While there were reports that the government is planning to take back Saif Ali Khan's Padma Shri award, the Bollywood actor's wife Kareena Kapoor has put the rumours to rest by saying that the authorities have sent a letter mentioning they are not taking back the award.

"Government has already issued a letter saying they are not taking his Padma Shri back," Kareena told reporters during an event here.

The fourth highest civilian honour was conferred on the actor in 2010 for his contribution in the field of art but it was reported that the government is planning to take it back in the wake of a Mumbai court framing charges against him for assaulting an NRI businessman at a hotel here.

"The letter is out and the media should have received the letter by now. This was given to him three to four years ago and the verdict of this case is not yet out. They are not revoking Saif's Padma Shri," the actress added.

It was reported that Saif hit a South Africa-based businessman on his nose at a Colaba hotel in February 2012.

Actress Nargis Fakhri had an unexpected moment - the slit of her bold dress split further apart as she was going to take a final bow as the showstopper of jewellery brand Azva at the BMW India Bridal Fashion Week (IBFW) here Saturday.

The actress put up a confident stance despite the slit, which opened up further after a model accidentally stepped on her dress.

However, that didn't deter the confident actress from flashing a million dollar smile.

She wore a black dress with a neckline plunging enough to give a clear view of a 22 carat gold choker in an antique finish.

The "Rockstar" actress had already done her catwalk before the 'oops' moment happened.

After the show, Nargis told reporters she just laughed off the incident.

"Nothing happened. Someone just stepped on my dress and I started laughing. I laugh a lot when I am nervous," she said.

During the show, models sauntered the ramp wearing elaborate ornaments in gold as part of the brand's wedding collection. The jewels were accentuated with glitzy red carpet ready outfits in white, bold red, lavender and pink.

Nargis apart, the show saw Priya Sachdev and Rohit Bal take to the ramp as showstoppers.

What added to the ambience was singer-model Rachael Verghese, who enthralled the audience with some enticing numbers including Adele's "Skyfall".

The posters of forthcoming film "PK" showing Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan virtually nude, finally got some clothes here Saturday.

Vile Parle Congress legislator Krishna Hegde 'dressed' up the actor's poster and a cutout before a large number of people who cheered and clapped their approval.

Terming the actor's posters as "distasteful and against Indian culture," Hegde formally 'clothed' Aamir in the poster in a bright green pair of shorts and a grey tee-shirt.

"Aamir Khan is a good actor and hosts Satyameva Jayate. These posters are distasteful and against Indian culture. They create a wrong impression in the minds of families and youngsters who consider him an icon," Hegde said at the symbolic event.

He urged Aamir to immediately withdraw this objectionable 'nude presentation' on the movie "PK" posters, which "has crossed limits."

However, he clarified that the intention was not to indulge in moral policing but to send a message that such posters are not required for publicity for an acclaimed actor like Aamir.

Aamir (49) had termed the controversial poster a "key art", depicting the storyline of the movie made by Rajkumar Hirani.

Defending it, Aamir had said, "When you (audience) will watch the film then only you will be able to understand the idea behind (the poster). But I would just like to say that the kind of filmmaker, the kind of writer Rajkumar is, he always tries to present the things, his thinking, in a unique way and that's why I am his huge fan."

Besides Aamir, the movie - slated for a December release - features Sanjay Dutt, Anushka Sharma and Sushant Singh Rajput.

She was born and brought up abroad, but she has come to love everything Indian, courtesy her stay in Bollywood. Actress Nargis Fakhri, who walked the BMW India Bridal Fashion Week ramp for a jewellery brand here Saturday, says she's in awe of the intricacy that goes into making traditional Indian jewellery.

As the showstopper for jewellery brand Azva, the "Rockstar" actress flaunted an opulent statement choker which complemented her flamboyant black gown on the ramp.

For her catwalk, she flaunted one of Azva's pieces from its latest collection of 22-carat bridal gold jewellery.

"I like to wear jewellery, even though I like my look to be minimalist. When I go out for events, I like to have at least one statement piece. It always adds glamour," Nargis told IANS in an interview here.

For the ramp show, her jewellery piece was handcrafted in gold with an antique finish designed by a craftsman from Junagadh.

"I'm hoping someone will buy it for me someday," the actress quipped, and added that she is yet to buy herself an exquisite piece of ornament.

She says she prefers Indian designs in jewellery.

"I'm intrigued by traditional Indian designs. They are so beautifully handcrafted and the designs are so intricate and beautiful. I really prefer the Indian designs," the actress added.

Since Nargis wore a black gown for the bridal show, one couldn't help but ask if she feels women have gone beyond the stereotype of colour in bridal wear.

