I made khaki uniform glamorous: Kavita Kaushik

$

0

TV actress Kavita Kaushik says it was much before Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn made khaki popular with their cop roles in "Dabangg" and "Singham", respectively, that she glamourised and popularised the uniform on the small screen.

“For seven years, Chandramukhi Chautala made the audience laugh with her fearless nature and perfect comic timing. My character in the show made the audience realise that the police station is not a boring place,” Kavita told IANS.

“It was way before films like 'Dabanng' and 'Singham' came. I was the one who made khaki uniform glamorous and sexy before Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn did,” she added.

After entertaining the viewers as aggressive and bossy Chandramukhi Chautala in "F.I.R" for years, she took a break from the show three months ago, but now she is making a comeback.

The 32-year-old, who started her stint on "F.I.R." in 2006, is "excited" to be back on SAB TV's comedy drama.

After she quit "F.I.R.", the show took a 20-year leap and "Chak De! India" fame actress Chitrashi Rawat joined the cast as Chandramukhi's daughter Jwalamukhi, also a police officer.

"I am very excited to be back on the show, it's like coming back to my family. Apart from her perfect comic timing and bindaas attitude, Chandramukhi will be seen doing more stunts, action sequences and donning more get-ups," said Kavita.

"The show will complete 1,000 episodes very soon and I have slipped into more than 800 get-ups so far for my character. I guess this is the highest anyone has ever done on the small screen," she added.

At the beginning of this year, Kavita took up another comedy show "Tota Weds Maina".

If her character in "F.I.R." has been loud, "Tota Weds Maina" saw her playing a shy and demure girl.

The actress said Maina is just the "opposite" of Chandramukhi, adding: "Chandramukhi is very naughty, she is an extension of Kavita."

"I am very naughty and sarcastic. Sarcasm is a part of me. I am very funny and I am not scared of things, so Chandramukhi was something like me," she added.

The actress was also part of dance reality show “Nach Baliye 3”, in which she had participated with her ex-boyfriend Karan Grover.

When asked whether she would like to participate in any reality show, Kavita said: “No, reality shows are money-making business. The participants are paid and the judges are paid. It's all about making money, nothing else. I participated in 'Nach Baliye 3' because they were offering good money."

What else do you have in your kitty?

"I am doing a film called 'Democracy Pvt. Ltd.'. It is a political satire," said the actress who has been part of shows like "Kutumb", "Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii" and "Kumkum".

The Tamil version of Suriya Sivakumar-starrer "Singam 2" has been declared a hit, while its Telugu dubbed version titled "Yamudu 2" has registered the highest opening for a movie featuring the actor in Andhra Pradesh.

Both versions of the film released worldwide July 5.

While "Singam 2" raked in Rs.9.25 crore on its opening day in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka, the Telugu dubbed version "Yamudu 2" collected Rs.3.75 crore in Andhra Pradesh in the opening weekend.

"This is the best ever opening for a Suriya film in Andhra Pradesh, especially because after all his recent dubbed films in Telugu turned out to be duds," trade analyst Trinath told IANS.

Reportedly made on a budget of Rs.45 crore, "Yamudu 2" directed by Hari Gopalakrishnan, is the sequel to "Yamudu". It also features Hansika Motwani and Anushka Shetty.

A head injury during the shoot of "Bang Bang" in Phuket is what landed Hrithik Roshan at the Hinduja hospital, says his father and filmmaker Rakesh Roshan.

The 39-year-old underwent a successful brain surgery at Mumbai's Hinduja Hospital Sunday afternoon.

Rakesh Roshan told reporters: "He was shooting for 'Bang Bang' in Phuket, Bangkok. He was doing a stunt where he had to put a jet on his feet and go 30 feet high in the sky and then dive down in the water."

"So when he rehearsed, he fell the wrong way and banged his head a bit, which he didn't realise. That started his pain and he started taking pain killers, thinking it will get fine in three to four days because something similar had happened during 'Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai' also."

The pain subsided, but only to return a month later.

"Hrithik finished shooting in the next eight days and he came to Mumbai. The headache was still there, so we had a CT scan done but nothing showed in it. Then he was on medication. So the pain decreased, but it started increasing gradually in the past four weeks," said the senior Roshan who has just finished shooting "Krrish 3" with his star son.

It was on the night of July 5, a day before he was scheduled to fly to Prague, the Czech Republic, for the next schedule of "Bang Bang", that Hrithik complained of severe pain.

