Actress-businesswoman Preity Zinta, who has filed a complaint against her business partner and ex-beau Ness Wadia for alleged molestation, has not taken a bold step for first time. Be it off screen or on screen, she has often showed her daring side.

Here is a list of bold acts of Preity:

* In 2000, Preity entered the industry with a controversial film - director Kundan Shah's "Kya Kehna" - which had her playing an unwed mother. The film got delayed and Preity was first seen in Mani Ratnam's "Dil Se", when she shocked movie buffs and made Shah Rukh blush by asking him if he was a virgin.

* In 2001, she played a prostitute who turns a surrogate mother to Salman Khan's child in Abbas-Mustan's "Chori Chori Chupke Chupke".

* In 2003, she stunned the nation by testifying against the underworld in court. No other Bollywood denizen male or female had dared to do so.

* In 2005, Preity filed a defamation suit against a Mumbai tabloid for publishing a transcript of a tape allegedly featuring the voice of Salman Khan speaking in less than respectful tones about her.

* In 2007, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi accused Preity of being the cause of her marriage with Shekhar Kapoor breaking up. Preity retaliated by calling Suchitra "unstable".

* In 2008 Preity bought the Kings X1 IPL cricket team and decided to focus more on building her cricket team than her acting career.

12 years after Vipul Shah's directorial debut "Aankhen", about a bunch of blind men undertaking a dare devilish bank heist, the film's producer Gaurang Doshi is all set to roll with the sequel. And this time Anees Bazmee will helm the project.

Doshi reportedly had a fall-out with Shah during the making of "Aankhen". They parted acrimoniously and the sequel remained uncertain for all these years.

Interestingly Bazmee had a fall-out with Shah during the making of "Singh Is Kinng".

Confirming this Bazmee said: "Yes, Gaurang and I have met over 'Aankhen 2'. I am right now in Ahmedabad for a function. As soon as I return to Mumbai, we'll finalise the details."

The original film was top-lined by Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Sushmita Sen, Arjun Rampal, Paresh Rawal and Bipasha Basu.

Doshi said: "Twelve years seems like a long time to sit on a sequel. But what to do? So much has happened since then. 'Aankhen 2' will have a completely new cast."

"But I can assure you, the actors would be as exciting this time as they were in 'Aankhen'. God willing we'll make a stupendous success," he added.

Even if you're wearing the most elaborate and stylish hat for a day out at a race course, it's important to emphasise on your hairstyle so as to not kill the look.

Celebrity hairstylist Paul Edmonds, who has over 30 years in the industry, explains the must haves hair tips that one should try before stepping out with your hats on, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

* Hair normally looks better worn back and away from the face, especially if it your hat has a large brim.

* If your hair is long and you want a simple quick hairdo, try putting your hair in a low ponytail and split the hair behind the band down the middle and pass the tail through itself and pull tight to get a soft, rolled up look.

* Long hair can also be plated and finished with a binding of ribbon.

* If you have shorter hair, tuck the sides back or leave them out until the hat is on and then fold them back and grip under the hat.

* Always practice wearing a hat before the occasion as panic does not help give a great style.

* If all else fails, get a professional blow-dry.

I am a big fan of Katrina Kaif, would like to compose for her: Rahat Fateh Ali Khan

Pakistani qawwali maestro Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, known for giving hit Bollywood numbers like "Jiya dhadak dhadak" and "Sajda", is happy that record label Universal Music India came forward to support his album "Back 2 Love". He says that it is high time music companies also invested in independent artists.

Rahat's "Back 2 Love" has come after a seven-year gap. He says that quality work takes time, but also adds that delays happen because record labels usually prefer Bollywood projects to private albums.

"After a long time a company has taken this step. Bollywood (music) is a big investment and the kind of promotion that is done, a regular album can't match it. An individual artist can't spend so much and promote it in the same way. The artist needs a company," Khan told IANS in a telephonic conversation while travelling in Pakistan.

