Saif's ladylike look in film amuses Kareena

Actress Kareena Kapoor is said to have laughed a lot when she saw her actor-husband Saif Ali Khan don the look of a “sexy woman” for a scene in Sajid Khan's forthcoming movie "Humshakals".

A source says that when the actor got ready with his costumes and make-up and came out of his van, Kareena just couldn’t stop laughing at him.

“Kareena who was on the sets of 'Humshakals' for a few days when we were supposed to shoot for the cross-dressing scene. She was quite excited to see Saif dress up like a woman. And when Saif stepped out of his vanity van, Kareena busted out laughing and just didn’t stop after that,” said the source from the production team.

Apart from Saif, the movie also stars Riteish Deshmukh, Ram Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Tamannaah and Esha Gupta.

Produced by Vashu Bhagnani and presented by Fox Star Studios, the movie will release June 20.

Raj Babbar back to ‘Tevar’

0

After the end of campaigning for the Lok Sabha polls, Congress candidate from the Ghaziabad Lok Sabha constituency and veteran Bollywood actor Raj Babbar has returned to the shooting of his film “Tevar” in Pune.

In “Tevar”, he plays an honest police officer.

"I want to stress the fact that the cop I play is an honest cop. It's very essential to show India's politics and bureaucracy in a favourable light. Not all politicians and civil servants are as corrupt as they're shown in our films," said Babbar.

In fact, one of the reasons why Raj Babbar is taking the break between the end of the election campaign and poll results May 16 as an opportunity to shoot his pending portion for “Tevar”, is because of the positive light in which his character is portrayed.

Apparently, the prolific actor who has played villainous parts in many films in the past, including his notorious career-making “Insaaf Ka Tarazu”, is done with playing negative characters in films.

"In my 35-year film career, I've played it all, the good, bad and the ugly. I have no craving to be in films just for the heck of it. There has to be a good reason for me to do a film. My constituency keeps me busy otherwise," he said.

He finds key changes in moviemaking now.

"Filmmaking has become a very time consuming process now. Earlier everyone did their work and left. Now during shooting, everyone crowds around the monitor to mull over every shot. That's a great way to work. But it doesn't suit my schedules.

“I've just a small role in ‘Tevar’, which I agreed to do because I wanted to portray our much-maligned bureaucracy in a good light. It's a two-day shoot. Then I return to Ghaziabad for the election results," he said.

The actor-politician says the election campaign has been exhausting but satisfying.

"Unlike most other candidates from the entertainment industry, I am not in my constituency to campaign and move on. Ghaziabad is my home, my life. God willing, I'll be elected again,” he said.

No Bollywood for Isabelle Kaif?

Katrina Kaif’s sister Isabelle who makes her acting debut in Jean-François Pouliot’s “Dr. Cabbie”, a film about an Indian doctor moonlighting as a taxi driver in the US, is said to have given up plans of pursuing a Bollywood career.

“While Katrina has no interest in a film career outside Bollywood, her sister Isabelle who was supposed to join Katrina in Bollywood has decided against it,” said a source close to the family.

“It was felt by Katrina that the two sisters with similar personalities in the same entertainment industry can never work for the younger sister. Katrina doesn’t want Isabelle to end up being the poor man’s Katrina. The two sisters will pursue their acting careers in mutually exclusive domains,” the source added.

Hence, the family has collectively decided that Isabelle would pursue an international career vis-a-vis a career in Bollywood.

“Isabelle took on ‘Dr. Cabbie’ as a starter because it was not really an Indian film but a Canadian project. Although the title role is played by Vinay Virmani and Isabelle is not cast opposite him, she loved the script and wanted to be part of it.

“Also her co-star is Kunal Nayyar, who is a major diaspora actor abroad.”

However, the source adds that Isabelle had to audition for her part in “Dr. Cabbie” like any newcomer.

Isabelle’s co-star Vinay Virmani from “Dr. Cabbie” is all praise for her. “Isabelle is very good in the film. She has all the star qualities of Katrina, plus the advantage of being in no hurry to become a star,” he said.

Inclined towards Bollywood since childhood: Deana Uppal

0

Winner of beauty pageant Miss India UK 2012 Deana Uppal, who is the recently evicted contestant from stunt-based reality show "Khatron Ke Khiladi", had her eyes set on Bollywood since her childhood.

"I have been coming back and forth to India for sometime now. My parents were born in Punjab, so I feel India is home to me. I have always loved Bollywood since a young age, so I decided to work here as I enjoy the industry here more than Britain," Deana told IANS.

