Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, known for roles in films "Kahaani", "Talaash" and "Gangs of Wasseypur, says he wants his fee to be increased now.

"I want to hike my price because that should happen with each actor. It's just a wish which is unfulfilled. So far I don't know when this will happen. But I am certain things will change for me," said Nawazuddin.

After facing many obstacles, the 39-year-old feels happy that he is being approached for lead roles.

"I had lot of hurdles in my journey. People used to feel that with the kind of looks I have, I can't pull off a lead role. So, it took too long to remove that tag. Now, the kind of roles that I am getting, I am playing lead in all of them. I am thankful to the industry for accepting me," he said.

He says the most difficult job is to choose the right script.

"There are lots of things to be considered before signing a film. Even people try to offer you lot of money to be part of their film but if you are after money then your career will come to an end within two years. It's my duty to sign good films for which I am known for," he said.

Nawazuddin is currently busy promoting his film "Miss Lovely", which is slated for Jan 18 release.

Easier to handle triplets than stars : Filmmaker Farah Khan

$

She managed the rare feat of bringing a caravan of 31 cinestars together for a song in "Om Shanti Om" in 2007. Now for her new film "Happy New Year", Farah Khan has been busy handling a cast of six, including top-rated actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and Deepika Padukone, and the multi-faceted filmmaker says her triplets are easier to handle.

"Happy New Year", slated to create Diwali 'dhoom' and 'dhamaal' in October, also stars Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah.

How does she manage to handle such a cast?

"Let me tell you, it's much easier to handle triplets and less tiring too," the effervescent Farah, a mother to two daughters and a son, told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

But she was quick to add: "It's six people here (in 'Happy New Year') and the onus is on me to make sure that each one gets their due presence. Each person is important in the script - it's not that only Shah Rukh is important. Each one has a character and a proper role to play and I have to make sure that each character stands out."

What makes Farah happiest about being on the set of "Happy New Year" is the oneness of her eclectic cast.

"I always feel your movie will be as strong as your weakest link. So if I ignore somebody, that's not going to be good for the movie. Even Shah Rukh knows that and he always keeps telling me to concentrate on Vivaan or make sure Sonu's character is coming out well because each character is important," she said of the musical heist, which will have strong elements of a formulaic heist movie and dollops of dance and music.

"In 95 percent of the movie, six of them are always together. So just in terms of logistics, it's a nightmare because someone wants to come late or leave early. But the chemistry between all of them is so great even off screen, and that is translating very well on screen," added the choreographer-turned-filmmaker.

Even the recently launched first poster of the movie features all the six characters.

Yes, Shah Rukh is in the centre of the poster, but he's not snatching away the limelight from anyone.

"Nobody has an ego problem, nobody wants to stand in the middle, nobody says you've eaten my line or 'I want to say that line'. Everyone is helping each other out during a scene and that is translating well on screen because if the chemistry doesn't happen, then the movie won't work as they are one team in the film," said the 48-year-old, who made her directorial debut with 2004 movie "Main Hoon Na", starring SRK.

This is her third film with King Khan after "Om Shanti Om", which was Deepika's launchpad. In 2010 Farah had directed her third film "Tees Maar Khan" starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif.

After four years, the audiences will get to see her fourth project.

There's been a difference of almost three years between each of Farah's projects. Any reason?

"I always say that I'm a filmmaker, not a factory. I don't have to churn out films every six months. After 'Main Hoon Na', I got married; so I took some time off. After 'Om Shanti Om', I had three kids, and then after 'Tees Maar Khan', I wanted to go back to basics and spend some time writing my own script," she said.

Although there is a certain gap between her films, Farah says that if she stumbles upon an interesting story, she may not wait for a particular time to bring it on the screen.

"So it's just a co-incidence. Tomorrow, if I find something exciting and it falls into place, I'll take it up. It's not something I have deliberately done, but I like it. I don't want to go on churning out films," she said.

The director also points out that making a good film takes time.

"It takes two years to make a good film," said Farah, who keeps herself busy with reality shows and choreography assignments when she's not donning the director's hat.

Actors Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra will co-host the 59th Filmfare awards, and the 'desi' girl says she is nervous.

"Filmfare awards is an experience in itself. This is the first time that I will be co-hosting the awards, I am very nervous," the 31-year-old said here Monday at a press conference for the forthcoming event.

As part of their anchoring, the two actors will present the future of Indian cinema in a fun way at the awards ceremony.

"I have not done it much, but Ranbir and I have been working very hard to make sure it will be lot of fun to show you the future of what we think cinema should be, which will obviously be a little mad and lots of fun. So, it's going to be a really exciting time," Priyanka said.

This is Priyanka's first stint at hosting the prestigious awards and she is feeling the pressure considering the standard set by other actors in previous editions.

"Very few girls have hosted the awards. But yes, there is a huge pressure because Filmfare as an event has always been entertaining, funny and there has been a standard set by a lot of people, including Ranbir himself," Priyanka said.

