Kamat viewed 'Drishyam' purely as script not as remake

After Marathi blockbuster "Lai Bhaari", Nishikant Kamat is now directing upcoming investigative thriller "Drishyam". Though it is an official Hindi remake of a Malayalam film of the same name, he says that it was mainly the script that he kept in mind while making the film and never tried to replicate the original.

"I looked at this film purely in terms of a script. I didn't look at it as something which was made before and that I had to replicate," said Kamat at a special media interaction for the film.

"There's a director's perspective on how you make the film, how you edit it and how you present it and I did it my way. I had only seen the film (the original) once and strictly avoided seeing it again so that I don't lose perspective. I followed the script and treated it as our own version," he added.

Kamat said: "We changed the milieu, the backdrop and made it a more pan-India film. We began the changes by first naming the protagonist as Vijay Salgaonkar, and then we placed it in rural Goa. We designed the plot according to this plan and chose to have a certain scale for the film by trying to scale up the film."

Other than the Malayalam original, the film has also been adapted into Kannada, Telugu and Tamil languages. And the Tamil version of the film titled "Papanasam" and starring Kamal Haasan was released on July 3.

On the occasion of the World Population Day on Saturday, megastar Amitabh Bachchan has "thanked" the world for addressing the world's second largest populated country India as an "emerging economy".

He also said that no other country in the world has emerged so fast after being ruled for so many years by a foreign power.

"Consumerism shadows those that once expressed apprehensions for a nation with 1.25 billion people being its biggest drawback...for the economists that guide and predict the state of the economics of the world, no longer refer to a 3rd world nation as 3rd...they have denoted a progressive phrase - "EMERGING ECONOMY," the 72-year-old wrote on his blog.

"So India is no longer 3rd world, its an emerging economy... Thank you world for this consideration and for the acceptance of a fact that was always true for the nation - there are very few, indeed none, among the Independent nations, who having lived and survived foreign rule, colonisation, and suppression from other invading powers, that have shown the kind of 'emergence’ as has India,” he added.

Amitabh, who has been active in the entertainment industry for over four decades, has represented India at various international platforms. He made his Hollywood debut with 2013 film “The Great Gatsby” opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan.

On the career front, the “Piku” star will next be seen in “Wazir” along with multifaceted Faran Akhtar.

Monsoon the ideal time for weddings, says Taapsee

$

Most people are apprehensive to plan their weddings during the monsoon season. Little do they think that it is the most beautiful time of the year to tie the knot, says actress Taapsee Pannu, who also has her own wedding company The Wedding Factory.

Here are five tips from the new wedding planner on the block:

* It is important to keep your guests dry. So, look for a combination of outdoor and indoor space or even makeshift arrangements. Along with the guests, the equipments used by a band or DJ shouldn't be exposed to rain either.

* One can brighten up the entrance with enchanting umbrella and floral decor. A good umbrella set up with flowers in between would be a quirky tip for the perfect monsoon wedding decor. Also, clean plastic tent decors are a latest hit in the decor market.

* Keeping a monsoon wedding, one should be extra careful of the food arrangements. Getting the food and beverages from outside could be of a task as one can be delayed by traffic or other natural circumstances that happen during the season. Also, one needs to be sure of the freshness of the food served to the guests. An in-house food arrangement would be a perfect pick in this case and would be easy on your pocket too.

* Getting all decked from salons in this season could go for a toss. Bookings for a hair and make-up team isn't that of a fuss nowadays. One can get their favourite looks at the comfort of their home. An in-house make-up artist is a smart choice in a weather so unpredictable.

* The bride should avoid wearing silk or anything heavy. Fabrics like chiffon, georgette and cotton are good options. During monsoon, since the humidity level goes up, wearing synthetic fabrics may be uncomfortable. Even the groom should avoid wearing anything heavy and prefer a light fabric.

Style shouldn't be a burden to anyone: Aditi Rao Hydari

Bollywood actress Aditi Rao Hydari, who was last seen in Subhash Kapoor's film "Guddu Rangeela", says that style is an inherent thing and shouldn't be a burden to anyone.

"Style for me is more of an inherent thing. It's something that can't be bought. It certainly shouldn't be a burden to anyone and it should be fun, effortless and comfortable," Aditi, who was in Bangalore for the "Kingfisher Derby Draw of Lots", where she picked the position of the race horses for the Kingfisher Derby event that will take place on Sunday, told IANS.

Talking about her style quotient and what she would like to wear for the event, Aditi said that she would like to wear a "vintage dress and a beautiful hat".

The 36-year-old, who is blessed with flawless skin, says that she uses "minimal make-up" for clear skin.

"The most important thing is that I do not use a lot of make-up on my face, and I think that is what works best for me. Too much make-up clogs up your pores and prevents your skin from breathing. Many people feel that wearing a lot of make-up makes you look glamorous, but I think it's really unnecessary," the "Boss" actress said.

