Actress Malaika Arora Khan, who is busy judging "India's Got Talent", says on the big screen she will next be seen in Farah Khan's "Happy New Year". However, it will merely be a cameo.

"It's literally just a cameo and nothing more to it. I have always been part of Sajid (Khan) and Farah's film purely because they are friends. I have always enjoyed it. But I would like to clarify it's only a cameo in Happy New Year."

"Happy New Year" features Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah.

Malaika, who is also a movie producer, says it takes a lot of "hard work" to carry out that role well.

"Every time I go for a production meeting, it's a new ballgame for me. I sit with a pen and paper and make notes. The first year, all I did was signed cheques. Now I have got a better designation than just signing cheques," she added.

Malaika is credited as a producer of films like "Dabangg" and "Dabanng 2".

I did 'Gulaab Gang' because of Madhuri: Juhi Chawla

They have been Bollywood contemporaries since the 1990s but Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla have only come together now for "Gulaab Gang". Juhi says Madhuri's presence in the movie was a big draw for her towards the project.

"I did this film because Madhuri was there. I really did it because (I thought that) with this script, it will be amazing if we do it together. I remember saying to her on the first day that 'Madhuri, we will make it rock', and we have," Juhi said here at the launch of the song "Dheemi gati" from "Gulaab Gang" Friday.

What kept them away from working together for so long?

"I would say that earlier there were a few chances when we could have worked together, but at that time I didn't do the film because Madhuri was there in the films. I thought if she is there, then what would I do? Comparisons were bound to happen, so to avoid all that tension, I didn't do those films," she said.

However, now she is not worried.

"I am so glad that I am playing a villain in the film. So you can't compare the two of us. I neither had to dance nor sing. All that has been done by Madhuri," said Juhi, who essays a politician in the film.

Slated to release March 7, "Gulaab Gang" is inspired by a group of women activists in the Bundelkhand region and talks about women empowerment.

Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta to direct a woman centric film for Hollywood!

Sanjay Gupta, who was already juggling two films, Mumbai Saga and Khotey Sikkey, has to clear his schedule for a third. And the offer has come from LA. A Hollywood production house has approached Gupta to direct an official remake of a hit foreign language film.

When contacted, filmmaker Sanjay Gupta confirmed the news but refused to divulge the title of the original film or the name of his co-producer.

“I am contractually bound to not reveal the details,” he said. “All I can tell you is that it is a thriller like many of my previous films. But while the others were male-centric, this one has a woman protagonist and two important male characters. These guys approached me after seeing my body of work.”

The film, to be co-produced by Sanjay, will be made in Hindi and English. While Sanjay Gupta admitted that he might approach John Abraham, Abhishek Bachchan or Shahid Kapoor for the two male characters as it would be a welcome change for them too to not play the leading man, he was tight lipped about which actress he has in mind for the central role. “It’ll be a star but not the ones you are expecting. I’ll spring a big surprise,” he promised.

When the offer came he was in two minds about accepting it as he had planned to shoot his two big-budget multi-starrers back-to-back this year. But now, lured by the fabulous screenplay, he intends to push Khotey Sikkey and wrap this one in-between.

“I’ll finish it in one 35-60 day schedule. The city is important, we can easily film it in Mumbai. In fact, after struggling with the Mumbai of the 80s and 90s in Mumbai Saga, I would be happy to shoot the city as it is today,” he said.

He went on to add: “It is a universal theme with a taut screenplay that can be easily adapted to the Indian scenario. It won’t take me long to write it. I just need to work on the dialogue. It’s such a thrill to be finally doing a woman centric subject in Hollywood.

Impressed by its "powerful" storyline, veteran Telugu filmmaker Dasari Narayana Rao has picked up the distribution rights of forthcoming film "Minugurulu", slated for release Jan 24.

He said it will be "unfortunate" if audiences don't get to see it.

A film featuring 40 visually impaired children, "Minugurulu" is the story about how these children expose the wrongdoings of their warden in an orphanage.

"When I first watched this film in a private screening a few months back, I decided I should do something from my end to promote it. It has a powerful storyline and wonderful performances by these kids," Dasari told IANS.

"I thought the audience would be unfortunate if they don't get to see it. Hence, I decided to distribute it," he added.

The film, directed by debutant Ayodhya Kumar, will be released under Dasari's home banner Siri Media.

"The film was completed long back. It's high time that it releases right away before people stop talking about it. Several industry folks have also shared their feedback about the film. We are planning to release it in maximum number of screens in Andhra Pradesh," Dasari said.

