Action not glamourised in 'NH10': Director

Director Navdeep Singh says the action element in his movie "NH10" is marked by how real it is.

The film stars Anushka Sharma and Neil Bhoopalam.

"Anushka and Neil did workshops together and I must say their chemistry looks great in the film. As far as action is concerned, it is not glamourised in this film. It's very realistic action and Anushka took training for that," Singh told IANS.

A thriller, "NH10" is co-produced by Phantom Productions, Eros International and Clean Slate Films. This is Anushka's debut production venture.

While it has been said that "NH10" is a dark film, Singh says it's because "reality in small towns is dark".

"Our reality itself is dark, but I would like to say the reality in small towns is so dark that it gets difficult to capture it on the small screen. And as far as the message in the film is concerned, I feel every film has its own message in it -- and that is for the audience to see," he added.

No clarity yet on 'Bangalore Days' remake

0
0

The fate of the Tamil and Telugu remake of Malayalam blockbuster "Bangalore Days" is still unclear despite the association of popular names like Nithya Menen, Sri Divya, Rana Daggubati, Arya, Sharwanand, Simhaa and Varun Tej.

PVP Cinema and Dil Raju jointly acquired the film's remake rights last year. But since then, there has been no official announcement on the development of the project.

"The makers are on the lookout for suitable actors who could be part of both versions of the film. Instead of casting different actors to be part of the Tamil and Telugu versions of the remake, PVP is planning to rope in actors who are popular in both the industries," a source from the film's unit told IANS.

The latest buzz is that actress Nayantara has been roped in to play an important role.

"It's too early to talk about the cast because nothing has been finalised yet. The makers will officially announce the cast along with the director soon," said the source.

"Bangalore Days" was one of the biggest Malayalam hits of 2014. It was the story of three cousins who move to Bangalore from Kerala.

I have three scenes in 'Fast and Furious 7': Ali Fazal

Actor Ali Fazal, who has just bagged a role in Pooja Bhatt's production "Love Affair", has no qualms in admitting that his Hollywood debut, "Fast and Furious 7", will feature him in just three scenes. He says if actors project more than what they deliver, that's when they get criticised.

"Fast and Furious 7", featuring Hollywood giants like Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson, is coming to theatres in April.

Often, when an Indian actor has featured in a Hollywood film, he or she faces criticism for the length, visibility or importance of their role.

Asked if his case is going to be different, Ali told IANS: "I have three scenes in the film. I haven't said otherwise, nor do I want people to expect more. It's an integral part, and an important one. I liked it so I did it."

He is as blunt as it gets when he said: "We get criticised because we project more than we deliver."

"We don't need to...Tom cruise can't come and replace Salman bhai (Salman Khan). He will be welcomed if he does a cameo in 'Dabangg'...Simple, it's the same," added the "3 Idiots" actor in an email interview from Mumbai.

Seen in films like "Fukrey", "Sonali Cable", "Bobby Jasoos" and "Khamoshiyan", Ali has now landed a role in "Love Affair", to be directed by Soni Razdan.

He says he's "looking forward to the part" as "it's a very challenging role".

News is that he has replaced Arjun Rampal in the film.

How well do you take the fact that you were not the first choice for the role?

"I didn't even know about the film...I felt rather lucky to get this role...I cleared my other commitments immediately. But with a new actor, the dynamics do change," he said.

What's the role all about, and when do you begin shooting for it?

"We begin this month. I can't say much about the role at this point. The movie does have a lot of unseen drama I am looking forward to. It breaks the conditioning of our society on certain matters. Bold one," said the 28-year-old, whose career is going great guns.

Quoting megastar Amitabh Bachchan, Ali said: "Nothing can stop perseverance and hard work."

So, the young and talented actor, who says "moviemaking is his passion", is "having a good time".

"I think in all this race and competition, we actors forget how to have fun."

Nevertheless, he is doing his best to choose his scripts well.

"I am humbled at the fact that I always get great support and reviews from my critics, but it's the film that requires to be good enough for it to work. The audiences are sharper now. Scripts and directors make great actors, not the other way around," he said.

