Actors Ajay Devgn and Sonakshi Sinha were announced the worst actors of 2013 at the Golden Kela Awards held here Saturday. Even Aamir Khan won an award for his performance in “Dhoom:3”.

Now in its sixth year, the Golden Kela Awards honoured the worst in Bollywood at an event held at the India Habitat Centre here.

Ajay won the worst actor award for “Himmatwala”, which was also named the worst film and Sonakshi was cited for “R...Rajkumar”.

"In Bollywood today, the box office figures have no correlation to the quality of the film. Our sincerest hope is that 10 years down the line, the figures will be forgotten, while the 'Kelas' they got are remembered,” Anant Singh, creative head, Golden Kela Awards, said in a statement.

The honour for the worst actor in supporting role went to Aditya Roy Kapoor for “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” and Deepika Padukone, Jacqueline Fernandes and Amisha Patel jointly won the worst supporting actor (female) for “Race 2”.

As part of the special awards, Deepika also won Dara Singh award for the worst accent for “Chennai Express”.

The Kela for the worst director went to Sanjay Leela Bhansali for “Goliyon Ki Raas Leela...Ram Leela”.

The Baawra Ho Gaya Hai Ke award went to Aamir for “Dhoom:3”.

"Aamir Khan once said that he loves the Kela Awards, because all other awards are rigged. Wonder what he has to say about us now," quipped Singh.

“Dhoom:3” also shared the Ra.One Award for Worst Premise with “Krrish 3”.

Voters chose "Party all night" from “Boss” as most irritating song.

There were Anti-Kela awards too, honouring some of Bollywood's good efforts. They were given to four outstanding films - “Saheb Biwi aur Gangster Returns”, “Go Goa Gone”, “The Lunchbox” and “Shahid”.

Actress Sonam Kapoor, who has again teamed up with her actor-father Anil Kapoor and sister Rhea in "Khoobsurat" after "Aisha", says it's not easy to work with family members.

"It's more difficult to work with your family because they have high expectations from you... You have to be on your best behaviour, you need to be on time, remember all your lines....

"We had Kirron Kher, Ratna Pathak in the film, so it was amazing. I had a great time," Sonam told IANS.

She will play Mili in the remake of the 1980 movie "Khubsoorat", which starred Rekha. She says Rekha is incredible and she wants to be like her.

"I finished (filming) 'Khoobsurat'. It was amazing and will release this year. No, we don't have her (Rekha) making a guest appearance unfortunately, but she is one of my family's closest friends. We always need her blessings," said Sonam.

"That day when we were at the launch together she said let's take a picture so, that was our 'Khoobsurat' moment. It's so sweet of her to say that. She is incredible. I hope to achieve at least 20 percent of what she has achieved. She is awesome. I want to look like her," she added.

'Daddy' tough screenplay to adapt as play: Mahesh Bhatt

After "Arth", theatre and television actor Imran Zahid is now ready to adapt into a play another of Mahesh Bhatt's films -- "Daddy" this time -- about which the renowned filmmaker says it is comparatively a tough screenplay.

Directed by Mahesh Bhatt, the 1989 autobiographical film "Daddy" has Anupam Kher playing an alcoholic father battling his demons and his daughter's distrust. The highly acclaimed film marked the acting debut of Bhatt's eldest daughter Pooja.

Bhatt said: "Imran Zahid is on a high after tasting the success of 'Arth The Play'. 'Daddy' is a tough screenplay to adapt as a stage play. But Imran has the resolve to hit the bull's eye."

"Daddy The Play" goes on stage on June 21 and Imran would play Kher's role, while the hunt is on for a suitable girl to essay the daughter's role.

Imran is currently auditioning girls from Delhi University to play Pooja's part.

Said the actor: "It isn't easy to get into Mahesh Bhatt saab's soul or to find an actress who would feel Pooja Bhatt's anguish on stage. But we succeeded beyond our hopes with 'Arth'. Hopefully, we would have a winner this time too."

Being a foreigner in Bollywood has been positive: Evelyn Sharma

$
0
0

She speaks with an accent, but Evelyn Sharma's half-Indian and half-German lineage has given her an edge in the Hindi film industry which has warmed up to foreigners over the past few years. She says being a "foreigner" in Bollywood has been a boon for her.