The actress, who made a special appearance in "Revolver Rani", is working hard on her Hindi diction. She has a few films on her plate now too - the 24-year-old will be seen in Yogesh Mishra's directorial debut "Life Non Veg", starring alongside Siddharth Bhardwaj of "Spitsvilla" fame.

"I am currently working hard on my Hindi and will continue to work in films this year and just take as they come. I have always been interested working in the film industry here. I feel more at home in India and I find Bollywood movies beautiful and exciting," she said.

Item songs are not the centre of attention for Deana, but if offered, she will happily accept them.

"I will be shooting an item song next week. Item songs are not my main focus but I feel if the song and production team is good enough, then there isn’t any problem doing one,” she said.

Talking about her experience on "Khatron Ke Khiladi 5", the model-turned-actress said it was glorious, but facing insects on the show helped her overcome her fear of the creatures partly.

"I had an amazing experience. I got to do things I never would have been able to experience without being on the show. A biggest fear of mine has always been insects. On the show, I stayed inside a plastic bag with cockroaches and other horrible insects for eleven minutes.

"I feel proud for overcoming that fear the most," said Deana, who went to Cape Town for the shooting of the celebrity show, hosted by filmmaker Rohit Shetty.

Due to their physical strength, boys on the show were Deana's major competitors and she feels contestant and dancer Salman Yusuff Khan has a fair chance of winning.

"I always found that boys had an advantage in this show because of their physical strength. I'm sure all the boys will be left in the final. Salman has a good chance of winning," said the actress, who lasted for only eight episodes of the show since her wildcard entry, but managed to make friends during her short stint.

"I befriended Teejay Sidhu, Debina Bonnerjee, Gauhar Khan and Ajaz Khan on the show. Ranvir Shorey wasn't welcoming to me and was quite rude, but he apologised to me in the end, so all was fine," she said.

Deana was also a part of Britain's reality TV show "Big Brother" 2013.

Director Siddharth Anand is ensuring tight security during the Abu Dhabi schedule of "Bang Bang". He has not just called for close to 30 security personnel on the set, but has also requested crew members to deposit their mobile phones at a counter before coming for the shoot.

A source close to the development said: "It is very difficult to control information during outdoor shoots. Siddharth is currently filming some of the most crucial scenes from the film in Abu Dhabi. Some of these scenes are part of the thrill in 'Bang Bang' and thus, Siddharth had no option but to ramp up security."

The source further said that the almost security personnel are maintaining "strict vigil for people with mobile phones".

"No mobile phones are allowed on set. A counter has been created where the crew are depositing their phones and taking it back after the day's shoot."

Jisshu Sengupta to romance Deepika on screen

Shoojit Sircar's next film "Piku", which already has a formidable cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Irrfan Khan and Deepika Padukone, just got more interesting. It now stars Bengali star Jisshu Sengupta in the romantic lead opposite Deepika.

Jisshu, who made his Bollywood debut opposite Ileana D'Cruz in a guest appearance in Anurag Basu's "Barfi!" would next be seen in Pradeep Sarkar's Hindi film "Mardaani", in which he plays husband to Rani Mukerji's character.

Sircar is said to have been keen to cast Jisshu opposite Deepika as the role suited him to perfection. However, the fact that Jisshu was being launched as a leading man by Yash Raj Films (YRF) put a question mark on Jisshu's presence in "Piku".

Jisshu showed Shoojit his Bengali film "Jaatishwar". Only then was Sircar convinced.

The excited actor said: "It's a big break with a director I really admire and with actors I really love. It has been my dream to work with Mr. Bachchan from the time I decided I wanted to be an actor."

"Irrfan-ji is another actor I truly admire. As for Deepika, isn't she everyone's favourite dream girl these days?"

"Piku" would take Jisshu to Mumbai in August.

Concentrate on fitness over body: Celebrity trainer

0
0

Didn't you feel like having your own set of six pack abs when Shah Rukh Khan flaunted his in "Om Shanti Om" or when Aamir Khan exhibited his eight pack in "Ghajini"? But celebrity trainer Shivoham, who has trained the likes of John Abraham and Ranveer Singh, says getting influenced to beef up like the stars can have negative effects in real life.

Bollywood stars get involved in strenuous workouts for their film roles and the requirement to play different characters makes them mould their body every now and then - something which is not possible for ordinary folks, said the CrossFit trainer, who was in the city for a six-day boot camp.