Actress Juhi Chawla, known for playing bubbly, vivacious and lovable characters on screen, had her reservations about playing a villainous politician in her forthcoming film "Gulaab Gang".

But she is glad that she finally took up the role in the movie, which also stars her contemporary Madhuri Dixit.

"When I read the script, it was great, but by the end of it, I said 'Why will I do this role? People will not believe me if I do this role'. But Finally, when I took it on, I thought it will be fun to do something different," Juhi told reporters here during a promotional event for the movie.

"I am really glad I am being accepted as a villain today. I was scared whether people will accept me this way or start laughing on my dialogues," she added.

The movie on women empowerment is directed by Soumik Sen.

Juhi has enjoyed the experience of filming "Gulaab Gang" and says Madhuri has turned out to be her "best co-star".

"Madhuri has been my best co-star, that says it all. It was wonderful. Just before we both started shooting, Soumik called both of us to his office and he left the room and it was just both of us.

"Really, we had not interacted with each other earlier, so we got (a chance) to know each other and that exercise helped us a lot," she said.

Madhuri also conceded: "We enjoyed working with each other. Unless you don't have warmth for each other, you can't work together. I enjoyed working with Juhi and it's great finally we worked together."

The movie, slated to release March 7, talks about pink sari-clad women activists who protest against the social injustice against women in the Bundelkhand region of central India.

Easy to play Akbar: Rajat Tokas

$

Small screen actor Rajat Tokas, who plays the male lead in "Jodha Akbar", says he is soft spoken in real life but did not face any problem playing the "authoritative" character.

"Akbar was very authoritative and bold and in reality, I am very soft spoken. But Akbar had the help of his ministers and even I get that help during the shoot when I am playing Akbar's charater and that makes it easy for me to play the character," Rajat told reporters at the launch of "Jodha Akbar" e-book and mobile game at Karjat.

The 22-year was asked what attracts him to the role of the Mughal emperor.

To that, he said: "Akbar was well aware of anything and everything. He had everything - money, fame and power.

"The best part about him was that he knew how to use the power. He believed in planning and always made plans in advance. I like that about him."

Rajat launched the "Jodha Akbar" mobile game, while Paridhi Sharma, seen as Jodha, launched the show's e-book at an event here.

Unfortunately, Rajat has not tried his hands at the game as yet and won't be able to play it anytime soon either.

"I haven't played the game yet and I have an iPhone so I won't be able to play it since iOS doesn't have the mobile game. But I will try to play on my friends' Android phones. Once it's available on iOS, I will download it," he said.

Usually actors are dressed as their characters at press conferences, but Rajat made an exception due to an injury that he suffered a few days ago.

"I got an injury on my foot. I got it treated, but I was still facing a lot of problems. I couldn't wear my jooti because it was made of leather and it hurted me.

"I had to go to Delhi to get it treated properly. It's not healed properly, and that's why I chose to wear cushioned sandals," Rajat said.

Krishnam Raju plans to direct nephew Prabhas

Veteran actor Krishnam Raju, known for films such as "Bullet" and "Prema Tarangalu", hopes to revive his long-delayed Telugu project "Okka Adugu" this year with his nephew Prabhas Varma, a popular actor in the industry.

"Prabhas and I will come together for this film. The script is finalised and I have also found a producer. We plan to take the film on floors this year and I might direct it as well if I don't find someone who shares my sensibilities about the film," Krishnam told IANS.

Prabhas is currently shooting for S.S. Rajamouli's Telugu magnum opus "Baahubali" with Rana Daggubati and Anushka Shetty.

"I'm aware that Prabhas is extremely busy with 'Baahubali'. But I'm sure he will take out time to work with me on this project. He's always been asking about working together and here's an opportunity finally," he added.

"Okka Adugu", about corruption, will be produced by Gopi Krishna Pictures.

"Okka Adugu" is a popular dialogue from Prabhas-starrer Telugu action-drama "Chatrapathi", but Raju said the title is not inspired by it.

"The title in my film refers to the step you take against corruption. It literally translates to 'one step'. I think that's that step that makes anyone a leader. It's not inspired by any of Prabhas's film dialogues," he said.

Harshvardhan Rane goes 'missing' for 'Anamika'

If you happen to wait at a traffic signal in Hyderabad and see a "missing" poster featuring actor Harshvardhan Rane, don't be shocked because it's just a promo for upcoming Telugu thriller "Anamika", the remake of Vidya Balan-starrer "Kahaani".

Rane, who was initially shocked to find the posters, says he doesn't mind doing anything for his films.