"I totally go by the natural regime - I try and eat healthy even though I do binge on chips and golgappas occasionally! Eating nutritious food and drinking a lot of water are essential to my daily health routine. I don't smoke either, so that helps keep my skin clear and fresh," she added.

The actress ventured into Bollywood with the 2008 film "Delhi 6" and will next be seen in "Wazir" starring Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar.

Actress Richa Chadha, who plays the main protagonist in the internationally lauded emotional drama "Masaan", says the film "shows the true nature of Benares."

"'Masaan' doesn't show any new avatar of Benaras. It shows the real, true nature of Benaras. We just surrendered ourselves to this city and then it actually accepted us." said Richa during a promotional event at Red FM Studio here.

"Masaan", which won two FIPRESCI Awards at Cannes earlier in May, is currently making its promotional progress in India, and Richa says she wants the film to be "well-received and appreciated" in the country.

"We want our internationally award winning film to be well-received and appreciated in India and I want everyone to watch this movie. It is a very good and positive film," said the 26-year-old.

Though "Masaan" will hit Indian screens only on July 24, a Cannes-cut version of the movie was screened at the sixth edition of Jagran Film Festival in New Delhi earlier this month, and elicited a positive response.

The film's story revolves around four lives which intersect along the Ganges: a low-caste boy falling hopelessly in love, a daughter ridden with guilt of a sexual encounter ending in a tragedy, a hapless father with fading morality, and a spirited child yearning for a family, long to escape the moral constructs of a small-town.

Singer Sona Mohapatra, who is not only famous for tracks like "Ambarsariya" and "Bedardi Raja" but also for her energetic stage performances, says she loves to perform on stage and there is nothing else that fuels her like a live audience.

"A live audience fuels me like nothing else and I really live to be on stage. It is as important as oxygen. It's a very emotional thing to be on stage and to make people happy and to get them to give you that love in return. It's like the most incredible high, you don't have to ever drink alcohol if you can go on stage," Mohapatra told IANS.

And she says she doesn't consider her as just a singer but a storyteller.

"I don't see myself as a mere singer, I never have. I see myself as a storyteller. I will always interpret a song and tell a story. I will find an emotion, a mood and a whole colour palette in which to say it in," she quipped.

Mohapatra, who also appeared in Aamir Khan's talk show "Satyamev Jayate" as a lead singer and performer, said her roots lie with classical and folk music and she has a deep connection with that kind of music.

Asked if she is close to classical and folk music, she said: "Absolutely, that's where my roots are, that's the kind of music that I like. While growing up, I barely listened to any English music. Thumri was the genre that I loved the most. Folk music made me dance more that anything.

"It's a deep rooted love for these forms yet, I'm someone who loves dance music too like electronica in the right space is amazing."

Mohapatra, who launched the first track "Neher vale pul" of her new album "Punjab Project - Volume 1" on Thursday, said the new album will introduce the old legends of Punjabi music to the new generation.

"There is a whole lot of music and poetry to be explored in Punjab. The Punjab Project is about paying a tribute to that and yet we're taking a risk in saying that we want to put it in a electronica sounsdscape to reach out to a brand new audience to let the new generation discover those legends and try and do something from our side and innovate," she said.

Real change starts from home, says actress Shiny Doshi

$

Actress Shiny Doshi, who is playing Sarojini in TV series "Sarojini, Ek Nayi Pehel", says the show embodies the spirit and strength of every contemporary Indian woman and reflects a message that if you want to drive real change, it has to begin at home.

The show will start from July 20 on Zee TV and depicts a story of Sarojini, a strong, well-educated girl, who gets married to Somendra, played by actor Mohit Sehgal.

Somendra's family has a regressive patriarchal set-up - a household governed, dominated and practically ruled by chauvinistic father-in-law Dushyant, played by Pankaj Tripathi.

Refusing to cow down to his controlling ways like the rest of the family members, Sarojini takes the challenge head on and strives for a healthy balance of power and influence in the household, leveraging education to her advantage.

Shiny says that show "informs and educates people about the evil practices against women."

"The show has a very unique storyline. There is not only humour involved in the script but it also informs and educates people about the evil practices that are being carried out against women. It will also provide them with full entertainment dose because of the additional humour element," Shiny told IANS during the shoot of a sequence at Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) here.

Shiny, a television actress and model from Ahmedabad, made her debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Saraswatichandra" on Star plus. She played the role of Kusum, the parallel lead in the show.

Talking about her role in "Sarojini, Ek Nayi Pehel", the actress says the character is shown as very "practical and very ethical in her life."

"She is a kind of girl who will always stand for women empowerment. She believes in family values but she won't be doing anything forcefully or without her wish. So, she is pretty straight and also fun loving," said the 25-year-old.

Shiny also says that she can easily relate herself with Sarojini and that's the reason why she gave a nod to the show.
