Gul Panag undertakes 'incredible' expedition

Gul Panag's love for adventure and passion for travelling makes her plan each of her trips differently. The former beauty queen has recently returned from a challenging expedition, and she says it was "incredible".

She was accompanied on the trip by her husband Rishi Attari and some other friends.

"We recently undertook a road trip to Lahaul valley (Himachal Pradesh). We camped for five nights in the middle of nowhere. There were six of us in three vehicles. It was incredible," Gul told IANS in an email interaction.

The actress found that no car was suitable enough for her kind of adventure expeditions. A few months back, she decided to customise her Mahindra Scorpio and turned it into the perfect adventure getaway.

"Being a serial adventurer and having undertaken many expeditions and road trips, I found that no vehicle met all my requirements. So I decided to build and customise one," she said.

Gul, who loves her pets, renamed this all new car Super Milo, in memory of a dog she lost on a road trip last year.

The actress said that she added everything she wanted to the SUV. This ranged from a roof top tent, an electric winch, a high lift jack, additional lighting, dual battery management system to raising the suspension and more!

This of course was not easy and it cost her and her husband a substantial amount of money as well as time.

"Given that we had to import most of the parts, the entire customisation process took about six months. As for the cost, the customisation was roughly half the cost of the car," she said.

Apart from being a fitness enthusiast, Gul has been a part of many social programmes. She is associated with Pinkathon, which is a run for breast cancer awareness, and she also backs anti-tobacco campaigns.

'Miss Lovely' passed with just four cuts by censor

Filmmaker Ashim Ahluwalia's internationally acclaimed "Miss Lovely" is set to release in India with an ‘A’ certificate, but without major changes in the content as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has passed the film with only four cuts.

The Censor Board originally proposed 157 cuts which have been revised over the course of one year.

"Earlier, the Censor Board objected to the foul language and sexual content in the movie. But they have been mature, fair, and kind enough to reduce it to just four blurred scenes having realised that none of the provocative content is gratuitous. There is enough steam in the gritty film to stay true to its subject and attract audiences," a source said in a statement.

Ahluwalia is happy with the development and applauds the Censor Board. "When I made 'Miss Lovely' I never expected a release in India. Most of all I didn't believe that the Censor Board would allow a film with so much adult content through. I'm happy to have been eventually proved wrong."

"The way the Board treated the film, allowing me to give them my point of view and accepting those arguments - has been amazing and very different from the Censor Board that I had imagined," he said.

"With very few changes to the adult content, they have given the film a lot of respect. I hope that this direction continues and that we will see more different adult-themed films in our cinemas," he added.

Set in the sleazy C-grade film industry in the 1980s' Mumbai, "Miss Lovely" features Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Niharika Singh, among others. It is slated for Jan 17 release.

Filmmaker Karan Johar, 41, who has been in the favour of adoption, says it is natural to have parental feeling at his age.

The "India's Got Talent" judge got emotional on the sets of the reality show when he saw a troupe of children performing an act. Karan later hugged a 7-year-old child from the troupe and said he wants to adopt him.

"I don't have a child and at an age where I should be a parent so, obviously there are some parental instincts that creep into my psyche. I love children. Sometimes, you do strike a chord when you see any child - their vulnerability, their passion, talent, sincerity and sometimes just the smile," Karan told IANS.

"That can touch us and strike a chord as a human being. Parental feeling is very natural for me at this age whether I will act on it, only the future will decide," he added.

The son of late producer Yash Johar says his company Dharma Productions is his baby.

"I am building my company. My big baby is my company and I am seeing my company, which is my child first, evolve and grow and when my company graduates, then perhaps I will think about it," said the "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai" director, who has no plans of getting hitched.

Superstar Mahesh Babu-starrer Telugu action-thriller "1: Nenokkadine", which released Friday minted only Rs.8.4 crore on its opening day in Andhra Pradesh, failing to register a record opening.

It was reportedly made on a budget of Rs.70 crore and released in 1,400 screens across the state.

"Everybody was under the assumption that the film will easily break the record opening set of 'Attarintiki Daaredhi'. But it managed to collect only Rs.8.4 crore on the first day in the state. The film has opened to mixed reviews and that's not a good sign," trade analyst Trinath told IANS.

Directed by Sukumar, "1: Nenokkadine" is a psychological thriller about the hero's mission to avenge the death of his parents.

The film's long running time was one of the biggest drawbacks, said Trinath.

"It's a three-hour long film and to expect audience to sit through it is impossible nowadays. The attention span of audience is about two and a half hours. Moreover, the genre of the film and its presentation was also not received so well," he added.

The film also features debutant Kriti Shanon, Nassar, Anu Haasan, Sayaji Shinde, Pradeep Rawat and Posani Krishna Murali.
