Megastar Amitabh Bachchan is upset and infuriated over a fake video on the YouTube, in which he is shown promoting Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Big B said that he did a campaign for a media group in the year 2007 where he talked of the glorification of the country. But, someone has made a fake video by using his voice and text and uploaded it on the YouTube.

"Somebody has made a fake video by using my voice and text of what I spoke in the original, and falsely and mischievously, interspersed it with visuals which indicate a campaign for the promotion of the honourable Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi," Bachchan posted on his blog (http://srbachchan.tumblr.com/), Wednesday night.

The 70-year-old also added that he has alerted authorities and would take action against the person, who had created the fake video and uploaded it on Youtube.

"I wish to state that this is an illegal act, inviting strong action, one that I am appalled by, and one that has no concurrence from me at all... I have brought this to the notice of the concerned authorities, and asked my Digital Team to find out its origin so that we can initiate action against the perpetrator," he posted.

"This is a blatant misuse and infringement of the Copyright Act, and needs to be condemned by all those that become a part of the platform. I am infuriated and angered," he added.

Bachchan's fans have shown support and posted comments favouring deletion of the video from YouTube.

Punjabis in Canada oppose Honey Singh show

Members of the Punjabi community in Canada's Ontario province are opposing a show by Punjabi rapper Honey Singh on the grounds that his lyrics are violent.

Over 1,100 Punjabis have signed a petition to stop a performance by Honey Singh at Punjabi Virsa Day 2013, an annual event, to be held at the Wonderland theme park in Vaughan Saturday.

“We don’t think a singer like him has any place in a peaceful country like Canada,” the Toronto Star quoted Gurmukh Singh, co-founder of Guru Nanak Mission Canada, as saying. The charity launched the petition.

“We don’t want to bring all the gun violence and vulgarity from back home into this nation.”

However, Wonderland theme park and the show’s organisers have refused to accept that the rapper's lyrics were so offensive that he cannot be allowed to perform.

“We’re a family park, and it is important to us to ensure that programmes are family friendly,” Wonderland spokesperson Dineen Beaven said.

“We’ve done background on the performer and we’ve spoken to the producer and we’re going to proceed with the show,” he added.

Honey Singh came under fire in December after a song titled 'Mein Hoon Balatkari' (I am a rapist) attributed to him surfaced on the internet.

It happened shortly after the now infamous December 2012 rape in New Delhi but Singh denied writing the number.

A case filed against him over the issue was dismissed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

According to Joginder Bassi, one of the organisers of the Saturday event, the petitioners are overreacting to Honey Singh's music.

“Canadian society is a lot more open than Indian society, and if Indians and Punjabis have no issue with Honey Singh, one must ask why a few people here are trying to make it an issue,” the Star quoted him as saying.

Around 8,000 tickets for the show have already been sold.

Pritpal Chattha, president of the Guru Nanak Mission Centre in Brampton, fears the show might lead to fights between different groups, giving the Punjabi community a bad name.

He said the rap artiste's lyrics teach young members of the Punjabi community to be violent and objectify women when in fact it is important to teach them the very opposite.

“Especially for a society that is so male-dominated, it gives the wrong message,” he said.

One flop film doesn't affect you: Ajay Devgn

$

His last film "Himmatwala" bombed at the box office, but Ajay Devgn, who has been part of the industry for over two decades, says a flop can't take a toll on his career.

"One flop film doesn't affect you as you are not running short of good films. People also know that film didn't do well, but the actor has been accepted for so many years, so it happens. It's part of the game," said Ajay who entered Bollywood in 1991 with "Phool Aur Kaante".

In the meantime, the National Award-winning actor considers himself lucky for being accepted in both serious as well as comedy films.

He said: "I consider myself lucky as there are hardly any other actors who can do a balance of both. I feel lucky that audiences have accepted me in both kinds of films. So it gives me a lot of satisfaction."

The actor-producer has been part of massy and classy films like comedy "Golmaal Series" as well as films like "Zakhm", "Company" and "GangaaJal".

But when it comes to choosing films, Ajay has his own yardstick. He feels with stardom comes responsibility and that is why he has decided to avoid being part of vulgar cinema.

"I have decided not to do any vulgar films after 'Rascals'...I believe many stars are not doing that," Ajay told IANS in an interview.

"It's okay if a newcomer or young kids make it because they don't have an image, but stars have an image and children's also identifies with it. So, if they do it, it goes wrong," he added.