"Whether it is Shah Rukh (Khan), Saif (Ali Khan), Ranbir, Imran (Khan)... so many people who have hosted the show, they have always set the standard. So, it is scary and exciting," she added.

The 59th edition of the Filmfare awards will be held Jan 24 at Yash Raj Films studio.

The condition of iconic Bengali actress Suchitra Sen, who was put on non-invasive ventilator support after her condition deteriorated, still requires constant vigilance due to the fluctuating oxygen saturation, a medical bulletin said Tuesday, adding that she is not yet out of danger.

"Because of continuous monitoring of her vital parameters, which might need active emergency intervention, she will continue to be observed in Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU) setting," the bulletin said.

She was put on the ventilator Jan 3.

Ruling out any immediate discharge from the hospital, Subir Mondal, a member of the team of seven experts monitoring Sen at the Belle Vue Clinic here, said her oxygen saturation level has gone up since the last few days.

"She is not out of danger yet...her oxygen saturation is not fluctuating much at the moment. We have no plans of discharging her as she is not that stable," Mondal told IANS.

Her vital parameters like heart rate and blood pressure are stable.

According to the experts, her respiratory tract infection is under control, though it still remains detrimental to her health.

The 82-year-old actress was undergoing treatment for a chest infection at the nursing home since Dec 23 and was taken to the ITU after her condition worsened Dec 28 night.

Known as the Greta Garbo of Bengali cinema, Sen is known for her performances in films "Deep Jwele Jaai" and "Uttar Falguni" in Bengali as well as Hindi movies "Devdas", "Bombai Ka Babu", "Mamta" and "Aandhi".

The screen goddess' work was appreciated offshore too - she won the best actress award for "Saat Paake Bandha" at the Moscow Film Festival in 1963.

The mother of actress Moon Moon Sen, Suchitra quit acting in 1978. Since her retirement, she has become the most talked about hermit of Kolkata as she stopped meeting people except for her daughter Moon Moon Sen, grand-daughters Raima and Riya and reportedly some spiritual gurus.

However, in a rare exception, Suchitra on Sunday allowed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to meet her at the nursing home.

Kangana was first and last choice for 'Queen': Vikas Bahl

Filmmaker Vikas Bahl, who has roped in Kangana Ranaut to play the protagonist in his film "Queen", says he didn't consider any other actress to play a married girl who goes on a honeymoon without her spouse.

Bahl said: "I always wanted Kangana for the film. Kangana was the first and last choice for 'Queen' because Kangana is a very bright girl and she has added value to her role."

Known for her psychotic roles in "Woh Lamhe" and "Fashion", Kangana plays a typical Punjabi girl in the film and Bahl is confident that she will look convincing on the screen. Rajkumar Rao plays the male lead in the film.

"Kangana is apt for the role. If she plays an alcoholic woman, we feel she is alcoholic in real life. If she plays a psychotic role, we feel this is how she is in real life, and this is her beauty. Whatever she does on the screen, it looks very real and I wanted someone like that."

Kangana's last release was "Rajjo" and in the film she played the title role, but the film flopped.

This Friday it'll be Madhuri all the way

$

After a gap of seven years, Bollywood diva Madhuri Dixit is back to woo moviegoers with "Dedh Ishqiya". Coming out Friday, the film, not a regular masala film, has loads of entertaining elements, including the actress' never-seen-before avatar. The weekend also has another love story, "Yaariyan", hitting the screens.

Even though the film is a sequel to 2010 "Ishqiya", it is apparently different in its treatment and subject.

Although director Abhishek Chaubey dropped Vidya Balan, seen in the original, he has retained Arshad Warsi and Naseeruddin for the part two. Huma Qureshi joins them in the cast.

Naseeruddin and Arshad will reprise their roles of Khalujaan and Babban respectively from the original.

Made on a budget of approximately Rs.15 crore, the women-centric hinterland drama has been jointly produced by Raman Maroo of Shemaroo Entertainment and Vishal Bharadwaj, who has also co-scripted the film.

For those looking for teenage, candyfloss romance, debutante director Divya Khosla's "Yaariyan" may satiate their appetite.

"Yaariyan" features Miss India 2011 Rakul Preet Singh, TV show "Humse Hai Life" actor Himansh Kohli, Miss Earth 2010 Nicole Faria and Serah Singh. Produced by T-Series, the music for the film has been composed by Pritam, Mithoon, Yo Yo Honey Singh, Arko Pravo Mukherjee and Anupam Amod.

Khosla, who is married to producer Bhushan Kumar, has also choreographed five songs for the college-based romantic drama. The songs are "Baarish", "Meri maa", "Love me thoda aur", "Allah waariyan" and "Zor lagake haishaa".

The film fraternity has supported "Yaariyan" in different forms.

For instance, "Yaariyan" title was registered with Saif Ali Khan's company but he gave it to Kumar for free. Another well-known filmmaker, Mahesh Bhatt, launched the trailer of the film.

