Director Abhishek Chaubey, who has teamed up with producer Vishal Bhardwaj for "Dedh Ishqiya" post the success of 2010 movie "Ishqiya", says creative differences never marred their working relationship. In fact, they only share creative opinions.

"He is such a great person. I have worked with him before and I share a great rapport with him. He never interferes at all," Chaubey told IANS.

"In fact, he came to the set only once while we were shooting. There are only creative opinions and no creative differences with him. He has a lot of faith in me, he is a great producer," he added.

Chaubey says "Dedh Ishqiya" was shot in the dirtiest locations, and he is thankful to the film's cast - Madhuri Dixit, Huma Qureshi, Naseeruddin Shah, Arshad Warsi and others for not cribbing.

"When they were shooting in Lucknow, the location - Mahmudabad Palace - was two hours away from the hotel and the road was very bad, but still everyone used to come with the same energy on the sets everyday.

"Even the location in Baap (Rajasthan) was far from the hotel, but none of the actors ever complained," he added.

"Dedh Ishqiya" is scheduled to release Jan 31, 2014.

Veteran actress Dimple Kapadia, who is eagerly awaiting the release of "What The Fish", is said to be hosting a private screening of the forthcoming comedy movie for her family as well as her long-time friend and first co-star Rishi Kapoor.

The 56-year-old actress made her Bollywood debut with Rishi in "Bobby" (1973) and he is said to be one of those people she looks up to for an opinion.

"Dimpleji is very keen on 'What The Fish' and is slightly nervous too. She has always shared a great rapport with Rishiji. So she wanted him to be one of the first people to see the movie along with her family," a source close to the film, told IANS.

Releasing Dec 13, "What The Fish", directed by Gurmmeet Singh, features Dimple in a lead role.

"Also, Aarav (her grandson) has never seen any of her movies, but she will make sure he watches this one," the source added.

Aarav is the son of Dimple's daughter Tina aka Twinkle, who is married to Bollywood star Akshay Kumar. Dimple, who was married to late superstar Rajesh Khanna, has another daughter Rinke.

Second shot at Bollywood, with new look, fresh scripts

$

Bollywood boys like Luv Sinha and Harman Baweja, whose past films bit the dust at the box office, are up and about to try their luck at the big screen once again. They sport a new look, have beefed up and have films with fresh scripts.

Luv's debut film "Sadiyaan: Boundaries Divide... Love Unites" was released in 2010. Expectations from him were high as he is veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha's son, but neither the audiences nor the critics were too impressed.

The young actor is nevertheless giving his all to his comeback - one, a film by Umesh Shukla and another by Ekta Kapoor. He looks in better shape, and is raring to go.

"When Luv did 'Sadiyaan', he wasn't so prepared and that's why he took a three-year break. Now Umesh Shukla's yet-untitled political thriller will be like an official relaunch for him and he has worked very hard for his look," a source close to Luv told IANS.

"He has also involved himself deeper into the project, and provided creative inputs as well. He has made a conscious effort to take the right films on, and 2014 looks exciting for him," said the source.

A case of once bitten, twice shy, is it?

The case looks similar to Harman's story. Following duds like "What's Your Raashee?", "Victory" and "Love Story 2050", he seems to be resurrecting his acting career with Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty's debut home production "Dishkiyaaoon".

The action thriller also stars a heavyweight like Sunny Deol, but the spotlight seems to be on Harman if one goes by the film's first teaser poster, which partly shows the younger actor but gives a sneak-peek to his newly-built perfect set of abs.

Sources close to the movie are tight-lipped about the project, but one is hoping the movie will give him a new lease of life in Bollywood.

Film historian S.M.M. Ausaja says: "It's very tough to mark a successful second innings after a failed first one, but actors have to be realistic, less narcissistic and should know their own value to be able to reinvent".

"For actors who don't see success in the first phase, it's important they accept where they fail and attempt a completely new avatar on-screen, something that does justice to their talent within an interesting script," Ausaja told IANS.

That's what our young boys seem to be doing. Whether they get it right or not is something one has to wait and watch.

There are also names like Adhyayan Suman, Ruslaan Mumtaz and Sachiin Joshi that can be counted in the list of male actors attempting a second innings in tinsel town.

Adhyayan, who still made a mark with his second film "Raaz: The Mystery Continues", is geared to be seen in his father Shekhar Suman's directorial debut "Heartless".

Adhyayan has prepared for his role in the medical thriller for two years.

"He looks a lot different in 'Heartless'. In fact, a lot of people have asked me, 'Why wasn't this his first film?' But I believe everything happens when the time is right for it," Shekhar, a veteran actor himself, told IANS.

Sharing a valuable advice for all young actors, Shekhar also said: "You need to keep your nerves intact in this industry; you can't be negative. Everytime you fall, you have to rise and move again."

That's what even Sachiin, who has earlier featured in films like "Aazaan" and "Mumbai Mirror", has been doing. In dire need of a jackpot at the box office, the actor is well, at least trying for it with Kaizad Gustad's forthcoming film "Jackpot".

His director has high hopes from the film.