Over the years, the globally popular Indian film industry has opened up to talented foreign beauties with open arms. Cases in point are Katrina Kaif (Britain), Jacqueline Fernandez (Sri Lanka), Nargis Fakhri (US), Elena Kazan (Russia-born German), Elli Avram (Sweden), Lauren Gottlieb (US), Hazel Keech (Britain) and Kristina Akheeva (Russia).

"It's been a positive (to be a foreigner in Bollywood). It is up to the directors - if they dress me up in western, I can carry off the look well, and I can also carry the traditional look in Indian wear for an Indian character," Evelyn told IANS over the phone from Mumbai.

In fact, this flexibility has opened more doors for the 23-year-old, who turned to acting after a stint in modelling for Britain-based brands.

She was born to a Punjabi father and German mother. Her father had died early. Only after she came to India three years ago did she find "a new side" to herself - a side which loves chai, parantha, biryani and "drama".

Evelyn's Bollywood career started with a bit role in the 2012 film "From Sydney With Love", where she played a foreigner. She went on to play a mix of 'desi' and 'videshi' parts in "Nautanki Saala", "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani", "Issaq" and "Yaariyaan".

Her role as the sexy and glamorous Lara Handa, a beauty without brains in "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani", caught Bollywood's 'No.1' comedy director David Dhawan's eye. He set his eyes on her for another such part in the forthcoming "Main Tera Hero".

She is awaiting the film's release April 4, but she is also upbeat about breaking free from this 'glamorous' image via another upcoming project "Bhaiyyaji Superhit".

"I play a cute, traditional, very desi girl in 'Bhaiyyaji Superhit'. After that, I also have my first solo heroine film, but I can give more details on that only later. However, it is a different genre from what I have done so far," she said, promising that there's much more to come from her.

She says it's a director's prerogative to visualise what character she fits best into.

"It depends on the perception of a director. If he sees me as a foreigner, I can play that, and if he sees me as an Indian girl, I can play that too. It depends on a script and a director's vision," she said.

For most, the Hindi language has been a challenge. And for Evelyn, who has mostly spent her time watching English and German films back home, it has been a stumbling block too.

"I am brushing up my Hindi. Both of next films have a lot of Hindi dialogues so I am doing two hours of training in Hindi every day. I am also practising yoga," said the fit actress, who loves how crazy Indians are "for their stars".

He has been wearing grease paint for over three decades and actor-producer Sunny Deol describes his journey as an actor "satisfying".

The 57-year-old began his journey with "Betaab" in 1983 and in the past 31 years, he has worked in about 90 films with the titles including some of the big hits like "Arjun", "Chaalbaaz", "Ghayal", "Damini", "Darr", "Gadar - Ek Prem Katha" and "Yamla Pagla Deewana".

Sharing his experience, he acknowledges that "acting is a very satisfying profession".

"As an actor you get an opportunity to portray different characters and experience different things. Acting is the best thing that happened to me. As far as a producer's job is concerned, it is to keep the team happy," said the actor, who recently featured in "Dishkiyaoon".

Recently released gangster drama "Dishkiyaoon" is actress Shilpa Shetty's maiden production venture and Sunny clarifies that he did the film because of its story.

"At times we do things because of relationships, but here the story was the reason I did the film. Earlier, Sanjay was supposed to play, then she wanted me and I liked the role so I did it," said the actor who had worked with Shilpa in his home production "Apne".

The Hindi trailer of southern superstar Rajinikanth's much awaited film "Kochadaiiyaan" was Sunday launched by megastar Amitabh Bachchan here.

"It's very difficult to find words and put it together, but I would like to say that a woman has directed it. Soundarya has taken a step forward and proved women in India are capable of doing their best," Amitabh said during the launch at a multiplex.

"Rajnikanth and I are very close to each other. We are like family... we have worked together in many films and he has been very humble. When we get time off screen, we discuss life and cinema," he said.

"It is unbelievable the way he reinvents himself. He has something new to offer to moviegoers. I would like to say that when the history of Indian cinema is written, it will be before 'Kochadaiiyaan' and after 'Kochadaiiyaan'."

