The Recyclewala Story Search is very close to my heart: Sohum Shah

0
0

Sohum Shah was recently seen as Investigating Officer Vedant in Vishal Bhardwaj's latest production, Talvar. Sohum, who is also the founder of Recyclewala Films, is however busy with his latest initiative – The Recyclewala Story Search 2015. Sohum said, “What we are looking for is magic. The magic of a great story. And, once we find that we plan to work with the writer(s) to develop it into a script and then make it into a film. At Recyclewala, all our films came to us as ideas and then went through a process of evolving into film scripts."

Recyclewala Films has slowly made a name for itself as a production house that aims to bring diverse and original voices from India to the big screen and the company plans to make this Story Search an annual feature. "The Recyclewala Story Search is very close to my heart because I am also an outsider, and I understand just how tough it can be to find your way around here.” says Sohum Shah.

Sohum’s knack for defying conventional wisdom is apparent with Ship of Theseus, a film that no one else in the industry would produce. The film went on to win widespread acclaim and a National Award. His next production Tumbad, reportedly landed up with Recyclewala after five years of doing the rounds of producers’ offices. Tumbad and Ship of Theseus are two very different films. But they share one thing in common. Both are built on exciting ideas with a unique voice. "We’re looking to identify and develop more such original and entertaining content.” says Sohum. Both these films have also been helmed by first-time directors, reflecting Recyclewala Films’ belief in pushing new talent.

Sohum Shah is currently getting rave reviews for displaying a chameleon-like transformation in his role as Investigating Officer Vedant in Vishal Bhardwaj's latest production, Talvar; a distinctly different turn from his last screen outing as stockbroker in Ship of Theseus.

The Script hunt is to commence on October 14th and will end on November 14th , 2015. The selected entries will be announced on 25th November. The writers of the winning scripts will get Rs. 5 lakhs as signing amount. To participate writers can submit their entries on the Recyclewala Facebook page. Exciting?

Aftab Shivdasani nostalgic over 'Mast' memories

0
0

As "Mast" -- a film about a love story between an actress and a student -- clocked 16 years of its existence on Thursday, its actor Aftab Shivdasani walked down the memory lane and said it has been a "beautiful journey" till now.

"Today, 16 years ago, 'Mast' released...What a beautiful journey it has been! #16yearsofmast #nostalgia," Aftab, whose career gained momentum in showbiz after the film, tweeted.

After exploring the Hindi film world as a child artist in films like "Mr. India" and "ChaalBaaz", Aftab made his adult acting debut with the 1999 film opposite Urmila Matondkar.

The Ram Gopal Varma directorial presented a fresh story with some innocence at its heart. The film's music like "Ruki ruki thi zindagi" also became an instant hit.

However, despite having a successful debut, Aftab could not establish a strong ground in Bollywood with flop films like "Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega", "Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe" and "Pyaasa".

After a low phase, Aftab hit the jackpot again with sex comedies "Masti" and "Kyaa Kool Hain Hum". He is now awaiting the release of third instalment of the film -- "Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3".

Music composer Amit Trivedi and lyricist Kausar Munir have joined hands with megastar Amitabh Bachchan to compose the title track of the new TV show "Aaj Ki Raat Hai Zindagi".

Amitabh has given his voice for this peppy number and has also co-composed the title track along with Trivedi, who is known for songs like "Iktara" and "Gal mithi mithi bol".

Munir, who has won many accolades for her lyrics in films like "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" and "Ishaqzaade", penned the lyrics for this special song.

"I have a great working relationship with Amit Trivedi. And what does one say when you have Amitabh Bachchan at the helm, he was so involved with the music and appreciative of the lyrics," Munir said.

My father's music interest followed my genes: Big B

0
0

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who has crooned numbers like "Holi khele Raghuveera" and "Ekla chalo re" and "Piddly" for his films, credits his father and late poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan for his inclination towards music.

"The music that represents me, that I get the opportunity to explore and compose, comes from within by its own accord. There is no training nor any professional bearing. It just comes.

"I cannot but begin to believe that the strains of my father's music interest, has followed my genes as an integral part of my construct. I do not have any other reason for its presence," the 73-year-old posted on his blog.

The star, who has made a special place in the world of showbiz in his over four decade career, has also inspired many with his vocal qualities and its not just movies where he showed his singing capabilities, Big B is also composing and singing for a new TV show, "Aaj Ki Raat Hai Zindagi".

