Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj, who has adapted three of the most popular tragedies by William Shakespeare into films, is now planning to turn three of his comedy plays into films.

"I think you can adapt any William Shakespeare play into a film. I want to do 'King Lear', 'As You Like It'. But I mainly want to do his comedies and I might do a trilogy of his three comedy plays," the 49-year-old said here Tuesday.

Bhardwaj was speaking at the launch of his books based on his three Shakespeare adaptations - "Maqbool", "Omkara" and "Haider."

While "Maqbool" was an adaptation of "Macbeth", "Omkara" was inspired by "Othello".

His latest offering "Haider", which stars Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, and is coming out Thursday, is based on "Hamlet".

Bhardwaj did not reveal the names of the plays he plans to pick up. His mentor Gulzar's 1982 cult comedy "Angoor" was also based on one of Shakespeare's plays - "The Comedy of Errors".

Jimmy Kimmel is Most Dangerous Cyber Celebrity of 2014

International comedian and host Jimmy Kimmel has topped the Most Dangerous Cyber Celebrity of 2014 list, released by computer security company McAfee.

'Jimmy Kimmel' searches online yield a nearly one-in-five chance of landing on a malicious site. The research found that searching for the latest Jimmy Kimmel pictures and downloads yields more than a 19 percent chance of landing on a website that has tested positive for online threats, such as spyware, adware, spam, phishing, viruses and other malware.

This research is conducted annually since the past eight years to find out who among popular culture has the riskiest personalities on the web.

Kimmel, known for late night show "Jimmy Kimmel Live" has replaced Lily Collins as McAfee’s most dangerous celebrity to search for online.

He is the second male to find his way to the top spot following Brad Pitt in 2008.

This year, DJ Armin van Buuren takes the number two spot, and Ciara, the third. Celebrities like Blake Shelton, Britney Spears, Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi and Chelsea Handler, Flo Rida and Christina Aguilera round up the top 10.

Cyber criminals often take advantage of the public’s fascination with celebrities to lure them to sites laden with malware, which enable them to steal passwords and personal information.

“Most consumers are completely unaware of the security risks that exist when searching for celebrity and entertainment news, images and videos online, sacrificing safety for immediacy,” Gary Davis, chief consumer security evangelist at McAfee, said in a statement.

“Cyber criminals capitalise on consumers’ attention to breaking celebrity news and leverage this behaviour to lead them to unsafe sites that can severely infect their computers and devices and steal personal data," Davis added.

Big B remembers Hrishikesh Mukherjee as a "genius"

$

He knew how to say the "simplest of the stories" in the most exciting manner and his sense of budget was exceptional too, says megastar Amitabh Bachchan while remembering late maestro Hrishikesh Mukherjee on his birth anniversary.

Mukherjee's 92nd birth anniversary was Tuesday and Big B just couldn't stop reminiscing about the times he'd spent with the legend.

“It is today (Tuesday) the birth anniversary of my godfather in the industry, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, a master and a genius in his own way. His mastery over the middle-of-the-road cinema has still to be replicated. He knew how to say the simplest of the stories in the most exciting and attractive manner,” the 71-year-old posted on his blog Tuesday.

“Indeed, simplicity was in his demeanour and in his living. There was never any ostentatious elements in his storytelling, his filming, or in his narration. He never wanted to go the route of the many large productions and the extravaganza that accompanied them.

“His films revolved around that typical middle-class home, its problems and its issues. Human emotions were his absolute forte and he could bring out emotions in the most non emotional manner,” he further added.

Bachchan, who played many memorable roles in Mukherjee's masterpieces including “Anand”, “Mili”, “Chupke Chupke”, “Bemisaal” and “Namak Haram”, also believes that the filmmaker was “an editor of extreme merit”.

“He worked with the great Bimal Roy, in that capacity, and learnt his own craft and style from Bimal Da. Often he would narrate moments he spent and learnt, from this formidable filmmaker.

“Dressed in his typical kurta and pyjama and sandle, he would drive in sitting on the front seat of his Fiat, the older model, his only belongings being his chess set and later on when he suffered from extreme pain in his legs, a stick,” he said.

Big B also praised the legendary director for his exceptional sense of budget.

“Constrained, and wise in his manner of set and film design, he would make his films in a tenth of the budget of other typical so called blockbusters.

“Most of his work was in his most preferred studio - Mohan Studios - a very large complex, now a very large high rise. Mohan Studios must be having the most fascinating stories of cinema in India. Bimal Roy, Prakash Mehra, Hrishi Da of my time all functioned from there,” said Amitabh who also shares how Hrishida started calling him “Maharaj”.

Big B was so closed to Mukherjee, that he informed him about his decision to marry Jaya. And why not, the director had made them a hit pair by casting them in his successful films like "Abhimaan", "Mili" and "Chupke Chupke".

“When Jaya and I decided to get married, he was the first person after our parents, whom we met to inform of our decision. Him and Khwaja Ahmed Abbas, my first film director,” he said.