WIFW 2014 grand finale: Kangana's oops moment on ramp

$

She may have walked with elan in Madhur Bhandarkar's 2008 release "Fashion", but actress Kangana Ranaut was unable to move forward smoothly as the showstopper for designer Namrata Joshipura at the grand finale of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) autumn-winter 2014 here.

The five-day fashion event concluded Sunday and the "Queen" star was invited to sashay down the ramp as Joshipura's showstopper.

With her curly locks tied up, Kangana made her entry in a strapless floor sweeping black gown with metallic embellishment on the side.

Just after taking a few steps, one could notice her struggling with her gown created by Joshipura. Nevertheless, Kangana gradually walked on the LED lit runway. After stumbling a few times, she slightly lifted her gown up with both hands to avoid herself from falling on the stage.

"I feel her show was good and I feel bad because I let her down," the 27-year-old told reporters here after the show.

The designer missed the chance to walk down the ramp with Kangana and take a bow, but she continued to be happy.

"Stuff happen. Kangana is larger than that. She walked for me and I am happy," said Joshipura.

Despite the mishap, Kangana was in some way delighted to be back on the fashion runway.

"It is nice to be here. Many years after 'Fashion' I am getting to walk on the ramp. I was a fashion disaster in 'Queen' and a fashion victim in 'Revolver Rani'...I love getting dressed and looking good for a change...I like doing shows," said the actress, who will be soon seen in "Revolver Rani".

And if it's as chic as Joshipura's show at the fashion week, anyone would feel honoured to be a part of it.

The show had a disc jockey and a drummer playing in coordination and before the models' entry, a few dancers in reflective suits, which matched the theme of the collection, gave an interesting performance.

Joshipura then presented her new range titled electron, which was inspired by the future. New techniques were used. Texturing was used as embellishment, leather palettes were created and twisted fabrics

were woven into surfaces.

There were long and short dresses, bodysuits, shorts and jackets in mostly black. Other colours included green, blue and red.

The knee length boots, gloves, gladiator headgear and metal piece on lips of the models, made the outfits more appealing.

Star moms shun showbiz to play perfect homemakers

$
0
0

Be it Hollywood or Bollywood, actresses put in everything to achieve success and stardom. But once they marry and have children, these glam girls prefer to be hands on mothers and say neither meaty roles nor red carpet perfect looks distract them from their domestic preoccupations.

IANS lists some of the star moms who are enjoying domesticity and give preference to their children over grease paints and arc lights:

Hollywood:-

* Julia Roberts: The Oscar-winning actress is a mother of nine-year-old twins Hazel and Phinnaeus and six-year-old Henry. She says she is okay with doing one movie a year as her children still need her to be around. She has no qualms about it as the "Pretty Woman" star has already made a mark in the film industry. Roberts, who has won prestigious awards like BAFTA and Golden Globe apart from Oscar, said that her family takes up a lot of her time and energy, but she is happy. She was last seen in Oscar-nominated film 'August: Osage County" in 2013.

* Kate Winslet: While many stars worked hard to get back in shape post pregnancy, the "Titanic" star, a mother of three, chose to spend time with her children rather than sweating out in a gym. Winslet, who gave birth to her third child last year, said that she wants to be healthy and be around for her children rather than concentrating on getting a flat stomach.

* Victoria Beckham: The former Spice Girls' band member and now a fashion designer considers her four children - sons Brooklyn Joseph, Romeo James, Cruz David and daughter Harper Seven - her world. She admits she has people to handle her tight schedule and everything revolves around the children. For instance, if there's a parents' night or an Easter bonnet parade or a nativity play, then she plans everything around that so that she can always be there for her kids.

Bollywood:-

* Kajol: Ever since the "Baazigar" star gave birth to her daughter in 2003, her fans have seen her less on the big screen. Kajol, who has a son too, made it clear that children are her priority. She recently told IANS in an interview that she can't dump them and go off to work. Like every mother, she feels her children need her attention. She also wants to see them grow up.

The wife of Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn feels that since he acts in at least four films a year, she is required to be at home to spend time with their children. Kajol, who has mostly played lead actress in films like "My Name Is Khan", "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai" and "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham...", has often made special appearances in recent years in films like "Student Of The Year", "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi" and "Om Shanti Om".

