Want to put crack-free foot forward? Know how

0
0

Hot water, excessive scrubbing and wrong kind of footwear can take a toll on your feet. Want to have smooth feet? Make a concoction of kitchen ingredients and opt for the right kind of pedicure.

Priyanka Tyagi, cosmetologist and head trainer at Skeyndor, India said cracked feet are due to extreme weather changes, hot showers, dipping feet in hot water for long duration, too much scrubbing and cold temperatures.

She also holds harsh chemicals and a dehydrated body responsible for it.

Priyanka emphasises on wearing the right kind of footwear and added: “It should cover the foot from behind. This will protect your feet from getting cracked and dry."

High heels for a long time is a big no. Doing so increases body weight pressure on the heels.

“If there is too much pressure on the heels, the skin of the heels stretches and thus, cracks appear. In extreme cases it may even lead to bleeding,” Priyanka told IANS.

The basic thing she suggested is to drink water to keep the body hydrated as dry feet are more susceptible to cracks.

The other way to keep dryness away is to moisturise feet after taking bath. Vaseline and coconut oil are common ways to do it. Try out a few more home remedies.

Navin Taneja, Director of The National Skin Center advises use of banana to give back moisture to feet.

“Take the pulp of a banana and apply it on your feet. Leave the pulp for 15 minutes and then rinse off,” said Navin.

Ishika Taneja, international make-up expert and executive director of ALPS Beauty Clinic, gives green signal to lemon.

“Regularly soak your feet in lukewarm water with a few drops of lemon and jojoba oil. Then you can lightly scrub off the dead skin. Lemon is slightly acidic which helps take off the dead skin. Now massage your feet generously with glycerin and wear light socks,” she said.

She also explains how to prepare a mask using kitchen ingredients.

“Mix two tablespoons of avocado paste with half a cup of mayonnaise, and two tablespoons of oatmeal. Apply this foot mask for half an hour. Wash it off with cold water and pat dry,” said Ishika.

You should also pamper your feet once in a while.

“Visit foot spa at least once in a month as it not only cleanses, relaxes, but also helps in moisturising and healing dry and damaged feet,” Priyanka said.

Ishika suggests paraffin wax pedicure for treating cracked heels. “Due to heat, the paraffin penetrates deep into the cracks and gives them instant relief,” she said.

Have learnt the power of forgiveness from Milkhaji: Farhan

0
0

If "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" has been a life-changing experience for Farhan Akhtar, who plays the title role in the film and has learnt the lesson of forgiveness from Milkha Singh, he hopes the Olympian's biopic would help open the mind of federations, who start nurturing talents.

"Milkhaji taught me that you couldn't move on in life with the baggage of negativity and illwill. You can't be the Flying Sikh with that entire burden," said Farhan.

Talking about the film's impact, he said: "Athletes are bound to be inspired by the movie. But I hope sports federations should start getting a lot more sensitive towards athletes and nurture them correctly... Hopefully, the film will make people think," he said.

Farhan wears more hats than one - he is director, producer, actor and singer, but clarifies that he can do only one thing at a time, and right now his priority is to relax and unwind with his family.

Excerpts:

Q: What was your main area of interest while doing "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag"?

A: I was most amazed by his spirit. And that spirit is latent within us. It takes a story like Milkhaji's to awaken that spirit within all of us. What I learned the most is the power of forgiveness. Milkhaji taught me that you couldn't move on in life with the baggage of negativity and illwill. You can't be the Flying Sikh with that entire burden. So, in a way the running is a metaphor for an unburdened spirit of forgiveness.

Q: What do you feel about the plight of sportspersons who are not cricketers in our country?

A: I can only say there's a lot that needs to be done for them. The opportunities that sportspersons get outside the world of cricket are very few. The sports events like an Olympics happen once in several years. They spend all their time traning for that moment, sacrificing all their personal time for that moment. I met Krishna Poonia, who told me she had to stay away from her child for two years while preparing for an event. They should get back a lot more for what they sacrifice. But they don't.

Q: How much of a difference do you think "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" would make to the mindset on sportspersons?

A: Athletes are bound to be inspired by the movie. But I hope sports federations should start getting a lot more sensitive towards athletes and nurture them correctly. That can only happen if they don't have to stress about their livelihood. Hopefully, the film will make people think.

Q: Is there a fear that future roles would not be able to equal BMB?

A: No, not really. Fortunately, I've done work in the past that has been appreciated. It's crucial to shed skin and move on. But you're right. Milkha is a life-changing experience for me. It will always remain precious to me. But I can't allow myself to rest on this role alone. My next film is Saket Chowdhary's "Shaadi Ke Side Effects" with Vidya Balan. We're more or less done. It's a completely different planet from BMB, like Mercury and Pluto.

Q: What was it like shooting with Vidya?

A: It was like returning to a world that I associate with. To some extent doing "Shaadi Ke Side Effects" helped me to get out of Milkha's skin. Within two months of shooting BMB, we moved to this film. It's a very sweet script...It's a wonderfully sweet script. And Vidya was a terrific co-star.

Q: Did you ever imagine your career would pan out in this exceptional way?

A: I don't think one can ever script one's life. I don't allow myself to be bogged down by self-expectations. But it will have to be one thing at a time. If I am directing, then I won't be acting. Actors have done both simultaneously in the past. I've tremendous respect for them. I can't. As for singing, it is an extension of my acting vocation.

Q: When are you directing next?

A: I don't know! I have to give myself that space to decide what I want to do. At the moment it's very important for me to spend time with the family.

All films need not have social message: Tashu Kaushik

Tashu Kaushik, busy wrapping up Telugu political drama "Reporter", about the state of journalism in the country, feels all films need not address a social issue because people watch movies for entertainment.

"I personally feel all films need not address a social issue. Audiences come to watch movies for entertainment. I'm sure nobody would like to be lectured for hours on some sensitive subject. As a cinema lover, I personally like entertaining films," Tashu told IANS.

"I'm fine if once in a while a film comes along with a social message. But such films should address these subjects subtly without making it preachy. Even a film like 'Rang De Basanti' earned criticism from a small section of the audience for its debatable climax," she said.

In "Reporter", Tashu is paired opposite Ramkee. The film is being directed by Mahesh Katti.

"We've tried to present journalism from a different point of view. Our effort is to prove that pen is really mightier than sword," Tashu added.

Farhan Akhtar is requesting the state government to waive the entertainment tax on his "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" so that it can reach out to a much larger section of moviegoers.

"There is a procedure, which the production needs to follow. According to us, the film qualifies that," the 39-year-old said here Wednesday on the sets of "Dance India Dance Super Moms".

"We don't apply for every film, but (applying) for this film because we want it to reach to those for whom ticket prices are high and who wait for it to come on TV. So, they will also get to see it in the current atmosphere," added the actor.

Farhan plays the title role in "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag", a biopic on Olympian athlete Milkha Singh. The film, which came out July 12, has reportedly earned over Rs.40 crore.

Farhan and the film's director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra met Maharashtra Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat to seek tax exemption for the film Wednesday.

Making the film tax-free will augment the footfall in theatres, feels Farhan.

"A lot of schools, which want to show the film to the students, are also calling us. So, if the film is tax-free for them, it will be beneficial. Besides, a percentage of the collection of the film also goes to Milkha Singh's foundation and it will also benefit," he said.

Sonam Kapoor, Divya Dutta and Prakash Raj also feature in small roles in the film.

Actor Vinay Pathak, who so far has impressed the audience with his superb comic timing, will make a serious appearance in the upcoming comedy "Bajatey Raho".