To that, the New York-born beauty said: "I come from a culture where we wear white for weddings. In India, it's different. But I really feel that there should be no set notions, and a bride should only wear something when she's comfortable in it."

Luckily, Nargis was at ease while walking the ramp. She always finds it a fun experience.

"It's something I am confident about. It gives me an adrenaline rush - who wouldn't want want to wear beautiful clothes and jewellery and look wonderful - it's a dream job for many," she said, admitting that her "heart starts racing" when she's on the ramp.

Though she had a bit of an 'oops' moment before the show ended, she smiled on. That's some confidence!

Kangana turns Shekhawati princess for Suneet Varma's bridal show

Bold and beautiful Kangana Ranaut made for a regal looking Shekhawati princess in finery designed by Suneet Varma for his elaborate and stunning showcase at the BMW India Bridal Fashion Week (IBFW) here. Her look was well-accentuated by an intricately designed statement headgear, and she loved it.

The "Queen" actress, who seems to be getting used to playing 'Rani', catwalked confidently in a maroon and red ensemble, which included a blouse that many won't dare to wear for their wedding day.

Nevertheless, it was beautifully crafted and embroidered. The dupatta, in velvet, was neatly draped and pleated on her shoulder and her neckline was wide enough to put a one-of-a-kind neckpiece inspired by a peacock, on full display.

Post the show at the DLF Emporio here Saturday night, Kangana told reporters: "My experience was fantastic because Suneet has made such lovely clothes. He is a great friend of mine. I am feeling proud seeing his collection."

She said she likes walking the ramp as "it's a good change from my routine".

A veteran designer, Varma's new collection 'The Princess of Shekhawati' is inspired by the hand-painted city of Shekhawati in Rajasthan.

"We took inspiration for the mirrorwork, jewellery and crowns from there, and used the Rajasthan technique to make every jewellery piece by hand in our office. When we were thinking of the showstopper, I couldn't think of anyone else other than Kangana. She's not only a good friend, but she infuses life into clothes, and it's something a lot of Bollywood actresses can't do," Varma said.

Kangana has no wedding plans as of now, but she has already set her eyes on the outfit she'd love to wear for her D-day.

"I showed Suneet one piece with the mirror work. I've told him, 'If you get an invitation for my marriage, bring this ghaghra choli along," she added.

The line was eye-soothing and most pieces would have Punjabi brides-to-be swoon over them. A mix of subtle, traditional, contemporary, blingy and ethnic - the collection has something for every prospective bride.

Anarkalis, suits, saris and cocktail gowns dominate the line, which has been created using a melange of colours which are palatable for bridal and pre-bridal events.

The show started on an interesting note with a rope dancer performing acrobatics. The set was as elaborate as the line - with a life-size statue of a painted elephant, and a huge motif of a peacock adorning each side of the stage. Overall, it looked like a mini palace.

"We took inspiration from miniature paintings from Rajasthan and drawings and artwork from Shekhawati as they have specific artwork. The idea was to get elements together in the clothes, jewellery and set," Varma said.

Actresses like Swara Bhaskar and Mandira Bedi won't be able to tie rakhis to their brothers Sunday as they are not in the same city. But Richa Chadda and Bipasha Basu are lucky to be home to celebrate it with their loved ones.

Here’s what they have to say:

Taapsee Pannu: Since I don't have my own brothers, I tie rakhi to my cousins Tajinder, Tanvir and Udayveer. Since I can't be with them, I've couriered them the rakhi along with chocolates. Now waiting for return gifts!

Mandira Bedi: Sadly my brother and I are never in the same country on Raksha Bandhan, so I have to courier him the rakhi, with instructions to my 'bhabhi' to organise his favourite sweets. I miss the fact that I haven't been able to tie a rakhi on my brother's wrist since our school days.

Kriti Sanon: I don't have a brother. My cousin brothers are abroad, so my sister and I tie a rakhi on one another. After all even sisters can protect one another, no? We are in different cities this rakhi. I received her rakhi and asked mom to buy her one from me. We will celebrate on the phone.

Aahana Kumra: My brother Karan lives in Philadelphia and my sister Shivani and I send him a rakhi every year. I have a cousin in Mumbai. I tie a rakhi on my co-actor Pavail Gulati, who plays my half-brother in ‘Yudh’. But he has run off to Delhi. I'll tie him a rakhi and take a gift from him when he returns.

Swara Bhaskar: Sadly, I will be away from home this rakhi when my brother is home after many years abroad. This year I'll say some extra prayers for him as he has begun his own business venture. I am in London and I intend to get him a gift when I return home.

Richa Chadda: I will tie a rakhi to my cousin who lives in Mumbai and make him some daal khichdi.

Bipasha Basu: I'll spend some time with my mooh-bola bhai (director) Soham Shah and we'll eat together.