* Farah Khan: For the filmmaker, everything can wait if her three children - daughters Anya and Diva, and son Czar -need her. Currently busy with her next venture "Happy New Year", Farah once chose to stay back home and nurse her child who was feeling unwell. It clearly reflects her dedication towards motherhood.

* Karisma Kapoor: The actress, who entered the film industry as a teenager, used to feature in several films in a year. But after she became a mother in 2005, her presence on the silver screen began to decrease and she has no regrets. She was last seen in 2012 film "Dangerous Ishhq", which was a well-publicised comeback, but not a successful one.

She remains a devoted mother to daughter Samaira and son Kiaan, and has also penned a book on women. She was happy to be away from arc lights as she wanted to be with her children during their formative years and insists that her first priority will always be her kids.

* Sonali Bendre: She made a comeback with "Once Upon A Time Again" and declared that her first priority is motherhood and if she would get any time after taking care of her family, then only she would take up any work.

Acclaimed actor Manoj Bajpayee, who is returning to the small screen as the host of a new crime-based show "Encounter", says he has tried to give the narrative a touch of grandmothers' storytelling style.

"I am the anchor of the show, and we are trying to do something new with anchoring. The way grandmothers used to tell stories - where you could picture everything, that is what I have tried," the 44-year-old said here Sunday in an interview.

Manoj also said the show will give you the feel of watching a film.

"'Encounter' is about the famous encounters that have happened in Mumbai between police and gangsters. Every week, we will tell you about one encounter, it's history and will present it in a very interesting way. To simplify, it's going to be the fun of movies on TV," he said.

Meanwhile, on the film front, two of Manoj's movies are in post-production and he is very excited about them.

"One is 'Traffic' by Endemol and it is a brilliant film. I call it a social thriller. I guarantee that when you see it, you won't know when it started and when it ended," said the actor, last seen on the big screen in "Satyagraha".

"The second is 'Saat Uchakkey' by Neeraj Pandey's production house Friday Filmworks and the director is Sanjeev Sharma," he added.

"Encounter" goes on air on Sony Entertainment Television April 11.

Kangana goes to kinky stores in Europe for Revolver Rani!!

$

After seen as a simpleton in Queen, Kangana turns quirky and bizarre for Revolver Rani which releases immediately after Queen.

Set against the backdrop of political drama in rustic MP, Kangana plays a politically active local goon. And to portray the character, Kangana will be seen sporting quirky outfits for her role in the movie. In a not-done-before avatar, she is seen wearing dhoti pants with boots, funky glasses, metal accessories (guns included) and a tanned look. While the attire is quite wacky, some of them also include scandalous cabre kind of outfits.

But what got us hooked is the research and the shopping that went into creating these outfits. Apparently Kangana was travelling with her costume designer Gavin (who also designed her Krissh 3 look) and they went checking out kinky stores in the streets of Europe for getting the look right.

"Kangana's character of Alka, is crazy about clothes from Europe. She is also a bindaas and cool woman in the movie. We wanted to create a look that was a little futuristic and quirky and at the same time realistic. Kangana also had a strong idea of her character and her look. That really helped me a lot. After checking out those stores, we got excited and decided on inventing our own personal style.” says Gavin.

The most wackiest was the cabre kind of outfits that she has worn for a particular bedroom scene where she is showing off to Vir Das that her clothes come from Europe. Seen wearing a metallic bra, this outfit has been making talks ever since the promo went out.

“Yes, we went a little too intense with that. When she saw the outfit she loved it but was a little skeptical if it would be comfortable. So she wore it a few times to get comfortable but when the camera rolled, she was totally in control. It was a real bold move by her. But Kangana has the poise and attitude to carry it off.”,says Gavin.

While many would not have dared to do such a role or look, Kangana pulls it off with great ease and surprisingly makes it look fashionable.

We hear she even had her own inputs and personalized the look to make it look more bizarre.

“Her ideas and sense of style is as good as a designer. And she really understands her character.” adds Gavin.

Well, looks like her fans are always in for a surprise when it comes to her look in the movies and she rarely disappoints. Produced by Wave Cinema, Revolver Rani is directed by Sai Kabir and releases on 25th April.