"Bollywood stars are also average people, but they do their training according to the role they play and it affects the body," Shivoham told IANS on the sidelines of his camp at The Park hotel here.

"Commoners do get influenced from Bollywood, but they need to understand that what celebs do is their profession and they get training 24X7. They are paid to look a certain level; so they do it in whatever way possible.

"But an average person needs to give it a good thought and actually do what can become part of the lifestyle, rather than gaining a particular body for just two or three months," he said.

Among the big screen stars, Shivoham, who has a gym in the country's entertainment capital, has also trained Aamir, Abhishek Bachchan and Kangana Ranaut.

Talking about female actors and their once-upon-a-time fantasy for the size zero body frame, the Mumbai-based trainer said it should be a no-no for anyone as it can have long-lasting side effects.

"Not only female celebrities, but women in general want to lose weight. They are fascinated with the concept of size zero, which according to me is waste. It is necessary to be healthy and fit," he said.

Shivoham is on a mission to popularise the concept of CrossFit, which he plans to take to several cities of the country.

Explaining the rationale behind it, he said: "CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide.

"Our programme delivers a fitness that is by design: broad, general and inclusive."

During the camp here, Shivoham made sure that every individual who was part of it went back with a smile.

"In the boot camp, we go through fundamental movements like the squats, overhead press, deadlifts, cleans and many other movements. It's a combo of weights, freehand and a lot of cardio.

"It's a very different kind of fitness experience and so not many people know about it," he said, adding that "word of mouth publicity" is essential for the brand of fitness he propagates.

Shivoham, who himself is well-built, believes fitness is a very relative term in India.

"Fitness is practised definitely way higher in other parts of the world. India is definitely getting aware of it, but it will take time," he said.

Indian rhythm all over US culture: Musician RedFoo (Interview)

0
0

Stefan Gordy, known by his stage name RedFoo, delivered what he promised by turning the capital and Mumbai into "party planets" recently. While the desi crowd enjoyed his maiden performance in the country, he says Indian beats are a popular part of the American culture.

The US electronic dance music disc jockey and rapper known as the co-creator of rapper duo LMFAO, RedFoo is no stranger to Indian music. In fact, he enjoys it.

"My mom was into spiritual stuff and yoga. I got a bunch of CDs of Ravi Shankar (late Indian sitar legend) and started listening to the rhythm and the hip-hop people would sample stuff. Indian rhythm...it's been all over American culture," RedFoo, who came here on a two-day tour, told IANS.

Organised by Metigon Enterprises Pvt. Ltd., his concert was held at Kingdom of Dreams Gurgaon May 10, and then he performed in Mumbai the following day.

He might have first set his foot in India just a few days back, but he has heard a lot of stories about the country and is happy that they indeed are true.

"You grow up in America and hear stories about India. You got the spiritual side and you got yoga and food...that part is true. The food is amazing...the spicy vegetables and curries. I've always heard that people here are so nice. It's true. Everybody here is so nice," said the music expert, who sports a unique Afro hairdo.

He says he likes Bollywood music too and hopes to work with Indian artists someday. There were rumours that he has been approached by Bollywood filmmaker Sajid Nadiadwala for his directorial debut "Kick".

Giving his word on it, he said: "I have not been working with him yet but I would like to work in the studio and come up with some great stuff. There are lots of talented people out here and I would like to work with them," said the artist.

RedFoo found the traffic here to be "crazier than in New York City" when he rode a bike on the street.

"I also saw a wild boar walking on the street minding his own business," said the party rocker, who wants to visit the Taj Mahal -- if not this time, probably the next time when he will hopefully return to India to perform with his nephew and the other half of LMFAO - Skyler Gordy, better known by his stage name Sky Blu.

The duo, who churned out hits like "Party rock anthem" and "Sexy and I know it" in 2011, is currently on a hiatus, but there were rumours that the rappers would come together for an India tour. However, later it was announced that they would perform separately.

"I don't know why they said we were coming together. We are still on a hiatus. I think that party music will live forever. I am just a vehicle for the party music...Anytime you get original people together, it's gonna be very exciting," he said.

He didn't rule out a reunion with Sky Blu.

"Maybe in future that will happen. Right now, we are focusing on our solo careers," said RedFoo, who grew up surrounded by music.

The son of Motown Record Company founder Berry Gordy Jr., says that music comes naturally to him.

"The feeling of it, being able to put together music and expressing what I am feeling...I have been influenced by music. I grew up listening to blues, jazz and all," said the musician, who enjoys the EDM genre specifically.