This is not the first time a Pakistani artist has collaborated with an India-based music label. In the past, Atif Aslam and the band Jal were supported by Tips, while Adnan Sami teamed up with T-Series.

There are other musicians from across the border who collaborate with both Indian filmmakers and music labels.

Meanwhile, Rahat, nephew of late legendary Pakistani qawwali singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, compares music to love and says good music, like love, takes a while to bloom; hence it took him so many years to create the album.

"Love takes a lot of time. Similarly, to create good music and to produce it, it takes time and people also take time to accept or reject it. The songs are easy to listen to and the album is a compilation of 10 romantic tracks," said the 40-year-old musician who has performed several times in India.

His last solo album was "Charkha", which released in 2007. But he promised his fans that the next one will be out sooner.

"I am working on just qawwalis for mainstream audiences. It has the purity of music in qawwali form. I will release it soon and won't take so long," said the artist, who hails from Faisalabad in Pakistan.

While all songs are worth listening to, he especially takes pride in his new album's fusion number.

"A song like that has never been made earlier. I don't think anyone has ever heard of something like it - the composition is pure ragas and the music created is western. It's called 'Fusion in Raag Champa Kali'," said the singer, who has sung for Hindi film stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan.

Rahat's India connection is strong.

He has even worked with Indian artists like Shreya Ghoshal and music composer brother duo Salim-Sulaiman Merchant on "Back 2 Love". Asked whom he would like to next team up with, he said: "Shreya Ghoshal. She is my all-time favourite."

The duo has given Bollywood hit tracks like "Teri meri" and "Teri ore" in the past.

She would probably share same sentiments, but there are a few music artists who don't get excited at the thought of singers from across the border working here.

"If you see realistically, when a guest arrives in your house, the host doesn't consider the guest bad, but the residents think otherwise," he said.

Irrespective of what a few people feel about singers like him, he is all set to come back to India to perform, which he unfortunately couldn't for a while after a 2011 incident when he was charged with violating foreign exchange rules.

"Hopefully, by the end of 2014 or the beginning of 2015, I will perform in India," he said.

He also hopes to compose a song for Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif.

"I am a big fan of Katrina Kaif. I would like to compose for her," said Rahat, who sang "Teri ore" for Katrina's movie "Singh Is Kinng".

Mohit was right choice for 'Ek Villain': Sidharth

Actor Sidharth Malhotra, who will be seen in a grey character in romantic thriller "Ek Villain", says he agreed to do the film because of director Mohit Suri, an expert in the genre.

"Firstly, I loved the story of the film. Secondly, Mohit Suri, the director of the film, I think he is most suited for such genre," Sidharth said here in an interview.

"Had this script involved a new director, I would not have gone for the film. I think Mohit was the right choice for the film. I was so excited because there was so much new to be done and explored," he added.

The 29-year-old's dark and intense character in the film is an antithesis to his romantic and lover boy image in his previous two films - "Student of the Year" and "Hasee Toh Phasee".

Sidharth is confident that the audience will be surprised to see him in such a character.

"I think when people do not expect you to do something unusual and that time only you come out with something like that, a surprise factor is likely to come up and this is what I like the most," the actor said.

Why did you choose to play such a grey character so early in your career?

"There is no time bounding that I should play such character today or tomorrow. Whether I do this film or the films of other genre, there is no guarantee whether that film will work or not.

"I think every film involves a risk," he added.

"Ek Villain", an Ekta Kapoor production, also features Shradhha Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh.

It will hit the theatres June 27.

Actor-producer Saif Ali Khan has gone beyond his usual performances for “Humshakals”, says Sajid Khan, director of the forthcoming multi-starrer comedy.

In “Humshakals”, Saif plays three different characters, all named Ashok, and all living in London. They create chaos, confusion and funny mix-ups.

The film also stars Riteish Deshmukh and Ram Kapoor in three different avatars.

"At first, I wasn't sure if Saif will agree to let his hair down, and go so much beyond his usual performances for ‘Humshakals’. But he has not just surprised me, he has actually amazed me with his acts."