"I hope this film does well for Sachiin. I can't comment on whether it will turn out to be his best film or not, but, yes, there is some positive buzz about the film and the audience will decide its fate. As far as Sachiin is concerned, he is a very natural actor and he is open to criticism," Gustad told IANS.

There's also the now small screen loverboy Ruslaan Mumtaz.

After featuring in titles like "MP3: Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar", "Teree Sang: A Kidult Love Story" and "I Don't Luv U", Ruslaan took the plunge into the world of TV with "Kehta Hai Dil...Jee Le Zara".

The show has worked well for Ruslaan, who has recently signed a comedy film, "Romeo Idiot Jathani Juliet". Who knows it may mark a new beginning for him in the film world?

Actor Rajpal Yadav sent to 10 days judicial custody

The Delhi High Court Tuesday remanded Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav to 10 days judicial custody for concealing facts about a Rs.5 crore recovery suit filed against him and his wife by a Delhi-based entrepreneur.

Justice S. Murlidhar also asked Yadav's wife to remain present in the Registrar General's office till the rising of the court.

The judge also issued a contempt of court notice against two women lawyers representing the couple and an oath commissioner, as they submitted an affidavit in the court Monday with forged signature of the couple.

The court was irked by the conduct of the couple and counsel for repeatedly concealing the fact Dec 2 from the court, saying that Yadav's wife Radha was in Ghaziabad and would reach court.

The couple had to present themselves before the court Monday. Rajpal Yadav was there for some time. Radha was in Mumbai but their counsel told the court that she was in Ghaziabad.

The court posted the matter for Tuesday, asking both of them to remain present. The couple were present Tuesday in the court from where Yadav was taken to the jail and his wife was sent to the Registrar General's office.

The court said it took lenient view for his wife, as she had a small child with her.

"As far as defendant no. 3 (Radha) is concerned, court takes lenient view as she has a child with her. She will be in the room of the Registrar General till the closing hour of the court," Justice Murlidhar said.

Sending Yadav to 10 days judicial custody, the court said: "The court sentenced 10 days simple imprisonment to Rajpal Yadav and direct the police to take him into the custody."

The court also ordered attachment of assets of the couple, and attached his bank account of the Axis Bank and a company owned by him.

Yadav and Radha are facing legal trouble after a Delhi-based entrepreneur, M.G. Agarwal (owner of Murli Projects), filed a case against them in the high court for failing to repay a loan of Rs.5 crore, which the actor took in 2010 to make his Hindi debut directional film "Ata Pata Laapata".

Imran Khan: 'Dhoom 3' to create Rs.300 crore club

Imran Khan feels that his uncle and superstar Aamir Khan-starrer "Dhoom 3" has the potential to set a new box office record.

Directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, "Dhoom 3" is set for a Dec 20 release and expectations are high from the new offering by Yash Raj Films, especially because the first two instalments were blockbusters.

"I think, there will be some new club. Rs.200 crore club has already been made, and for this film there will be a Rs.300-Rs.400 crore club," the 30-year-old told reporters Monday at a Bru coffee contest event here.

The actor, who himself performed some daredevil acts in "Luck" and even burnt his eyelashes and skin while doing action sequences in the 2009 release, says "Dhoom 3" stunts are by far the best.

"I am very impressed with the action sequences. As a guy I like action films, but till today I have not seen any Indian film with such amazing standards of action scenes. I was very impressed," said the actor.

In "Dhoom" and "Dhoom 2", the action was sleek and notches above contemporary releases.

The "Dhoom 3" cast dazzles with names like Katrina Kaif, Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra.

Unfair to blame lead pair for film's failure: Imran Khan

Imran Khan teamed for the second time with Kareena Kapoor for "Gori Tere Pyaar Mein", which failed to entice the box office. The actor says instead of blaming just the lead pair, everyone should analyse where the problem lay.

There were reports that it didn't work because Kareena-Imran 'jodi', earlier seen in "Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu", didn't go down well with the viewers.

"Definitely it was not upto our expectations. You feel sad when a film doesn't work but this is a reality of our industry. If you can't handle it then you are in the wrong business," the 30-year-old told reporters while talking about the film's box office performance.

A Karan Johar-production, "Gori Tere Pyaar Mein" was directed by Punit Malhotra.

"When we did 'Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu', people liked the pairing. I think if a film fails everyone has to think about it - be it the writer or director. Everyone needs to analyse the problem area," he said.

"It's not fair to put the blame on only one thing - pairing. It is very wrong to even say that marriage affects a heroine. If a film has failed, then there was some problem with the film," he added.

Meanwhile, Imran will start shooting for this next film "Bhavesh Joshi" early next year.

Rajani said: "The film will see a new cast, but I feel Paresh Rawal will be part of it."

Actor Arya's upcoming Tamil action-thriller "Meagaamann", which is slated to go on the floors Thursday, will not compromise on logic and realism, said its director Magizh Thirumeni, who promises to make the outing a cut above other films in the language.

"It will be a commercial entertainer, but I can promise that it won't lack logic and remain as realistic as possible. The only way I can differentiate my film from others is with the treatment. Although it's an entertainer laced with a thriller angle, it won't be in-your-face," Thirumeni told IANS.