RJ Malishka, who has been evicted from the ongoing season of "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa", says she would like to come back on the dance reality show as a host.

When asked whether her aggressive attitude, and lack of lady-like airs and graces were the cause for her early eviction, she protested saying: "I disagree with that. I could be as ladylike as any other girl. I know how to grow my nails and walk in heels."

"The aggression came from a genuine feeling of competitiveness. It was natural for a boisterousness to creep into my speech, to talk in a tone slightly higher than usual, to assert myself. I've no regrets about the way I came across. I'd like to come back on the show as a host during the next season," she added.

The spunky radio jockey enjoyed every minute of her time on the show.

"It was fun while it lasted. To be honest, being on the show was like a dream come true. From childhood I had always been a fan of Madhuri Dixit's dancing. I'd fantasize about dancing like her and in front of her. My dream came true," she said.

She believes that "the show gave me a face".

"Until I went on 'Jhalak...', I was just a voice," she added.

The RJ-turned-dancer was never daunted by the intricate dance steps.

"You can ask my choreographer. I never said no to any dance step, no matter how out of my comfort zone it may have been," she said.

"Sauvage means wild and Nuit means night in French. We wanted some inspirational traditional Indian designs and mixed it with something different," Shane told reporters here post the show Saturday night.

Kolkata policewoman's dance with SRK draws criticism

$

Politicians Sunday criticised a woman police officer for dancing in uniform alongside Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan at an event here.

They pointed fingers at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who was also present.

Sub-inspector Sampa Haldar was seen dancing to a popular number from the Khan-starrer "Jab Tak Hai Jaan" as a host of top police officers and Banerjee watched from the gallery at "Jai Ho", the Kolkata Police's annual cultural programme at the Netaji Indoor Stadium here Saturday.

Former city police Commissioner Nirupam Som said the officer has belittled the sanctity of the police uniform.

"During my tenure, I would not have allowed any officer to dance like that and belittle the sanctity of the uniform. I would have no problems had she danced in civil clothes. I wonder how the superiors allowed that," Som said Sunday.

Former IPS officer Samir Gangopadhyay too said the police regulations did not allow any personnel to dance in uniform.

"Going by what we saw yesterday (Saturday), I am afraid that we might see our officers dancing like Chulbul Pandey," said Gangopadhyay, referring to a Salman Khan-starrer movie where the star portrays a police inspector.

State Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury accused Banerjee of defying the constitution by allowing the officer to dance in uniform.

"The constitution doesn't allow any person to dance like that in uniform. It's a shame that the sanctity of police uniform was allowed to be violated. By allowing the officer to dance like that, she (Banerjee) violated the constitution of India," said Chowdhury.

With a bevy of actors and actresses being a regular feature of government and Trinamool Congress-organised programmes, BJP state president Rahul Sinha said Banerjee's entry into politics was a mistake.

"Going by her eagerness to involve film stars in each and every programme, it seems our chief minister has wrongly entered politics. The sooner she realises that and quits politics, the better it will be for the people of Bengal," said Sinha.

Dressed in an elaborate gharara and traditional jewellery, stylist and costume designer Pernia Qureshi, who is making her acting debut with Muzaffar Ali's "RAQS - The Dance Withiin", managed to give audiences here at the BMW India Bridal Fashion Week (IBFW) a taste of her look in the upcoming period drama.

She plays a courtesan in the movie.

Filmmaker Muzaffar Ali, known for helming "Umrao Jaan", along with his wife Meera, co-own the label Kotwara.

As part of their show at IBFW Sunday night, they amalgamated the best of the brand's past collections over the last five years. The ensembles were then evolved and detailed to the next level of refinement and perfection.

The line featured suits, saris and lehengas with unique features like pearls blending with sequins, chiffon blending with velvet and net blending with brocade to create a collage of textures, silhouettes and colours.

Overall, the collection presents the quintessence of the Awadh culture as evident in "RAQS - The Dance Within", set in 1877.

Pernia, who has styled actress Sonam Kapoor multiple times and also has an online pop-up shop, elicited curiousity as she took to the ramp in a gharara, which happens to be one of the outfits that she has worn in "RAQS...".

A part of the outfit has been taken from a heirloom item belonging to the royal family of Kotwara that Muzaffar Ali belongs to. The flare of the gharara was such that when Pernia catwalked, she had to hold on to it rather than letting it free.

Post the show, she quipped: "While I was shooting for the film with them, I used to wear it for three hours. So, I guess, now I can jog in it."

Praising the designer duo's fashion, Pernia said: "There's a consistency in their designs and they have exquisite. One thing that always stands out in their collection is that you'll always look 'appropriate' wearing their creations anywhere."

The jewellery too played an important role in reflecting the right image of the character that Pernia plays in the film.
