Can't make Rs.100 cr film with newcomers: Director Rohit Shetty

0
0

Rohit Shetty, one of the most successful directors of Bollywood and known for working with stars like Ajay Devgn and Shah Rukh Khan, says he will consider new faces when he will find the combination of a right script and fitting budget.

In his decade-long career, Shetty helmed the megaphone for nine films and most of his creations including the "Golmaal" series, "Bol Bachchan" and his last release "Chennai Express" turned out to be mega hits.

The common thread among them were that the films starred big stars like Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Shah Rukh Khan.

Asked about making a movie with newcomers, he said: "It depends on the budget, you cannot make a Rs.100 crore film with newcomers especially when it's not your money..."

"If I get a script where I feel that I need a newcomer and the budget is small or whatever, I will definitely do it. But I need to see the script, and I need to feel that, okay, now I can make the film with a newcomer," Shetty told IANS on phone from Mumbai.

In the last 10 years, he has been loyal to the action-comedy genre.

Be it "Golmaal" or "Singham" or "Chennai Express", they all are comedy dramas with a heavy dose of action. Shetty says he'll continue making such films so long as it doesn't come from "within" that he should switch to another genre.

"It should come from within me. If it comes from within, I will definitely do something else. But it shouldn't be like I have to prove a point that I can do something else. So, I will do something different when the right time comes," the 40-year-old said.

Success has been another constant for Shetty.

Asked if he fears failure, he said: "Yes, I am afraid of failure. When you start a project, there is always this fear how it will end. But that fear can encourage you if you divert it to a positive direction with your positive attitude and hard work."

"You need to analyse things. More than anything you need to have a positive attitude that you are going to do something good, that you are not going to harm anyone and you are going to give it your best. So, all these things do work," added the son of yesteryear action star "Fighter Shetty".

A passionate filmmaker, Shetty is also involved with television.

The director, who had previously hosted "Big Switch - Season 3", will be seen anchoring action-adventure show "Khatron Ke Khiladi" for Colors channel.

Has he reached the acme of his career?

"I think there is a long way to go. Every now and then the technique changes; so it's not that I have achieved those heights. Whatever I have achieved so far is just a part of the journey," Shetty said.

Celebrate V-Day with 'Gunday'

Different from the usual mush and romantic comedies, this Valentine's Day enjoy director Ali Abbas Zafar's atypical action thriller "Gunday".

Valentine's Day is celebrated every year on Feb 14 and the film is also coming out on the same day.

Featuring Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and Irrfan, "Gunday" made on an approximate budget of Rs.50 crore which includes promotions, will reportedly hit more than 2,000 screens across the country.

Trade analyst Rajesh Thadani is hopeful about the action thriller's box office prospects.

"The film will have a bumper opening. It might even cross Rs.100 crore," Thadani of Multimedia Combines told IANS.

Produced under the prestigious banner of Yash Raj Films (YRF), "Gunday" holds a lot of significance for its makers as it was the last narration that the late Yash Chopra, who started YRF, heard.

"It's a very special film for us because this was the last script that Yash Chopra heard. It's special for us to do the film because he really loved the script and he believed in it," Zafar had said earlier.

Set in the 1970s West Bengal, the film tells the story of two friends - Bala and Bikram - played by Arjun and Ranveer respectively.

The two grow from being small time inconsequential coal thieves to the most powerful black marketing mafiamen.

If the story is atypical, the actors also sport different avatars in the film. In fact, Ranveer and Arjun went many shades darker for the movie.

The plot fits well with the time it portrays and also includes the world of cabaret dancers with Priyanka playing cabaret dancer Nandita.

To look convincing on screen, the actress trained with French cabaret dancers for the song 'Asalaam e ishqum'.

Parts of the film have been shot in Kolkata and Durgapur in West Bengal. The makers also canned a song in Oman.

Arjun and Ranveer will be seen together for the first in "Gunday" and viewers would like to see their on screen chemistry after their crackling off screen bonding.

"'Hasee Toh Phasee' has collected Rs.18.5 crore net. India business only," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted Monday.

Karan Johar's Dharma Productions and Anurag Kashyap's Phantom Productions have jointly produced the Vinil Mathew directorial venture and the Rs.25 crore romantic-comedy came out on about 2,000 screens across the country.

One of the highlights of the film is the lead cast - Siddharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra.

Meanwhile actor Shekhar Suman's directorial debut "Heartless" starring his son Adhyayan Suman along with Deepti Naval and Om Puri, was released on the same day and it hit about 800 screens.

"'Heartless' has done the best out of the three. It will be close to Rs.75 lakh over the weekend. The other two are disasters,” said Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines.

Gautam Dutta, COO, PVR Cinemas, said that “Heartless” was marketed well and added: “The occupancy was around 70 percent.”

Take Zohra Sehgal's case as special, daughter to government

0

Reacting to a media report that the urban development ministry declined to give Zohra Sehgal a ground floor flat because she doesn't qualify under certain clauses, the veteran actress's daughter feels it is an insult to her and the case should be taken up as a "special category".