"Nobody from the film's unit informed me about these posters. I was shocked to find them on the roads, at traffic signals and all over Hyderabad. But then I don't mind doing anything to promote my film. It has created a lot of curiosity among the audience," Harsha told IANS.

Nayanthara is reprising the role of Vidya in "Anamika", which will feature Rane in the role of a husband gone missing.

"Friends and relatives started calling me to find out if I was fine. The youngsters in the family quickly understood that it was all part of promotional strategy; the elders were not so quick to get it. I'm glad that it has caught the eyes of so many," he added.

For the recent festival of Sankranti, kites were sold with the missing photograph of the actor.

"A lot of my friends told me that they found kites flying with my picture during Sankranti in Hyderabad. I think it was a brilliant idea to promote on kites, especially during the festival," he said.

Asked if he feels Telugu industry lacks the expertise in promotions, he said: "Our films with stars absolutely need not worry about promotions because audiences are automatically drawn to cinemas because of their emotional connect with the stars. However, it's not the same in the case of smaller films."

"In the last two years, smaller films have shown a lot of creativity in the promotional department. Promotions are very important for concept-based films because the concept becomes the creative part in them. I still remember the promotions for Telugu film 'D for Dopidi'. It was fresh and innovative," he added.

In "D for Dopidi", about four unfit robbers, the lead cast, wore masks during the promotional tour of the film.

Directed by Sekhar Kammula, "Anamika" also features Pasupathy and Vaibhav Reddy in important roles.

Newcomer Parichay Sharma, who will soon enter TV show "Aur Pyaar ho Gaya", says he quit his regular corporate job as a human resource (HR) official for his love for acting.

He always wanted to act.

"I want to continue to act for the rest of my life now, since this is what I had always wanted to do. I was in an HR firm, I quit that job and chose this career," Parichay told IANS in an email interaction.

After being involved in theatre for two years, Parichay participated in "Splitsvilla 6". He attributes his break on television to the training which he got from the reality show.

"I have this break today because of my stint with reality TV and that has made me confident enough to face the camera. I have done theatre in Delhi during my college days. I had always wanted to act...it was just that being in Delhi, I never got a chance," he said.

With the aim of doing "all that it takes", Parichay left his family back home in Delhi. He made sure he was in shape to be able to try his luck for fictional content on TV.

"I lost a lot of weight. I was 110 kg (at one point). I have left my family behind (in Delhi) and I came with an intention to give it all that it takes. This gave me a lot of confidence by itself," he said.

It is his passion for the craft that drives him to work non-stop.

"If you have a passion for something, you will work towards it. If my days had 48 hours, I would have liked to work for 40 hours straight," he said.

The 27-year-old is also looking for a break in Bollywood but he wants to be slow and steady.

"I definitely would like to see myself in Bollyood, who wouldn’t...but I’m going to take one step at a time and crawl towards it," he said.

Won't ignore any mistakes on 'DID' now: Feroz Khan

"Dance India Dance 4 (DID)" is nearing its end, and choreographer Feroz Khan, who co-judges the dance reality show, is now in no mood to take any slip-ups by contestants lightly.

Be it costume slip-ups or prop mismanagement - things he would have let go off earlier, will also be looked at with intricacy, he said.

"Now the end of the season is here. We don't let any mistake go by now. Whether it is costume or prop, we make sure to look into every small detail. The performances have to be perfect in everything," Feroz told IANS.

He co-judges the show with fellow choreographers Mudassar Khan and Shruti Merchant.

The team of the dance reality show was present in the capital recently to create a buzz for the upcoming finale Feb 22, as well as thank the viewers for their undying support to the show.

"There is already a buzz for the show. We got to know that we get about 25-30 lakh votes which means that people like the show. We were here (Delhi) to thank everyone," he said.

Feroz's own filmography includes choreographing Bollywood numbers like "Maa da laadla" from "Dostana" and "Move your body" from "Johnny Gaddaar". He has also worked as an assistant to ace choreographer Farah Khan.

He admits that Bollywood projects have taken a backseat for him while "Dance India Dance" is on. But he said that his clients understand it.

"I had initially thought that I will take out time. But once I realised how much time this (DID) takes , I knew that I will not have the time to look into anything else. I did have some projects which I have kept on hold...everyone understands you once you form a good rapport with them," he said.

To add to the list of his achievements, the choreographer was also recently featured in the latest commercial by Apple for iPad Air. The company wanted to feature real people who use their iPad on a regular basis and were impressed with Feroz, who does most of his work on his iPad.

"For their commercial, I directed and choreographed a portion in Agra with 40 more dancers. The Apple team was present there and were fascinated with the way I work. Later, they called me from America and even interviewed me," he said.