"Friday night (July 5) he told my wife (Pinki) that 'I am not comfortable and something is wrong inside'. So we took another CT scan and MRI. On Saturday morning (July 7) we got them done and then we were told there is a blood clot," said Rakesh Roshan.

Hrithik was diagnosed with chronic subdural haematoma and was admitted to the Hinduja Hospital July 7 evening, and next day he was operated upon.

Being directed by Siddharth Anand, "Bang Bang" stars Katrina Kaif opposite Hrithik. The film is expected to feature some brilliant stunt sequences and is being shot across Europe.

The shoot of the third schedule of the movie has been moved forward for Hrithik.

Makeover can make or break people's image: Mansi Kapadia

$

Makeover can make or break a celebrity's image, says stylist and designer Mansi Kapadia, the expert who has styled actors Neil Nitin Mukesh and Richa Chaddha's looks in their forthcoming film "Ishqeria".

Debutant director Prerna Wadhwan went behind the camera to make "Ishqeria", a romantic drama about a small-town girl and a city guy.

"This is my first movie. I have styled many TV actors in the past. I feel styling makes or breaks a person's image, so it has to be done with utmost care," Kapadia, based in Mumbai, told IANS in an e-mail interview.

In "Ishqeria", Neil plays a rich reserved guy who belongs to a dysfunctional family, while Richa will be seen as a simple, shy small-town girl who falls in love with Neil and tries hard to look fashionable to impress him.

"Keeping in mind Neil's character, I chose sweaters and collared tees in pastel shades with denims and chinos. The look goes well with his character."

"For Richa, I picked up denims, flouncy tops and salwaar-suits in bright shades. You will also see her in soft fabric dresses in few scenes," said Kapadia.

Praising Neil, she said that he looks "nice" and "can carry off anything with ease".

"His outlook suited his character. But Richa has always done mature characters in the past and this is for the first time she is playing a different character. I dedicated my mind and soul and gave attention to minute details for her new avatar," she added.

Before finalising the wardrobe and the right looks for the lead actors, Kapadia read the script.

"Prerna had a vision. She was clear about what she wanted. So after reading the whole script, we sat with references and got an image made of the characters," she said and added: "Prerna has an open and honest approach to her work and I enjoyed working with them."

Although she has found a foothold, Kapadia admits facing a lot of rejection from actors while styling them.

"When we style a person we keep in mind a lot of things like his personality, attitude, physique and skin complexion. Yes, opinions differ and it is an uphill task," said Kapadia, who feels Sonam Kapoor is the most stylish Bollywood celebrity.

She carved a niche for herself by styling participants for reality shows like "Indian Idol", "Dance India Dance" and "Master Chef". Now, Aamir Khan, Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif are on wish list.

Manyata Dutt hopes "Lootera", which released on the same day as her husband Sanjay Dutt's "Policegiri", also does well at the box office as it is like a family film for her.

While Vikramaditya Motwane-directed "Lootera" has been co-produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and and Phantom Films, "Policegiri" was T.P. Aggarwal and Rahul Aggarwal's production venture. Both the films came out Friday.

"I hope it ('Policegiri') does well and 'Lootera' also does well. Ekta (Kapoor) calls me 'bhabhi' and of course, Sonakshi calls me 'bhabhi' and bhaiya to Sanju. So that is also my family film. It's good there is no competition, both are different films. I hope both do well," Manyata said here at a theatre.

Sanjay completed "Policegiri" before serving his remaining three-and-a-half-year jail term in the 1993 Mumbai blast case.

Manyata is also happy with the promos of Sanjay's forthcoming film "Zanjeer" remake, which stars Ram Charan Teja, Priyanka Chopra, Mahie Gill and Prakash Raj.

"Promos are good and Ram Charan is a very good actor, Apoorva (Lakhia) is a very good director. He had done 'Shootout at Lokhandwala' with Sanju and again he is like family to us. Sanju is looking good, he has evolved as an actor," Manyata said.

"Zanjeer 2" is a remake of the 1973-hit by the same name that featured Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan in lead roles.

Thanks to the problems like fatness, bad skin and stammering, debutant actor Tanuj Virwani, who will soon be seen in "Luv U Soniyo", never thought about getting into acting. He nurtured the dream of becoming a scriptwriter or a director.

Tanuj is "Ek Duuje Ke Liye" fame actress Rati Agnihotri's son.

