'Shake it...' not exactly tribute to Shammi Kapoor: Siddharth

Siddharth Malhotra, who launched the song "Shake it like Shammi" from his forthcoming film "Hasee Toh Phasee" on a dance reality show, said that the dance number is not exactly a tribute to late dancing star Shammi Kapoor.

Shammi Kapoor, often described as the swashbuckling actor of the 1950s and 1960s, had redefined the image of the traditional hero and jived and rock-and-rolled into people's hearts.

"It's exactly not a tribute to Shammi Kapoorji. We have just used a lyrical that how Shammiji used to charm girls with his shake-moves. There is a similar situation in the film where I try to impress a girl by shaking it like Shammiji", said the actor.

He visited Zee TV's show "Dance India Dance 4" Monday with his co-star Parineeti Chopra.

The actress felt that the show was a perfect platform to launch a dance number.

"The song is like a retro, rock-and-roll kind of a song. Since it is a dance show, we thought it's a perfect platform to launch our song," said Parineeti.

The episode will go on air this weekend.

Directed by Vinil Mathew, "Hasee Toh Phasee" is set to release Feb 7.

Tricolour make-up for Republic Day

$

0

This Republic Day, skip tri-colour clothes and footwear and try make-up using the three colours - saffron, white and green.

Aakriti Kochar, beauty and makeup expert, Oriflame India, puts together a few tricolour make-up looks that one can easily wear in subtle manner, reads a statement.

* All of us wear winged eye liners on a daily basis. Let’s twist it with our choice of eye-liner colour for the cat-eye look on Republic Day. Sport a bright green or amber eye liner and wing it out on the sides. For those who do not like too much colour, wear a white eye liner and flick it outwards. White is also the colour that brightens up your face in gloomy winters.

Add lots of mascara to add volume to your lashes. Sport this look without wearing a blush so that eyes are the focus. One can add on to this look by wearing a bright Orange matte lip colour, which is trendy.

* Double the liner or create multiple strokes of the same colour if you want bit of a more splash. If you are creative, then draw a winged black eye liner on top rim and outline it with shimmery white eye liner on top.

* White is the new black so follow it. Pick a frosty white eye shadow and softly blend it on your eye lid. This brightens up your eyes and is also a good way to showcase your patriotism on Republic Day.

Add lots of mascara to give volume to your lashes. Wear a coral gloss on lips and a dewy skin that looks radiant. For the look, if you want a little drama add false lashes to the look.

* For the minimalistic look, just apply white frosty eye shadow on the inner corner of the eyes. This brightens up the eyes and makes it look bigger. Add mascara or black eye liner for giving definition to the eyes.

Her last wish was to see me get married: Raima on Suchitra Sen

$

0

Raima Sen, who is confused about her feelings of grief and guilt after the death her grandmother and legendary actress Suchitra Sen, says that her granny wanted her to get married and she will fulfil her last wish.

This is the first time Raima has lost someone so close to her.

"I am stricken with guilt and regret. It's going to take a long to heal. Should I have spent more time with my grandmother? I guess the time you get with those you love is never enough. Thank god I wasn't somewhere else when she went," said Raima, daughter of Moon Moon Sen.

"Her last wish was to see me get married. I want her wish for me to come true," she added.

Sen, the reclusive Bengali screen goddess, died Jan 17. She was 82 years old.

"Why am I feeling so empty and guilty? I think I should've spent more time with my grandmom. My mother, my sister (Riya) and I are the only family she had, the only people she wanted to connect with. We felt responsible towards her. It's a terrible loss," said the actress of films like "Chokher Bali" and "Anuranan".

Recalling Sen's last days, Raima said: "She was conscious of her condition in hospital. But none of us thought she would go away. Her health didn't seem so bad..She was chatting asking about how her home was doing in her absence...We would bring her 'ghar ka khana' in the hospital. She would eat it cautiously. She also ate the hospital food."

Moon Moon is shattered.

"I really don't know what my mother will do without my grandmother now. They were one another's universe. To my mother, her mother mattered the most. My mom's bonding with my grandmother can't be compared with what my sister and I shared with our grandmother. Riya and I have our lives. But for our mom, her mother was her universe," said Raima.

"My grandmother and mother were best friends. It's surprising how different they were and yet they understood one another completely. It was a very difficult situation for my grandmother when my mother got married, moved out of her home and had her own family."

Raima, who has been in Kolkata for more than a month, says right now there is an incessant flow of guests in the house.