The hunt for the film's leading lady is still on.

Meanwhile, Arya, who is basking in the success of two back-to-back hits "Raja Rani" and "Arrambam", will soon start working on an untitled Tamil comedy with filmmaker Rajesh M.

Happy to play my age in 'Doli Armaano Ki': Neha Marda

TV actress Neha Marda, who rose to fame as Gehna in popular daily soap "Balika Vadhu", returns as small town girl Urmi with "Doli Armaano Ki". She is happy to get into a character she can identify with.

In "Balika Vadhu" too, her character was of a teenage girl, but matured and different as she played someone who is forced to marry a middle-aged man.

But "Doli Armaano Ki" is about Urmi, a young girl who enters the institution of marriage with hope and dreams in her eyes.

It features newcomer Mohit Malik opposite Neha.

"It is very different from what I did before. Urmi's character is nineteen years old. I am glad to play something (closer) to my age," Neha said here Monday at the launch of the show.

The actress, however, admits her character was stronger in "Balika Vadhu".

"In 'Balika Vadhu', the character was very mature but I was playing not even an adult. I was playing a 13-year-old girl who turns 18 after a leap of five years. But the character was so matured that it looked like she must be 30 or 35 year old," she said.

"But the character was very strong and I got a lot of name and fame because of it. I am very happy," she said and added that she quit "Balika Vadhu" because she was not keen to play such a mature character.

Set in Jhansi, "Doli Armaano Ki" went on air Dec 2 on Zee TV.

Make-up tips for New Year party

$

Look like a diva when you hit the dance floor on New Year’s eve. Take charge by getting your hands on eyeliner, eye shadow, blush and other make-up tools.

Navyata Malkani from FOMO - Fashion on my Own by Grazing Goat Digital - shares make-up tricks to do it yourself:

- Apply face primer all over your face to set the base.
- Use a concealer to hide blemishes.
- Take an eye primer, apply it all over your eyelid to prevent it from creasing.
- Follow it up with a black eyeliner pencil, by lining your upper water line. This will make your lashes look voluminous.
- With the same eyeliner pencil, apply a little on your upper lash line. Then with an angled brush, extend it to make a flick.
- Apply a light gold eye shadow on your eyelids.
- Then use a white eye shadow to highlight your brow bone.
- Next is to apply a bronze eye shadow on the outer and inner crease, leaving the centre untouched. Blend it a little to soften the look.
- Then apply dark brown eye shadow on the same areas to add some depth. And then blend again.
- Use black liquid eyeliner over the pencil liner for a bolder look.
- After that take a white liquid eye liner and apply it under the black flick.
- Next use the same black liquid eye liner and apply it under the white flick.
- Then apply brown eye shadow along the lower lash line to give it a more subtle look.
- Take mascara and apply lots of coats.
- And then with some lash glue, stick crystals underneath the wing just for some fun and bling.
- Moving on to the face, touch up everything with a translucent powder.
- Then take a bronzer and apply it to contour your cheeks and highlight your cheek bones.
- Next, apply a peach blush on the apples of your cheeks.
- And finish it with a shade of red on the lips.

I'm sure ghosts exist: Samir Soni

$
0
0

Samir Soni, last seen in Zee TV's schmaltzy "Parichay - Nayee Zindagi Kay Sapno Ka", is back on television as a ghostbuster. He believes that supernatural elements do exist.

In the supernatural thriller "Ringa Ringa Roses", which went on air Life OK channel this week, marks Samir's first foray into fearsomeness.

And he says it's to do with the character rather than the genre.

"This is the most intense multi-layered character I've ever played. To me, the challenge is to convince viewers that this character of a ghostbuster actually exists," said Samir.

The actor, who has also dabbled in big-screen acting with "China Gate" and "Baghban", admits he had never encountered a ghost in real life.

"But stories about the supernatural have been around for centuries in all parts of the world. I am sure ghosts exist, although I haven't encountered any," said the actor.

For someone who has been around on television to see myriad changes, Samir is nonchalant about the changes.

"Change is inevitable in life. As the audience adopts changes of lifestyle and morals, television too must incorporate the changing mores and sensibilities," he said.

"The influence of Western culture on our cinema and television is undeniable. But we Indians love a good story with plenty of drama. Nothing can change that," said the actor who is active on the small screen since "A Mouthful of Sky" days.

Samir feels television is an important medium of social change.

"We are going through a period of tremendous media influence in every walk of life. Television plays a major role in shaping the coming generations," he said.

Unearthly shooting hours on television do not deter Samir from spending time with his baby-daughter Ahana.

"I admit I am not able to spend as much time with her as I'd like to. She's 11 months old. And she has her own schedule. I find it hard to co-ordinate my timings with hers. But it's a delight to wake up to her smiling face."

More than his own joy at parenthood, it is wife and former actress Neelam's happiness that makes Samir happy.

"I've never seen Neelam happier since I've known her. And to me that complete feeling of a happy family means everything. Our daughter is named Ahana. It means the first ray of the sun. And she has indeed brought sunshine into our lives," he said.
