are pulling the strand over the left section and under the right section. Repeat the same steps when you weave from the right section until you reach the bottom of the braid. Tie the end with a ribbon that matches your outfit.

- “The Great Gatsby” look: For smoother and silkier finish, your hair needs to be absolutely clean and well conditioned. After drying it, you need to get your hands on some hair styling products such as hair gel, wax or high-shine hair spray and then comb it into a far-left parting. You can also smooth a little moulding paste to keep your hair in place.

Would like to be known more for acting than figure: Nicole Faria

$

Model-turned actress Nicole Faria, who made her acting debut with recently released "Yaariyan", says that she would like to be recognized more for her personality and acting than her hour glass figure.

"I do not believe in fitting into stereotypes. I would like to be recognized for my personality and my acting capability. Looks are a bonus. I feel comfortable with my body and I do not believe I flaunt it. However, yes... I am proud of how I am able to maintain myself," said the 23-year-old winner of Miss Earth 2010 featuring on the 2014 Kingfisher Calendar and a regular on fashion runways.

"I would be happy if I were to be recognized for my acting ability some day," added Nicole.

She played the role of Jia, a young and sexy college girl, in Divya Khosla Kumar's film and she says that auditioning for film was the toughest part.

"Auditioning for 'Yaariyan' was tough. My main impediment was speaking Hindi. I had taken French in school, and so this was a challenge for me. Thankfully with Divya and the team's help, I was able to make it," Nicole said.

She also felt that there is no rule that needs to be followed for getting into acting. However, formal training is needed.

"I do feel that getting formally trained is a big help, even if you already are a natural as an actor. Initially we just have to follow what we are told, but I guess all actors will develop their own style as they get to be more experienced and successful. Life, I believe, is a true learning experience and I continue to learn as I move ahead," she said.

Entering the film industry was like a movie script for Nicole. Modelling was her first stint in the limelight. From there, she went on to become Miss India, first winning at the southern level and then at the national Level. This changed things for her as a model and winning the Miss Earth international pageant in 2010 changed her life forever.

"Till then, no other Indian pageant winner had won an international pageant for 10 years. I also happened to be the only Indian to have won the Miss Earth Title. This gave me a lot of media and pageant attention. I loved it. When I got a call to audition for T-Series, I knew that the universe was backing up my plan. Now, I am determined to make it as an actor," she said.

Nicole, who schooled and graduated from Bangalore, credits her parents for being her "inspiration" as she walked up the stairs of success. She first got into the world of fashion as a 15-year-old, working in the industry in Delhi and Mumbai and also in Colombo.

So, what is more gratifying - facing the camera or walking the ramp?

"Each has its own challenges and each has its own highs. I would say that both are good, but I would prefer to go forward as an actor as it gives me many more options.... A good ramp model may not make it to acting. I am glad I got an opportunity to be in Bollywood," Nicole said, adding she would love to play a role like Angelina Jolie in "Mr and Mrs Smith" in Bollywood.

New singers getting more opportunities now: Antara Mitra

Singer Antara Mitra, who has sung songs like "Bheegi si bhaagi si" and "Saree ke fall sa", feels that the music industry has opened its gates to many new singers now.

"The monopoly of singers is going. Everyone is getting work...may be the quantity is less but quality is good. New singers are getting opportunities," Mitra told IANS in an email interaction.

However, be it "Gandi baat" or "Fevicol se", the lyrics of songs have become questionable. Mitra is of the opinion that as long as they don't offend people's sentiments, all kinds of lyrics are justified.

"The lyrics of songs are definitely becoming bolder. Till it's not offending someone's sentiments it's alright to be open about your art form," said the 26-year-old.

A former “Indian Idol 2” contestant, Mitra said that music reality shows provide a good platform for budding musicians nowadays.

"They give you a very basic stand to start...the rest is your talent and focus...(but) they are happening back to back and the public needs breathing space," she said.

As a singer, it is important for Mitra to catch the "vibe" of the song before she records it.

"Every song has a vibe of its own, to sense that you really don't need to know the backdrop. When I listen to a song I go completely by the feel of the song more then the background," she said.

"Ishaqzaade" star Parineeti Chopra in one of her latest interviews to fashion magazine Vogue India says that she seeks help from her actress-cousin Priyanka Chopra, but the latter is not her role model.

Parineeti said that she doesn't want to emulate the former Miss World, who has delivered hits like "Krrish 3", "Barfi!" and "Kaminey".

"She's not my role model. In fact, nobody is my role model. In this profession, you cannot aim at having a career like someone else's. I could be inspired by different people for different things, but that's about it," said Parineeti, who will be on the cover of Vogue India's February issue this year.

"Where it's helped me is that when I am in doubt I can call her and she always has the right answers," she added.

Parineeti, known for playing bubbly characters, made her Bollywood debut in 2011 with "Ladies vs Ricky Bahl".
