Now, Honey Singh wants to focus on 'durable' work

0
0

Rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh, who rustled up hit number "Aata majhi satakli" for "Singham Returns" in 30 minutes, says quick work means "compromising with quality" and that he now wants to focus on durable compositions.

"I couldn't say no to the 'Singham Returns' track, although I had no time for it. But for some reason producers and heroes in Bollywood feel I can deliver a track at the shortest notice. 'Kuch bhi kar do, kuch bhi nikaal lo,' I am told," said Honey from London.

"You end up compromising with quality when you work in this way. Yes, the 'Singham Returns' song was composed in half an hour. I am not happy with the way it was done," he added.

But the track was an instant chartbuster garnering millions of hits.

"I had the 'Singham Returns' song ready in half an hour. I flew back to Mumbai for a day to do the video with Ajay (Devgn), Kareena (Kapoor) and the children and flew back to London within a day. This is not the way to do durable work."

However, he says Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar gave him ample time to create "Lungi dance" in "Chennai Express" and "Party all night" for "Boss" respectively.

Honey is certainly flattered by the demand for his work in Bollywood, but not at the cost of quality.

"I need time. Please don't rush me. Please don't tell me to deliver a song in hours. And please don't say, 'Kuch bhi chalega'. That's an encouragement for compromise and mediocrity," he said.

Actress Priyanka Chopra has been nominated by many to take up the ALS ice bucket challenge, but she doesn't seem to be interested.

The challenge involves dumping buckets of ice water over one's head to spread awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig's disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.

Apart from Hollywood stars like Tom Cruise, Robert Pattinson and Nicole Kidman accepting it, Bollywood stars like Akshay Kumar, Bipasha Basu and Abhishek Bachchan also took up the challenge.

But Priyanka is not joining the league.

“Thank u for all the nominations but... RT @shrishtiarya: Newsreader Beautifully Shuts Down Ice Bucket Challenge pedestrian.tv/news/arts-and-culture/newsreader-beautifully-shuts-down-ice-bucket-chall/600a2c06-7dec-4f27-a74a-1ab99a534c75.htm …… (sic),” the “Don” star tweeted Sunday.

The link shared by her shows an Australian newsreader Lincoln Humphries, who firmly shuts the idea down. Humphries acknowledged the good that the ice bucket challenge has done, then suggested some other things that can be done to make a difference, including spreading the love around to other deserving causes like cancer and fresh water charities, and not wasting so much ice.

Earlier, Sonam Kapoor had refused to take up the challenge after being nominated by “Fukrey” fame Pulkit Samrat.

“@PulkitSamrat already made a donation!! Not dumping water :-( waste of resources!”, she had tweeted.

Hollywood actress Pamela Anderson has also refused as she said she can't support an organisation that does testing on animals.

Om Puri misses golden era of Hindi cinema

Versatile actor Om Puri, who has maintained just the right balance between commercial and parallel cinema, misses the good content on celluloid and rues that movie-making is now reduced to just money-making.

"The best films were made in the 1950s and 1960s,” Puri, who has just won accolades for his work in Hollywood venture “The Hundred Foot Journey”, expressed his views during a group interview.

Remembering the era dominated by the likes of Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand, the 63-year-old said: “It was the golden period because subjects were great, nice meaningful songs were there... (but) these days people forget new songs within two months.”

"Cinema was more responsible in the 1950s and 1960s. Cinema has become irresponsible today and today movie-making means money-making," he added.

Although he admits that the industry is equipped with better technology, yet stylish and commercial cinema dominates hard-hitting subjects.

"Of course, some good films are being made these days, but I feel hard-hitting films are not really being made, and most of the films are considered in terms of business.

"Stylish films are being made, technically we have developed a lot. But in terms of subject, the depth has been reduced," said the actor, known for his work in films like "Ardh Satya", "Maachis" and "East is East".
