The Punjab and Haryana High Court Tuesday ordered a stay on the release of Hindi film "Grand Masti" in theatres in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.

The film was scheduled for release across India Sep 13.

A lawyer had petitioned the court that the film contained vulgar dialogues and obscene content.

He said the movie promos were degrading to women, and that the content of the film was indecent.

Starring Vivek Oberoi, Riteish Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani, "Grand Masti" is a sequel of the film "Masti", which was released in 2004.

In his petition, the lawyer also sought directions for the Central Board of Film Certification to reconsider its approval granted to the film.

Mumbai's chawls inspire mobile game 'Fighter Lukkha'

After being featured in films like "Agneepath" and "Hera Pheri" or small screen shows like "Pavitra Rishta" and "Madhubala" - Mumbai's chawls have now inspired a mobile action game called "Fighter Lukkha".

The game features a protagonist named Lukkha, who takes on his archenemy Todfod.

The new launch was to offer a taste of local flavour, said Sameer Ganapathy, chief operating officer - Digital, Disney UTV.

"Chawls have been an inspiration for films, television serials and even books...making them nationally famed. The mobile audience in India has always loved content with a local flavour and our game 'Fighter Lukkha' provides just that. We thought why not create a game in this setup and give our audience a feel of chawls," Ganapathy said in a statement.

"Set in a Mumbai chawl, 'Fighter Lukkha' showcases action, fun and strategy with great elements witnessed in a chawl - fellowship, brotherhood and togetherness. In fact, to draw inspiration, our development team even visited chawls for days together to create something true to its essence," he added.

The users start playing as Lukkha and together with his gang members, fight against Todfod.

Like the chawl residents, who are extremely close knit and treat their neighbours like their own family members, even the game captures the essence of brotherhood that they share. In the end, it is about the victory of good over evil.

'Gori Tere Pyaar Mein' trailer spells desi aura

$

Can two people with different objectives in life have a happily ever after? This is what director Punit Malhotra's movie “Gori Tere Pyaar Mein” tries to understand, but in a light, slice-of-life and colourful manner.

The trailer of the Karan Johar production was launched Tuesday.

It is full of colour, some rustic flavour and seems to be a typical Bollywood potboiler complete with songs and dance.

"Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu" jodi Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor are back on the big screen with the movie, albeit in a role reversal of sorts.

Here, Imran's character is a party loving and a high-on-life person, while Kareena plays the role of a focussed patriotic social worker, who gives utmost importance to national issues.

In a bid to win Kareena's heart and prove his love for her, Imran goes after her to a remote village to bring her back to the city. His escapades and adventure seem to be the fun factor in the movie.

While Imran looks like the boy-next-door, Kareena's understated look as a social activist definitely makes you sit up and notice her distinct style statement which has a designer touch courtesy Manish Malhotra.

As an overview of the trailer, one ends up feeling it gives out too much of the plot's movie in its two minutes and fifty second-long trailer.

What one has to wait and watch for is whether it has much more to offer. "Gori Tere Pyaar Mein" releases Nov 22.

His latest release Tamil comedy "Varutha Padatha Valibar Sangam" (VVS) has minted Rs.11.85 crore in its opening weekend in Tamil Nadu. With this, actor Sivakarthikeyan has added a fifth hit in a row to his credit.

Siva's earlier four Tamil hit films are "Marina", "Manam Kothi Paravai", "Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga" and "Ethir Neechal". All the movies struck gold at the box office.

"VVS has turned out to be the biggest hit in his (Sivakarthikeyan) career. The film registered the biggest opening in the actor's career so far. It has raked in a gross of Rs.11.85 crore in the opening weekend in Tamil Nadu," trade analyst Trinath told IANS.

"Siva is just five films old, but he has turned out to be an actor of the masses. All his films so far have predominantly targeted the masses with comedy being a common genre. He has now become a sought-after actor in the industry," he added.

Siva's last film -- Tamil romantic-comedy "Ethir Neechal" which was produced by Dhanush -- reportedly minted over Rs.15 crore at the box office on an investment of approximately Rs.5 crore.

Even before the release of VVS, Siva signed another film with its director Ponram. The film is expected to go on floors soon.

He also has a Tamil fantasy-comedy "Maan Karate" in the offing.

'Gori Tere...' completely for masses: Kareena Kapoor

The first look of Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan-starrer "Gori Tere Pyaar Mein" is out, and the actress says the movie is totally for the masses.