"It's only that I realise what my grandmother meant for the people of (West) Bengal. Instead of dealing with grief, we are coping with the flow of visitors. The enormity of the loss hasn't really begun to sink in. It will happen when we are alone."

However, as a child Raima knew nothing about the legendary aura surrounding her grandmother.

"When my sister Riya and I were kids, grandma had already given up films and public life. So, we only knew her as our grandmother and not as this iconic star until the time we became actresses ourselves. It was only then that we realised what a huge reputation our grandmother had."

Raima is all praise for her grandmother's determination.

"She took a decision to stay out of public view and she stuck to it. It's easy to withdraw from the limelight, but difficult to resist coming back to it. Once she made up her mind, she stayed away. She left everything and everyone behind. My mom, sister and I were all she had."

About Sen's mythic seclusion Raima reminisces, "When Riya and I were kids she took us shopping and boating. She would come home as we would go to hers. But no, she never cooked for me. Neither does my mother. But we'd have lunch together. I'd miss my lunches with my grandmother."

Raima was amazed by the turnout at Sen's cremation.

"Not even the biggest stars would get the kind of send-off that my grandmom got from her fans. And this, mind you, in spite of the fact that she hadn't been seen on screen for 40 years.

"When she was being taken I could see people coming out on the road with their hands folded saying goodbye to someone they will never stop loving. They threw wreaths and said prayers for her. This was not a normal farewell. The fans are fanatical about her. They loved her madly even when they hadn't seen her for decades. Apart from her immediate family the only ones who saw her were the doctors and the nurses who attended to her in her last days. "

Sen remained private even in death.

Said Raima, "The family made sure she remained undisclosed to public view even after her death. We had to respect her privacy."

"I am looking at her black-and-white pictures. That young beautiful woman resembles my grandmother. But I can't connect that lovely star with my lovely grandmother. Those eyes and the smile remained the same till the end."

We suffer from the 'crab' and 'grab' mentality: Rakesh Roshan

Director and producer Rakesh Roshan rubbishes reports that "Krrish 3" box office collection has been fudged and says that the criticism shows the kind of jealousy and negativity that this industry thrives on.

He says that the film has grossed Rs.244 crore and is likely to touch Rs.250 crore.

"Isn't this the way it has always been in the entertainment industry? We suffer from the 'crab' and 'grab' mentality. We can't watch anyone succeed," said Roshan who teamed up with his son and Bollywood heartthrob Hrithik for the movie.

"We should all be celebrating the success of a film, no matter who produces it. Because every individual film that succeeds benefits the entire industry," he added.

Excerpts from the interview:

Q: It is being said that the quoted box office collections of "Krrish 3" are being inflated?

A: Why should I fudge figures at this stage of my career? Do I need to? Who is saying all this?

Q: Some of your colleagues from the industry, to begin with.

A: It just shows the kind of jealousy and negativity that this industry thrives on. We should all be celebrating the success of a film, no matter who produces it. Because every individual film that succeeds benefits the entire industry.

Q: So what's the truth about the box office figures of "Krrish 3"?

A: The truth is that those, who are being sceptical about the figures, are not calculating the collections in the Tamil and Telugu versions of "Krrish 3". In Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, both the Hindi and the regional versions of the film were released. But in Mumbai they are cutting out the box office figures of the dubbed Tamil and Telugu versions of the film.

Q: Why are members of your fraternity so eager to prove your figures wrong?

A: Isn't this the way it has always been in the entertainment industry? We suffer from the 'crab' and 'grab' mentality. We can't watch anyone succeed. And if someone does well we want to grab that success for ourselves. The minute I took the unpopular decision of releasing my film in partnership with single-screen distributors I knew I was looking for trouble.

Q: Why do you say that?

A: I haven't become corporatised yet. I am the only major producer, who still makes films and releases them without tying up with corporate houses. That makes me an easy target for everyone in the film industry. Or so they think.

Q: Are you saying you are arm-twisted because you are not tied up with any corporate houses?

A: Yes, there is a lot of pressure from corporate houses, film federations and union bodies. But we are very sure of our box office collections. It's the so-called trade experts who are giving conflicting figures. They should all come together and give one figure that is correct, according to them. And they should stop talking nonsense about how Hrithik and I are at loggerheads over the figures.

Q: Among the blockbusters of 2013, "Krrish 3" collections was the most debated?

A: Like I said the trade experts chose not to consider my Tamil and Telugu collections, though the collections in those two languages were happily considered in the case of "Dhoom 3".