The film was earlier expected to release Jan 31, but Kumar decided to advanced this after an encouraging response to the film's first song "ABCD", which got one million views on video-sharing website YouTube within just two days of its release.

While "Dedh Ishqiya" is known for its star cast, "Yaariyan" has been in the news for its music.

"Both the films are equal. 'Dedh Ishqiya' has Madhuri, but the music of 'Yaariyan' has been appreciated. Both the films will manage well," Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines told IANS.

Even "Yaariyan" is a Rs.15 crore film.

While both the films have had minimal promotions, each will hit approximately 1,200-1,500 screens.

Salman Khan accident trial deferred to Jan 21

A Mumbai court Tuesday postponed till Jan 21 the hearing in the 2002 accident case involving Bollywood actor Salman Khan after the prosecution sought time to appeal against the retrial order in the Bombay High Court.

Public prosecutor J.V. Kendralkar informed Sessions Court Judge D.W. Deshpande that the prosecution was awaiting the state government's response in the matter and accordingly sought time.

Salman Khan's lawyer Shrikant Shivade opposed the prosecution plea and urged the fresh trial to commence immediately.

He also pleaded to the court to grant a short date to the prosecution for adjourning the case.

Judge Deshpande posted the matter for Jan 21 and directed the prosecution to get instructions from the government on the issue of appeal before the high court.

On Dec 5, the sessions court had ordered commencement of a fresh trial in the case.

The grounds for the fresh trial was that Salman Khan was not given opportunity to examine witnesses in the context of the enhanced charges of culpable homicide under Indian Penal Code Section 304(2) slapped on him midway during the trial.

Earlier, the actor was tried by a magistrate court for the lesser offence of causing death by negligence which attracts jail of up to two years.

After examining 17 witesses, the magistrate court held that the higher charge of culpable homicide was made out against Salman Khan and referred it to the sessions court.

The high-profile case dates back to Sep 28, 2002 when a SUV Toyota Land Cruiser allegedly driven by Salman Khan ran over some pavement dwellers in Bandra west, killing one and injuring four.

Bollywood actresses Madhuri Dixit and Huma Qureshi Tuesday launched multi-brand store Aza's latest collection of "contemporary classic" amidst fan frenzy and chants of 'Madhuri, Madhuri' and 'Huma, Huma'.

When Madhuri is coming, roadblocks and traffic jams are inevitable. The huge crowd of eager fans assembled outside the store in South Extension market here to get a glimpse of their favourite idol, who was invited by Alka Nishar, the name behind the designer store, to launch the line.

The excitement was so high that people started shouting 'Madhuri, Madhuri' and 'Huma, Huma'.

In a peacock shade anarkali suit, Madhuri looked as glamorous as ever, while Huma oozed sensuality in sheer black blouse and red sari draped differently.

Both personified the theme of the collection, an ode to timeless Indian wear.

"Madhuri's look and character in 'Dedh Ishqiya' is more about ethic Indian and traditional clothing. I think Indian women today look for clothes that have some old world charm attached to it and this is what our collection is. It has traditional motifs used beautifully in modern designs," Nishar told IANS.

The collection pays homage to traditional Indian wear that transcends time and geographies.

Some of the designs that define the collection are anarkalis and lehengas; jhoomkas and jadau jewellry sets; and clutches and vintage jootis.

The price range of the collection starts at Rs.25,000 and goes up to lakhs.

'Jal' to release March 21

Girish Malik's "Jal", which has been shot across the picturesque Rann of Kutch, will set sail for its theatrical journey in the country March 21.

OneWorld Films Tuesday announced that they have aligned with DAR Film Distributors for the India distribution of the internationally acclaimed Hindi feature film.

For Malik, it was important to choose the right distributor for the project, which he calls a "content driven entertainer".

"The film is called 'Jal', but the plot is about human interaction in all its honesty, albeit told in a very commercially entertaining way laced with rib-tickling good humour.

"It was thus imperative that our distribution partners needed to be a specialist and not just any film distributor. It's with that understanding that we collaborated with DAR. Their modus operandi is suited for the masses and the classes as seen with their last couple of releases," Malik said in a statement.

It is the story of a Bakka, a person gifted with a special ability to find water in the desert. It stars Purab Kohli, Kirti Kulhari, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Saidah Jules, Mukul Dev, Yashpal Sharma and Ravi Gossain.

"Jal" recently competed at the Busan International Film Festival, and it was also a part of the Indian Panorama section at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.

With the backdrop of water scarcity, the film tells a complex and intriguing story of love, relationships, enmity, deceit and circumstances that bring about the dark side of human character.

Murli Chhatwani, head (Distribution and Syndication), DAR Film Distributors, said: "Judging by the applause that 'Jal' has received both in the international circuit as well as amongst the diverse Indian audience at the IFFI screenings, along with the way Kutch has been captured in the film, we are very positive about its success."