However, he has some "reservations" too.

"Music remained integral in us all from our days of learning to crawl. But the learning of it, crawled throughout us. Till date, I ask many of those that have the blessings of notes and chords and voice, what it would take to be in their justice, in their sanctified courtyard. They assure me it to be never too late. I have reservations.

"My hours and time has passed and wished away of learning. May it remain within, if not in learning, then in its subdued and silent presence," he wrote.

The "Shahenshah" of Bollywood also says that its not just his father who was a music aficionado but his mother too.

"My mother lost her mother at birth. She was cared for and nurtured into life by those who mothered her. Those that did, and I had the fortune till date of being in their love affection and respect, fondly remember her vivacity and joy of life. Her singing, her voice, her aesthetics and her zestful aura.

"She was the soul and the life of all her surroundings. She would walk into an environment and there was a silent awe that followed her. She would drive her friends to long journeys and sing and make happy banter. She married my father in disobeyed feelings from her father and the family. She came away swiftly and suddenly from her affluent aristocratic home, to the humble lower class belongings of my father. She brought nothing with her, except a few clothing to wear … and … a gramophone .. and old winding one, antique now, but grand in its bearing. It remained with us and me in particular for long - at lest till we were in Delhi," he wrote.

"My mother and I would often listen to those songs of the times. Some I can still remember in tune. The arm of the gramo, the placement of the needle, the circular 78 rpm vinyl records, the 'emoticon' of that horned instrument with the dog listening to it .. the logo of all music material .. the label and the tag of 'His Master's Voice' , famously becoming HMV...," he further posted.

Neha Dhupia doesn't propagate 'size zero'

Former beauty queen Neha Dhupia says she's not "that kind of a person" who propagates size zero.

Neha, now an actress, will soon be seen anchoring and co-judging the “Kingfisher Supermodels 3” show. She will also be mentoring 10 supermodels who would battle it out through 20 episodes of tasks and challenges.

Asked if size zero is still a major issue?

“No matter how I answer it, it will sound like I am propagating size zero and that is not true. I am not that kind of person at all. The only thing I am propagating is when your professional requirement is that you have to have a certain body type, you need to have that body type,” Neha told IANS here.

“When it comes to being a model, you have to look good in clothes that the designers give you. It isn't that the clothes should wear you. Designers look at models who can carry off their clothes,” she added.

“Kingfisher Supermodels 3” will go on air from Saturday on NDTV Good Times.

Style is what makes you: Kashyap

0
0

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, known for making realistic films that don't necessarily have happy endings, believes that be it your weakness or insecurity, style is what makes you.

"People ask me why do I tell serious stories and why not happy ones?... I say that I have seen life too closely. In my initial years especially, and I have seen failure a lot of times," Kashyap said.

"Somehow anything else that I do, just for the sake of pleasing anybody else, it rings false. There is a kind of dishonesty to it," Kashyap added, speaking at the 11th edition of Blenders Pride Fashion Tour 2015 on his definition of style on Sunday.

"Style is what makes you. Be it your weaknesses or insecurities," said Kashyap, who has helmed movies like "That Girl in Yellow Boots" and "Ugly".

Stressing on his journey of success and failure in life, the "Bombay Velvet" director said that the two elements play a major role in his distinct style of work in the industry.

At the fashion tour, models, donning creations of designer duo Abraham and Thakore were also spotted.

The models, who sported black kohl tikas, black smokey eye make-up, flaunted the designer duo's collection that consisted of saris, suits, coats, skirts and trousers in hues of black, charcoal, brown, ivory and purple shades.

All creations were held together with traditional art of Kantha work, some made by hand and some made by machines.

"We have also created sequins from discarded hospital X rays and film. We sourced antique recycled brocade borders and ribbons; used recycled snaps and hooks as decorative ornament," said the duo in a joint statement.

While the creations were being showcased to a jampacked audience, the band Madboy/Mink added a flavour of mid-tempo jazz to the show with "Fire in the street".

Designer Rahul Mishra also presented his collection at the fashion event here. Using colours like white, ivory, black, blue and peach, the collection showcased time travel by warping the fabric of time and space.

While the prints depicted villages of the world, the collection as a whole encapsulated the balanced existence of nature and mankind, traditional or woven, in the form of mostly western wear.

Actress Neha Dhupia, dressed in black and white ensemble, added the star factor to his new range.