Big B also can't forget the time when he met the icon on his hospital bed.

“During his last days he was in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) in hospital. I had gone several days to see him, but did not want to see him in the condition he was. Then one day I did. His entire body riddled with tubes and wires, of all kinds of machine … eyes shut and the ventilator heaving his body to breathe.

“Suddenly he woke up. His eyes opened. He saw me and his face brightened! Through all the tapes and bottles and wires his eyes beckoned me to come closer to him. When I did, he with great effort, pulled out his hand away from all the pipes and tubes on them, gestured me to bend down, and then with that weak trembling hand, put it on my head and asked me to leave ...

“The next day he passed away,” he said.

Won't say I've replaced Riteish: Krushna

$

Riteish Deshmukh was seen in the first two parts of "Kyaa Kool Hain Hum" franchise. For the third instalment, Krushna Abhishek has been finalised, but the actor doesn't like it when people say that he has "replaced" the original actor.

"I am doing the third part of 'Kyaa Kool Hain Hum' franchise. Riteish is not doing it this time. So, I will be seen with Tusshar (Kapoor) and Aftab (Shivdasani).

"Riteish left the film because I think he doesn't want to do sex comedy anymore. I don't know the reason, but won't say I've replaced him," he told IANS.

Prior to this, Krushna, who shot to fame with "Comedy Circus", had featured in slapstick comedy "Entertainment", which was earlier offered to the "Grand Masti" star.

"Riteish was to do 'Entertainment'. I've met him a couple of times... He had come for promotion of 'Grand Masti' on 'Comedy Circus'. He said I can't do 'Entertainment' and he told the makers to take me in the film. There were tongue twisting lines and he believed I could do it better," he said.

Krushna describes the situation as a happy "coincidence".

"I hope he gets so busy that he turns down six, seven more films and recommends me," said the Krushna, who will soon be seen as an acting teacher on sitcom "Comedy Classes".

His wish might actually come true as there are reports that he might replace Riteish in "Housefull 3".

When asked about the same, he refused to comment on it saying he hasn't singed on the dotted lines, so he doesn't want to "talk about it."

While his presence in "Housefull 3" is still uncertain, he is sure about the genre of films he wants to act in.

"No one will come to theatre if I do a solo film. I am being practical. I want to do good and big films. I don't want to do solo hero films, maybe because I don't have the confidence. I don't want to take risk immediately.

"After doing two to three hit films, I will try something. I want to do comedies right now. If I do serious roles, people will think I am crazy," he said.

The 31-year-old feels "lucky" as age is by his side.

"Had I been 40, I would've panicked. Right now, I can do films like these for five more years and later I can do something different like 'Gandhi' or 'Dev D'," he said.

Ramesh Sippy is mischievous with me: Hema Malini

$

0

Hema Malini and director Ramesh Sippy are working together after almost 40 years and the actress-politician says he is still the same and is very mischievous with her.

The duo have given hits like "Andaz", "Seeta Aur Geeta" and "Sholay" in the 1970s.

Would they again generate the same hysteria with their fourth outing together titled “Shimla Mirchi”, which also stars Rajkummar Rao?

"It's hard to say from so early in the shoot if the film would turn out to be as special as our earlier films. I am working with Rameshji after nearly 40 years...We picked up the threads of our association as if the big time-gap didn’t happen in-between," said Hema Malini.

She says the director has a very special way of bonding with her.

"He is very mischievous with me. There is a glint in his eye and a secret smile that hasn’t faded with time. He is still the same. Shooting with Rameshji is still a lot of fun,” she said.

If reports are to be believed, the story is about how a single mother (Hema Malini) and her daughter (Rakul Preet Singh) fall in love with the same man.

Quite a bold departure from what she has done so far.

"It isn’t as if I haven't done any bold films. I did films like ‘Rihaee’ and ‘Lal Patthar’ where I played unconventional characters. However, ‘Shimla Mirchi’ is not a bold film. It's a very sweet, tender and endearing film about human relationships. I haven't yet started shooting with the youngsters. But I am looking forward to it,” she said.

Initially, the actress could take only three days off from her political work to shoot in Shimla. She intends to continue with her political career.

"Although a majority of time is now taken up by my work for my constituency in Mathura, I will continue doing an occasional film, maybe one every year. I am first an artiste and then a politician."

“In fact, I got a chance to be a MP because of my name in cinema. And I should never forget that. People in my constituency ask, ‘Hemaji, when do we get to see you in another film?'," she said.

The Dream Girl, who hasn’t faced the movie camera for a year now, says Ramesh Sippy made her an offer she couldn't resist.

"Rameshji insisted. And when I heard the script I knew why. At my age, actresses don't get such important roles that easily,” said the 65-year-old.

And the actress, who last produced “Tell Me O Kkhuda”, has decided to never go into film production again.

"I lost loads of money on every project that I've produced so far. So thanks, but no thanks. No more film production for me. I'll act in selected films. The rest of my time would be devoted to my constituency,” she said.