"It was difficult for him and Ritesh to switch from one self to the other in the span of a single day. Directing him made me laugh out loud so many times," Sajid said in a statement.

Saif, who has shown his comic side in films like “Dil Chahta Hai” and “Hum Tum”, was excited too.

"Sajid Khan knows how to make a comedy, one that attracts audiences from all age groups and backgrounds. When I was offered a chance to enact three crazy but seriously funny, and likeable Ashoks, I took this up with keen interest.

"Going beyond the usual is always exciting for an actor, with 'Humshakals', doing that has also been a lot of fun," he said.

Bollywood ‘badshah’ Shah Rukh Khan’s family on microblogging site Twitter Tuesday crossed a staggering mark of eight million.

Now, the "Chennai Express" star, who was recently named the second richest actor in the world, is second to megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who has over nine million followers.

Shah Rukh joined the online platform in 2010, and his new benchmark has surpassed the followers of his contemporaries Aamir Khan (7.17 million) and Salman Khan (7.18 million).

Via his Twitter account, Shah Rukh shares his day-to-day thoughts, updates on his film shoots, experiences and travel plans. The 48-year-old also gets philosophical often, but most of his tweets reflect his closeness to his children - Aryan, Suhana and AbRam.

The actor's IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders recently won the seventh edition of the cricket league.

He is neck deep into work - the shooting of “Fan” and “Raees” and promotion of “Happy New Year” will occupy his schedule, as will Rohit Shetty’s new movie. Later in the year, there’s also the Champions League Twenty20.

“He hardly has time for a breather,” a source close to the superstar told IANS.

The one that has the best content will succeed: Big B

$
0
0

For Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who is entering the fiction space on TV with "Yudh", no proposition is safer. He says it's a "gamble you have to take when you are in this field" and that "only best content will succeed".

In 2000, when the big screen's big hero decided to descend upon the small screen as the host of "Kaun Banega Crorepati", people were doubtful about his decision. But his risk paid off and over the years the game show's popularity hasn't diminished at all.

Now, once again his decision to do fiction show for TV is raising questions.

When asked is it a safer preposition, he said: "Nothing is safe in this world. Whether you are doing little creativity or little performance on stage, or doing cinema or any kind of art, how would you know what the result is going to be?"

"We take sufficient precautions but at times we fail, at times we succeed. So this is a gamble that you have to take when you are in this field," he added.

TV's wide reach is well known and Amitabh says that comparatively the turnover of the television industry is way higher than the movies.

"My knowledge on this is limited. But all I know is that the turnover of TV in India is three times more than cinema, so approximately if the turnover of cinema is Rs.10,000 crore.... in TV it's about Rs.30,000 crore."

"The reach and the effect of TV in India have just about started. Everyone criticised us for being too excessively populated, but it is that very factor, which is beneficial to us."

"It's the people who are running it. You have 300 million people watching it and it's an enormous figure. This is an incredible amount of channels in one country. It needs to be given more importance and taken more seriously because it is very challenging. The one that has the best content will succeed."

Co-produced by Amitabh's production company Saraswati Creations and Endemol India, the show is likely to go on air in July.

The show, which will see Big B as the owner of a construction company, also stars Sarika and Kay Kay Menon among others.

A six-degree black belt holder in martial arts, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar's dream is to make martial arts a compulsory subject in school for both boys and girls, saying it is as important as physics or maths.

"I feel a certificate in martial arts is more important than a certificate in physics or mathematics," Akshay told IANS in an interview.

"I am in talks with the government to have martial arts as a compulsory subject for boys and girls. I look forward to the day every student would learn martial arts for at least three years. It is my dream," he added.

“I want to put my money in it. For me, martial art is not about earning money. It has taught me a lot. I have my own tournament. I invite students from all over the world. I even send them to Japan. I want kids to be taught martial arts in school,” he said.

He practices what he preaches and teaches his son Aarav martial arts.