Q: So what is the exact collection of "Krrish 3"?

A: Up till now the movie has collected Rs.244 crore. And it's still showing in theatres. But I don't think it will touch Rs.250 crore.

Bollywood stars never fail to set style trends. Shahid Kapur's straight shag cut and Saif Ali Khan's slick combed back look are some of the hottest trends of the season, according to hairstylist and entrepreneur Rishi Gupta.

Easy to achieve and simple to maintain, try out the following hair styles in 2014, suggests Delhi-based Gupta, who is the managing director and founder of Trendz group of salons.

"As each year passes, hairstyles evolve, as do fashion styles. Edgy, sharp and clean looks are the vogue in 2014 as far as guys are concerned," Gupta said in a statement.

"This year, hairstyles have taken out the complex monumental dos and gone back to an era of effortless casual looks. Busy lifestyle and a desire for versatility have changed the way we approach hair," he added.

Here are some styles you could try:

* Close razor short crop - This style involves a crew cut on the sides while leaving some length on the crown with lots of texture to play with. Simple styling products such as setting gels and waxes may be used.

* Gelled-up, dapper do - Popularised by cricketer Virat Kohli, this is an edgy style for the short haired gentleman. It is a vintage look with a side parting. It is easy to achieve this. All one needs, is a bit of mousse and gel.

* Gelled and combed back look - Saif was seen sporting this suave look in his post wedding pictures with wife Kareena Kapoor. This is the easiest of them all and timelessly fashionable. Just get a little pomade (greasy hair product for gloss) and slick it back.

* Straight Shag - This involves medium length hair and is ideal for men with strong jaw lines. Shahid has been seen rocking this style for quite sometime now. The cut comprises of long hair in the front and medium layers at the back. This cut can soften that alpha male jaw while giving you a dapper look. An anti-frizz serum is all that one needs to maintain the look.

Girls like being chased: Siddharth Malhotra

$
0
0

For Bollywood's current heartthrob Siddharth Malhotra, "Hasee Toh Phasee" is not just a film title. He actually believes in the dictum and says the best way to impress girls is to "chase them" and "make them laugh".

"Laughter always works, compliments work...so does being honest. Girls like it when you chase them. They like compliments. They like it when you use various means to get their attention," Siddharth told IANS in an interview.

The mantra is to keep your women happy, says the actor.

"I think for boys, if the girl laughs, it is a good thing. It means that the boy at least has a chance. All boys should try it...be it in a relationship or friendship, keep your girls happy," he said.

Directed by Vinil Mathew "Hasee Toh Phasee" also stars Parineeti Chopra and promises to be much more than a regular romantic comedy.

"It is very high on content. It is a very intimate film. The characters are very different. I am playing a character who is stressed out, lost and sentimental. He meets this girl who is a bit cracked," he said.

Siddharth made his acting debut with Karan Johar's "Student Of The Year" (SOTY) along with fellow debutants Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan. The film enjoyed good success at the box office and the candyfloss romance was a sheer example of the grandeur and elegance of a film directed by Karan.

"Hasee Toh Phasee", again produced by Karan, is however different from SOTY, said Siddharth.

Talking about his character, Siddharth said that he is "not a typical hero".

"He is not so successful...he is under pressure and is the most stressed out character in the film," he said.

The film did not only allow Siddharth to play something new but also gave him a chance to be back home in Delhi. Being born and brought up here, the actor misses his family and friends when he is in Mumbai.

"I don't have family there. You miss hanging out with cousins and old school friends. You miss that comfort zone and support system," he said, adding that he makes it a point to visit home "once every two months".

The weather is another thing that attracts Siddharth.

"The more time I spend in Mumbai, the more I want to come here. Delhi has winter and Mumbai doesn't; so we get to wear these cool clothes here. I miss the food, family interactions, and places to go. Delhi has changed, but it still has that family charm to it," he said.

A former model, Siddharth had his own share of struggle and before his big break, he even worked as an assistant director in Karan's "My Name Is Khan". He feels the key to success is to keep on moving forward and taking whatever work you get.

"The advice is to not sit at home and wait for that phone call. You should keep doing something or the other...anything which you do will help you as an actor. I feel it is important to keep at it; if it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone," he said.

With his next, Mohit Suri's "The Villain" scheduled for this year as well, the actor said that he would finally be able to prove his full potential.

"I guess after this year, I will be in a better position to see where I am headed. I am doing two very diametrically opposite films. It takes a lot from you as an actor to do this. It will be very interesting to do this," said Siddharth.