But one fine day he changed his mind and decided to pursue acting. He recalls how his mother thought he was playing prank when he broke the news of signing a film to her.

"I woke up one fine day and I decided to be in front of the camera. I didn't even tell my mom at that time. I decided on my own. In fact, after signing the film when I got my signing amount, I went to mom and said that I am becoming an actor. I gave her the cheque and she thought it is one of my stupid pranks," said Tanuj.

Former model and VJ Keith Sequeira, who will soon be seen in "Sixteen", a film based on teenagers, says even though it contains some profainities, it can be enjoyed by parents and children together.

"There is no such thing in the film that kids can't watch with their parents. As for parents, I would like to say that you will feel comfortable watching the film. Yes, the language is bad at some places, but we have only told the truth," Keith said here in an interview.

"If you won't accept it, then you would be lying to yourself. Kids do use different language at home and outside. We have also done it, but then we realised and changed," he added.

Directed by Raj Purohit, "Sixteen" also stars Izabelle Leite, Wamiqa Gabbi, Mahak, Highphill. Hitting theatres July 12, it talks about teenagers who lose their way and fall into wrong habits.

Keith also advises parents to give time to children for proper upbringing.

Wear bright lip colours in monsoon

Getting ready for a casual evening or a corporate event - try bright and bold lip colours that go well with casual, corporate or ethnic wears.

Makeup artist Niti Luthra says neon colours like hot pinks, corals, red, orange are very much in trend.

"Neon shades are perfect for monsoon. Shades like corals, hot pinks and ruby red work well with every outfit. But avoid gloss, as it makes the look stickier," said Luthra.

Luthra feels a woman should be aware of the best ways to apply a lip colour as it can make or ruin the looks.

"First, apply a lip balm, then outline your lips with lip pencil and smudge it with a lip smudger. Then fill in the colour," she said.

The makeup artist also suggests that one should apply long lasting lipsticks, which are non transferable and smudge proof.

"Avoid applying cream based lipsticks and glosses. For longer effect, one can use lip fix by mixing it with lipstick," she added.

Versatile actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who changed the definition of hero with his films, says now dark men are being appreciated in Bollywood.

"Now audience is ready to see all kinds of films and accepting different actors post 'Gangs Of Wasseypur'. Even Dhanush is being appreciated in 'Raanjhanaa', so now it's time for dark men. I am happy that dark men are being appreciated in Bollywood (films) by the audience."

In showbiz, grooming, styling, fitness and good looks play an important role, but conventionally not good looking Nawazuddin has made a mark for himself with his acting skills.

Pride - a quality aspiring actors shouldn't possess: Anisha Ambrose

$

0

Actress Anisha Ambrose, who is making her debut with upcoming Telugu action-drama "Alias Janaki", feels that for a long-lasting career, aspiring actors shouldn't develop pride and climb the ladder of fame with humility.

"It's important to remember that fame comes with responsibility and therefore one shouldn't develop pride. Besides success, any wannabe actor should also have humility for a lasting career in filmdom," Anisha told IANS.

"Take Amitabh Bachchan, for instance. He is so down to earth even when he is on top and that's what makes him so successful. I think this is something every actor should keep in mind," she added.

Anisha, who never wanted to be an actor, grabbed the opportunity when it knocked on her door.

"I posted a few of my pictures on one of my photographer friend's Facebook page. The makers of my film saw my pictures and called me for auditions. I had never dreamt of becoming an actor, but when I got the opportunity, I gave it a shot and was pleasantly surprised when I got the role," said Anisha, who has a Master's degree in finance.

Do you think you were roped in for your looks?

"Looks are important to survive in the industry, but I don't think it is the only criteria. If you are an actor, then acting comes first. If beauty is all that matters, then one should be in modelling," she said.

Outsiders only get to hear negative things about fildom, she says.

"I was very skeptical initially because we got to hear mostly negative things. We heard about controversies, breakups, casting couch and what not. But, there are certain production houses and people who work with a very professional outlook," she said.

She is happy to work with Neelima Tirumalasetti, who is producing "Alias Janaki", which also features Rahul Venkat in the lead. It is being directed by debutant Dayaa K.

"I'm glad I got to meet someone like Neelima madam. Despite being a woman, I liked the confidence and professionalism in her. I knew starting my career with her would mean that I would be ready to face anyone in the industry," said Anisha.

Besides "Alias Janaki", Anisha also has "Areyrey" with the same makers in the pipeline.
