Please! Don't put Rs.100 crore pressure on us: Priyanka

0
0

"Mary Kom" witnessed an impressive opening and the film's lead actress Priyanka Chopra doesn't want the biopic to be pitted against biggies. She says that "our film is already successful", and hopes "it sets an example that even female centric films can do well".

When asked if she feels the film will enter Rs.100 crore club, she said: "Please! Don't put such pressure on us. Ours is a small film and don't compare us with big boys."

"Our film is already successful and I only hope that it sets an example that even female centric films can do well. I don't know what our destiny is, but I don't want to put such pressure on our film," said the actress who has won appreciation from all quarters for etching out the role of boxing champion M.C. Mary Kom convincingly on the big screen.

Directed by Omung Kumar, "Mary Kom" came out Sep 5 and till Tuesday it has collected Rs.38.95 crore at the box office. The film is reportedly going steady. However, there was dip on Monday owing to Ganesh Visarjan in Mumbai, which makes for 40 percent of the total market share, said a source from the production house.

According to Priyanka, the film has "opened well and that is a huge relief for me. Now let's see how long does it sustain in the second week."

The actress, who has turned producer with "Madamji", which is being directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, says she is yet to understand the number game, but hopes to learn on the job.

She said: "I am a creative person and I get confused with the number game. I have a very strong team. Eventually when you make a film, it will be a learning experience."

Meanwhile, "Mary Kom" is riding ahead on positive word of mouth, and the makers are confident that since English language Bollywood entertainer "Finding Fanny" is a niche offering it may not eat up the box office share of "Mary Kom" when it hits the screens Friday.

I'm crazy about Indian culture, says French composer

0

Does Finding Fanny music sound different to your ears? It's the result of the creativity of French composer and multi-instrumentalist Mathias Duplessy, who composed for the film sitting in Paris.

"I love to work here (in India), the people here are great and the (entertainment) industry is growing fast. I'm crazy about Indian culture and also because quality of work is so important to people here," Duplessy, who has worked on Indian films in the past too, told IANS in an interview on phone from Mumbai.

He was in the entertainment capital of India recently to talk about the tunes he has created for this week's release "Finding Fanny", a movie about five oddballs on a road journey.

To create the "Finding Fanny" song "O Fanny re", he collaborated with Sufi singer Mukhtiyar Ali, who has penned the song. They don't understand each other's language but their love for music brought them together to create the songs which are 'desi' at heart but European in their sound and feel.

Sample "Shake your bootiya" and "Mahi ve" from the Sony Music album to know what that means.

"Finding Fanny" fell into Duplessy's lap via director Homi Adajania, whom he had met four years ago.

"I felt a lot of passion in him about his story and characters, and I came down to Goa from Paris to understand the locations. It has a very Portuguese feel to it.

"So I took inspiration from Portuguese, Italian and French music of the 1960s and 1970s to create tunes for the film," said the composer, who enjoys working with filmmakers who are contributing to the new wave of Indian cinema.

Duplessy, who's popular for knowing how to play as many as 40 instruments, has earlier contributed to Indian films like "A Fakir of Venice", "Mumbai Cha Raja", "Peepli Live" and "Delhi in a Day".

He believes the "evolution of cinema" has created a "big chance" for global music artists to use their expertise in India.

"For long, people used to think there's only the Bollywood style of music in India. But gradually, there's this another face of cinema that's coming up and it's encouraging a new way of thinking," said Duplessy, who has grown up listening to the tunes of Zakir Hussain and Ravi Shankar, and has composed for animated movies, theatre and dance shows the world over.

Goa-based model Gail Nicole Da Silva, who was placed third in the Femina Miss India 2014 contest, bagged the best National Costume title at Miss United Continent 2014, thanks to the innovative dome-style sari designed by Melvin Noronha.

Gail was announced the winner of the title Sunday. The first and second runner-ups are Miss Panama, and Miss Mexico, respectively.

The theme chosen by Noronha for the yellow-coloured sari was carnival of Indian toys and festivals. The three-tier dome like garment celebrates the mind of an Indian child and and its contribution to the global education system and historic artistry, read a statement.

With extensive and intricate handmade detailing along with 3D effects, the upper part of the abstract sari gown was made of a custom textile fabric containing several cartoon characters from Indian comics, multimedia and press.

The bottom dome of the sari, ascending in size, flaunted traditional toys of India like Kondapalli and Channapatna along with handicrafts. It also had hand painted dancers with 3D Indian art and Mughal windows.

The backpack was a combined design of India’s pride - National tree (Banyan tree), National bird (Peacock), National animal (Tiger) and National flower (Lotus) along with a woman holding her child with a book (representing the importance of a mother and her teachings in the Indian society).

For the choli, the designer used hand-painted cartoons depicting images of famous Indian musicians.

If the headgear featured local handicraft and bead work, it also represented Indian women as the princess of the multi-cultural nation.

The final round of the pageant is scheduled to take place in Guayaquil, Ecuador Sep 13.

Singer-actress Shibani Kashyap concentrates a lot on her fitness and says that the best approach to a healthy lifestyle doesn't just involve focus on one's physical appearance but also on the well-being of the mind and soul.

“I follow a very strict fitness regime. I do yoga everyday because I feel fitness is not only about looking good, but also how you feel in your mind and soul,” Shibani told IANS.

Toiling for hours with excessive use of make-up can have harmful effect on the skin. But the singer says that she blends detox therapy and spa-treatment to counter it.

“My beauty mantra is regular detox therapy and indulging in spa once a week. It brings glow to your face and body. It is essential to get rid of the toxins which gets into your body through alcohol and pollution or food,” the singer said.

“The moment shooting gets over, I scrub my make-up off as one should use as little make-up as possible,” she added.

Asked to give some fitness tips, she listed the basics: “Start your morning with a glass of vegetable juice, drink loads of water and avoid fried food. Try to have dinner by 7.30 p.m. as the food that we eat after 8 turns into fat. If you are having a late dinner, try to stick to salad or nuts.”

Shibani is currently seen on TV on Star Plus's "Ek Veer Ki Ardaas...Veera".

Comparisons are really unfair: Priyanka Chopra

0
0

Priyanka Chopra says that biopics on sports stars make them a household name, therefore, it is unfair to compare the monetary benefits.

Priyanka has played boxing champion M.C. Mary Kom in "Mary Kom", which collected Rs.38.95 crore in five days of its release.

Now a section of people are talking about the disparity between the incomes of Priyanka and Mary Kom.

Upset with the comparisons, Priyanka said: "It is very tragic that everybody watching the film had no idea who Mary Kom was and that she was a five-time world champion before we announced the film.

"So you should look at the fact that a film like this or 'Paan Singh Tomar' or 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' pick up icons and put them on a stage of the entire nation where today Mary being a relevant sports star, is getting the dignity she deserves," the 31-year-old said here Wednesday at the Usha Hab store.

"Secondly, you have no idea of the remuneration I have made. I have worked really hard on the film. I have no idea why actors are pointed fingers at for being paid for the films," she added.

Directed by Omung Kumar, "Mary Kom" released Sep 5 and talks about the struggle and journey of the Manipuri boxer.

Priyanka says the film is very close to her heart.

"They don't get the dignity they deserve, forget about the money. One of the biggest reasons why this film was made and why is it so close to me is because Mary is a woman, and her career almost got over because she decided to get married and have children. Why should that happen to women?" Priyanka said.

"It is unfortunate but an actor's life cannot be compared to everybody else's. We live in a country where poverty and wealth live side by side. The comparisons are really unfair. I am grateful that I did a film that has brought Mary to the position which she should have had in the first place," she added.