Age not a concern for acting: Pooja Kumar

0

Age is not a concern says actress Pooja Kumar, who made a comeback to Tamil filmdom at the age of 36 with Kamal Haasan's spy thriller "Vishwaroopam". She says the journey in the industry matters to her the most.

"I feel age has nothing to do with acting. Even Sridevi and Hema Malini are still acting, aren't they? I think I still have about 30 years to go before I have to worry about age. I think for any actor, what matters is the journey in an industry," Pooja told IANS.

Pooja, who made her Tamil cinematic debut in "Kadhal Rojavae" way back in 2000, will next be seen in "Uttama Villain", which also features Kamal in the lead.

She admits she has changed a lot since "Vishwaroopam"

"I've changed a great deal. You know the good thing about acting is that it keeps changing. What worked for you as an actor yesterday may not work tomorrow. And the experience of being an actor changes you so much because you're playing different characters in each film," she said.

Pooja is also looking forward to the release of "Vishwaroopam 2".

Sudhir Mishra dedicates 'Aur Devdas' to Saratchandra, Shakespeare

0
0

Filmmaker Sudhir Mishra, who has completed a long schedule of "Aur Devdas" in Lucknow, says he has decided to dedicate the film to Bengali novelist Saratchandra Chatterjee and English playwright William Shakespeare.

"I'm dedicating the film to both Saratchandra and Shakespeare. Though my film is a take on Saratchandra's 'Devdas', it moves completely away from the original text. Still my film is born out of Saratchandra's novels.

"It then moves into Shakespearean territory, no particular play, but all the Shakespearean tragedies about the virus of ambition and the lust for power," Mishra said.

In truth, adds Mishra, the film has little connection with either Saratchandra or Shakespeare's works, and yet there's a very deep-rooted connection.

"If they were to see my film, they may not recognise their work in 'Aur Devdas'. But I know where I've been inspired by them," he added.

Curiously, this is the first occasion when Mishra has referenced his cinema to literature. "I have never done a literary adaptation before. It's a new experience and one that I enjoyed."

'Hey Bro': Written for Ganesh's self-satisfaction (IANS Hindi Film Review)

0
0

Film: "Hey Bro"; Cast: Ganesh Acharya, Maninder Singh; Directed by Ajay Chandhok; Rating: 1/2*

Think David Dhawan's "Judwaa". Think Milan Luthria's "Kachche Dhaage". Think "Main Khiladi Tu Anari".

Wish in this aborted comedy, rudely ripped off from the above sources, somebody had given some thought to creating humour out of a plot that seems to have been written only to accommodate choreographer Ganesh Acharya's ample frame.

What do you do with a size extra-large choreographer who wants to play the lead? Simple! You write a comedy about a fat man and juxtapose his avoirdupois against an extra-fit man, preferably a close kin.

So brothers, they are. Twins so unlike each other the laughter should flow automatically.

Or so the troubled brains behind this dimwitted comedy must have thought. If the truth about laughter be told, it flows effortlessly only when the humour is integral to the plot and the actors believe in the material they are given.

The role must come first. The laughter would follow.

"Hey Bro" takes the opposite route and expectantly loses its way to reach a dead-end. It tries to generate laughter out of a plot written for the choreographer's self-satisfaction.

The plot about non-identical twins hinges on two unlikely brothers thrown together for a series of adventures. It would have worked if the two unlikely siblings possessed the charm and screen presence of Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan in "Main Khiladi Tu Anari".

Given the woeful lack of genuine intelligence and basic common sense, the entire farcical edifice crumbles to the ground.

Not one performance in this work of ouch-art is anything but cringe-worthy. The direction is strictly about placing the camera at an angle where Fat Bro (Ganesh) can be pitched against Thin Bro (Maninder) in a way so that they look like they're posing for an ad propagating a crash-diet plan.

Alas, the plan crashes with every passing moment. With each episode you get the sinking feeling that the actors are going to embarrass themselves even more.

And they don't disappoint.

Choreographers are better left behind the camera.