The 101-year-old actress lives with her daughter Kiran Sehgal, a renowned dancer, in a second floor house in south Delhi's Mandakini Enclave.

Zohra Sehgal is finding it difficult to climb stairs and move around due to ill health.

In 2013, Kiran had requested the culture ministry for the allotment of a ground floor government accommodation for them.

The ministry replied that her request has been forwarded to the urban development ministry. Later, news came that the ministry had declined this request.

"We have not received any official information from the ministry yet. We too got to know about this refusal through a newspaper report.

"It's extremely pathetic and doesn't speak very well of the government, given the fact that you have honoured Maa (Zohra) with the second highest civilian award, Padma Vibhushan," Kiran Sehgal told IANS.

"We have never asked the government to help us. When it got difficult to manage, only then we put across our request. It has become very tough for her, and with age it does get difficult," she said.

Kiran Sehgal also said she had first sent a request in 2011 to then chief minister Sheila Dikshit but nothing happened.

According to Kiran, there is a clause under which an artiste can get a government flat if he or she is below 60 years of age.

"I personally feel everyone needs help only when one crosses 60. So this clause should be completely removed. It's extremely silly and I strongly feel my mother's case should be taken as special," she said.

"She is living like a prisoner in her house. She can't move and when she has to move out, she has to climb stairs. She does that with great difficulty and almost cries," she added.

"For someone who has contributed so much to the world of entertainment, this treatment from the government is nothing but an insult," she added.

Treat yourself with good make-up session before heading out for Valentine's Day celebration, says an expert.

Make-up artist Vikkie Anand says there are a few components that one should keep in mind before planning a Valentine look:

* Eye make-up: Go for charcoal eye make-up instead of the usual smokey eye. You can go for bold look by shimmering your eyes too.

* Lip make-up: Crimson lip shade is another way to look bold at a V-Day party. It never goes out of style and helps to transform the regular look into a glamorous one.

* Hair trend: Curls are great addition to any hairstyle. You don’t have to make your curls big, keep things natural looking with soft loose curls.

* Skin tone: The important elements of instant skin treatment are cleansing-scrubbing-toning-moisturising. Face masks are very important for instant glow. Facial massage can further make yopur skin look radiant. Don't apply too much foundation and skip the face powder to avoid cakey look unless your skin is oily.

Actor-producer Ajay Devgn, who shies away from dancing, says he couldn't escape "Action Jackson" director Prabhudheva, who made him shake a leg in two songs.

"Prabhu made me work really hard for the film. He made me dance, which I generally run away from," Ajay told IANS.

"I have shot for two songs. We have total five songs in the film and the rest are yet to be shot and I don't know how am I going to do them," added the 44-year-old.

In the film, Ajay has teamed up with Sonakshi Sinha.

However, when asked about his role in "Action Jackson", he refused to divulge details.

He said: "It's too early to talk about it".

Recently "Action Jackson" was in the news for a controversy over its title, but Ajay said he has no idea about the latest development.

He said: "I have no idea about that issue. I have read it in the newspaper and I only have that much information. I think they are working on the legalities. I don't know what is the status."

Gordan Tanwani, the film's co-producer, had said he will not buckle under pressure.

Actor Arjun Kapoor, known to be a reserved actor, talks candidly about his relationship with his father and filmmaker Boney Kapoor. He says their bond got stronger on the sets of "Tevar".

Being helmed by first-time director Amit Sharma, "Tevar" is being produced by Boney and features Arjun and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead roles.

"Obviously the bond becomes stronger when you work together. It also becomes professional as we have our own opinions," Arjun told reporters in a group interview.

"I am getting time to spend with him now because I am an actor. He is my father and I love him," added the 28-year-old who plays a kabaddi player in the film.

Arjun, who debuted with hit film "Ishaqzaade" and then featured in "Aurangzeb", says his father has learned a lot about him while working with him.

"For eight days I did it and we had fun. He didn't know that I carry my food all the time and he discovered that for the first time. He has never been on the sets to see me. I have seen his work for the last 20 years, but he has never seen me working," he said.

"Last day, I gave a shot and that's the first time when my father came and gave me a compliment. He said, 'good shot' and that meant a world to me. It means a lot to me. This is something that underlines or defines my existence. So, the equation will never change, it will only get better and better."

Arjun is Boney and his first wife Mona Kapoor's son. Mona died of cancer in 2012.

The young actor, who has moved out of the family home, says staying apart from his dad doesn't affect his relationship.

"In the relationship there has never been a drift. He was not living in front of me, so that's a change. But, the equation, love, and emotion never changed at any point. I respect his choice. I am happy as well as he is happy," said Arjun.

Boney is now married to actress Sridevi and they have two daughters.

Meanwhile, Arjun is gearing up for his third release "Gunday", which is coming out Friday.