More so because his films are now being seen by his daughter Nysa.

"My daughter is my biggest critic. She comes and tells me, you were not interested in that song. Why were you dancing when you were not interested? She passes such genuine comments," said Ajay who is married to actress Kajol and have two children with her - Nysa and son Yug.

Currently busy promoting political drama "Satyagraha", he likes to do aggressive films.

"'Satyagraha' is a great balance between keeping it realistic at the same time making it commercial. (Director) Prakash Jha is good at it. I like doing aggressive films and this film had that aggression and it targets youth.

"Today's youth is concerned about what is happening. Earlier, there were no candle light marches. Today, things have changed and they (the youth) react to it and are not depending on the government," he said.

When it comes to admiring youth, Ajay also appreciates new breed of actors in filmdom for their their professionalism and clarity of thoughts.

"You need to be professional. At times we do films because of our relationship and we suffer, but new lot doesn't want to do that. They are professionals and I like it," the 44-year-old said.

In "Satyagraha", Ajay will be seen sharing the screen space with Amitabh Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor when it will come out Aug 30.

Celebrity author Shobhaa De says that masala films are what we enjoy and that all commercially successful films are not "lousy".

De, who kicked off the Manhattan Short Film Festival India 2013 Master Class Series with her topic - Reviewing Film Reviews - Wednesday, educated students on how to truly appreciate Hindi cinema of today.

She told them not to let commercial success of a film influence their decision to watch a film or not.

“Don’t go by the commercial success of a movie. Make up your own mind. Or don’t even hold the commercial success of a movie against it. I know a lot of movie snobs, who say that if a movie has made a Rs.150 crore, it has got to be a lousy film,” De said in a statement.

“It must be a mass entertainer, it must be a masala film. There’s nothing wrong with masala films. These are the films we really enjoy. If I were to tell you that I enjoyed 'Rowdy Rathore', which I did hugely or 'Singh is Kinng', I mean you watch it and see it in the context the film was made. Bollywood films are really telling us a lot about ourselves,” she added.

Actress Shilpa Shirodkar is set to make a comeback to acting after 13 years, but on the small screen. She will be seen in TV show "Ek Mutthi Aasman".

"I must have done something good in the 1990s that I got this opportunity to come back after 13 years," the 43-year-old said here Wednesday at the launch of the show. She is known for films like "Hum", "Gopi Kishan" and "Khuda Gawah".

Shilpa, a known face of Hindi cinema in the 1990s, left the industry after marriage.

When asked what dream she harbours for her real-life nine-year-old daughter, Shilpa said, "Right now I don't have to make her anything, it's only studies for her. I just want her to open her books more than the television."

Bollywood actor Ashish Chowdhry, who started his career with TV, is all set to return to the small screen with "Ek Mutthi Aasman" and hopes the show revives his career.

Best known for his comic timings in hits like "Dhamaal" and "Double Dhamaal", Ashish did TV shows like "Hum Pardesi Ho Gaye".

"TV has become much more popular. The whole scene has changed. I feel, if this show ('Ek Mutthi Aasman') works, my roles in films will also change and audience will also change (increase)," Ashish told reporters here Wednesday at the launch of the show.

He added: "I am happy being back (on TV) and I have no complaints with films."

What prompted him to do TV?

"The problem with the films (that I was getting) was that they were multi-starrer comedies, so I was like a slot.

"Of course, I should be happy and never complain because what's important is that you should get acceptance, wherever you get it and I got it in multi-starrer comedies, but I wanted to do something different," he said.

"Ek Mutthi Aasman" is about the dreams and aspirations of parents working as domestic helps and the theme of the show also appealed to Ashish.

Ashish said that after reading the script, he thouught he should grab the opportunity to give the society something a la Aamir Khan.

"Taare Zameen Par", directed by Aamir Khan, explored the life of a dyslexic child, who excelled in art, but failed in academics.

"He opened the eyes of the parents towards their children who don't study," Ashish said.

"Same is with 'Ek Mutthi Aasman' - there are our domestic workers, who serve us and helping them in fulfilling their desires or not ill-treating them... I think these problems are still unsolved in our country. Dignity of labour is still not there," he added.

"Ek Mutthi Aasman" also marks the comeback of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shirodkar.

It will go on air Aug 26 on Zee TV.