She says unlike the 2012 film "Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu", which saw Kareena and Imran on screen for the first time, "Gori Tere Pyaar Mein" is filled with item songs and has a fun quotient about it.

Asked about the experience of working with Imran again, Kareena said: "I think it has been great because I did 'Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu' with Imran. It was so special. It was slightly English, it was not for the masses, it was a classy film. But this is completely the opposite and is mad."

"It has three to four item songs and it is what everybody would like. I think it is going to be fun. I saw the trailer and (my husband) Saif (Ali Khan) saw the trailer too. He thinks it is fun," she added.

The 32-year-old spoke here Monday at the launch of the new version of the Filmfare magazine. Its new edition features her on the cover.

Meanwhile, the trailer of "Gori Tere Pyaar Mein" was launched Tuesday.

Two posters of the film were released Sep 8.

Directed by Punit Malhotra, "Gori Tere Pyaar Mein" is a Karan Johar production. It will release Nov 22.

“Falguni and Shane Peacock on a fabulous runway show! So many incredible designs, can't wait to wear them! New York Fashion Week,” the 32-year-old, who also wore a knee-length dress created by the designer duo, posted on Twitter.

“Love the Falguni and Shane Peacock dress I'm wearing to their runway show. So futuristic and unique,” she posted further.

India's entertainment industry growth pegged at 18 percent

$

With a robust 18 percent annual growth, India's entertainment and media industry is set to log a turnover of Rs.2,245 billion ($34 billion) by 2017, backed by rising consumer and advertising revenues, says a major industry report.

The size of this industry increased from about Rs.805 billion in 2011 to Rs.965 billion in 2012 with a 20 percent annual growth, despite a slowdown in the broader economy, said the report prepared by the Confederation of Indian Industry and PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

"It is expected to grow further at about 18 percent (compounded annualy) over 2012-2017 and reach revenues of about Rs.2,245 billion in 2017," said the report that is to be formally released Sep 13 at the CII Big Picture Summit here.

"This growth is driven by the introduction of cable TV digitization, continued growth of regional media, continued strength of the filmed entertainment sector, fast-increasing new media businesses and transparency," said CII director general Chandrajit Banerjee.

"We believe that innovation -- faster, better, more efficient, thinking out-of-the-box and within-the-box -- would be one of the game changers in this space," Banerjee added.

Key revenues projections between 2012 and 2017:

-TV market to grow 17.9 percent annually from Rs.383 bn to Rs.872 bn

-Filmed entertainment to grow 12.2 percent annually from Rs.112 bn to Rs.199 bn

-Print to grow 9.3 percent annually from Rs.212 bn to Rs.331 bn

-Radio to grow 15.6 percent annually from Rs.15 bn to Rs.32 bn

-Music to grow 15.1 percent annually from Rs.13 bn to Rs.26 bn

-Gaming to grow 18.8 percent annually from Rs.18 bn to Rs.42 bn

-Internet access to grow 29.8 percent annually from Rs.171 bn to Rs.631 bn

-Internet advertising to grow 29.4 percent annually from Rs.23 bn to Rs.84 bn

With a chapter on the innovation-imperatives in the rapidly-evolving entertainment and media sector, the report says that the Indian businesses, like their peers abroad, will need to raise their game in operational agility and customer insight.

"To achieve it successfully, every participant must invest in constant innovation that encompasses products and services, business and operating models and, most importantly, customer experience and engagement," the report says.

"Innovation should be seen as an important enabler to get closer to consumers and profitably deliver relevant content and services."

The report notes that factors such as rapid rise of internet usage, high penetration of smart phones, digital advertising, broadband, digital content consumption and regulatory interventions made a significant impact on the entertainment and media industry.

In revenue-share terms, the TV and print segments continued to dominate with about 40 percent and 22 percent share, respectively in 2012. Yet, internet access now commands around an 18-percent share and films around 12 percent.

In 2017, while television will continue to lead in terms of revenue contribution, with a 39-percent share, the share of print and films are likely to decrease to 15 percent and 9 percent, respectively.

But internet access will see its share rise from 18 percent to 28 percent.

"Today, if we take the entertainment and media growth without taking internet access and internet advertising into account, the size increased from about Rs.690 billion in 2011 to almost Rs.795 billion in 2012," says the report.

"It is expected to grow at about 15 percent annually over 2012-2017 and reach revenues of about Rs.1,615 billion in 2017."