The Tamil version of John Abraham-starrer "Madras Cafe" was Thursday granted a U/A certificate for release in Tamil Nadu by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). No cuts have been made and the film will open in theatres as scheduled Friday, said a source.

"'Madras Cafe' got U/A certificate for Tamil version without any cut. Movie is releasing tomorrow (Friday) in Tamil also," said a source.

Confirming the same, a representative of the movie's co-producers Viacom18 Motion Pictures, said: "The Tamil version of 'Madras Cafe' has been passed with U/A certificate with no cuts. We have also sought police protection to ensure a smooth release of the film."

The Hindi version of the movie also releases Friday.

As on Wednesday, a Madurai bench of the Madras High Court had observed that the Tamil version should not be released without an appropriate certificate, and the case was posted to Sep 3.

Petitioner B. Stalin, an advocate, had filed a PIL seeking a ban on the film, alleging that it contained "objectionable content" and might lead to law and problems if released.

The film, co-produced by John, who is also playing the lead in it, came under the scanner after Tamil activists alleged that it portrays the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) cadres as terrorists.

After attending a special preview of the Shoojit Sircar-directed film Sunday, the objection against the film by the groups grew stronger.

Tamil filmmaker Seeman, head of Naam Tamizhar (We Tamils) group, said the film was "nauseatingly anti-Tamil".

In a related development, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Tamil Nadu unit chief Pon Radhakrishnan said the movie should not be released in any part of the country.

Also featuring Nargis Fakhri, Rashi Khanna, Ajay Rathnam and Leena Maria Paul, "Madras Cafe" is a fictional story inspired by true events.

It is set against the Sri Lankan civil war and also depicts the 1991 assassination of former Indian prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.

India needs more multiplexes to reach the 500 crore revenue mark

$
0
0

Chennai Express recently made more than 100 crores in revenue. If you compare that to Hollywood movies, 100 crores is probably the budget of a small Hollywood film. India is a theatre deficient country. It has been studied that there are just 10 screens per million people, where as in a country like United States, there are 120 screens per million.

This is a figure in spite of the fact that India is the world's largest film producing country with more than 1000 films per year and also the no. 1 when it comes to ticket sales, with more than three billion tickets sold each year.

India has only 1200 multiplex screens, whereas the number of single screens is close to 12,000. In spite of this, the multiplexes account for two-thirds of the box office revenues. Clearly, there is a need for more multiplexes if Bollywood hopes to break the 500 crore ceiling.

The emerging trend seems to be establishing multiplexes not just in the big cities but also in smaller cities and towns. Mukta Cinemas, an entity of Subhash Ghai’s Mukta Arts Pvt. Ltd. is one of the leading companies following this model. After establishing multiplexes in Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Gulbarga, they'll soon be inaugurating their latest multiplex in Vizag.

Let’s hope the trend continues and soon Bollywood will have its very own 500 crore movie.

Meanwhile, Parineeti, who is busy promoting her film these days, is also unfazed about it and is looking forward to watch "Zanjeer".

"It's just happens that her (Priyanka) film and my film are releasing together, but it doesn't affect us. I will watch her picture and she will watch mine and you all will watch both the films," she said.

Vaani Kapoor, whose debut film "Shuddh Desi Romance" is about conflict between love and commitment, supports dating culture and says it should not be confused with sex.

Time for men to go bold with neon colours

Women wear bright coloured apparel to brave the dull sticky weather. Men can follow suit by teaming neon bandhgalas with beige or khakhi fitted trousers or bright jackets with white shirts, says experts.

Neons come in various shades like green, blue and yellow and they can be part of western as well as traditional attire. While you are all game for flaunting the bright colours, make sure to team them with right colours.

"Neon colours look fun, youthful and when teamed elegantly, usually look regal. Sport a neon bandhgala, with beige or khakhi fitted trousers or breeches to add that 'coolness' to your look. Bright jackets can be worn with white shirts to tone it down a little,” said a Barkha ‘n’ Sonzal told IANS.

To add drama to Indian attire, they suggested to wear kurta or stole in neon colour instead of the regular gold and creams. A bright tee with dhoti pants are great for a casual outing.

Men can try neon coloured accessories.

“You can add some pop to your boring shirt and jeans with a funky neon scarf, watch or wrist band. Neon shoes and bags are quite a rage these days as well,” said the designer duo said.
